  • Was absolutely superb tonight,

I was at the Glasgow Show 3 years back but tonight was much better. He played tons of old Smiths Stuff.

Does anyone have a setlist of tonight, if so please put online.

Also, Moz says he doesnt know anything about Football, if you are reading Moz, Would you like to become a Morton supporter???

  • Morrissey was absolutely immense tonight. Hand In Glove was definitely the highlight but There Is A Light..., November..., Jack The Ripper, Everyday Is Like Sunday, Suedehead etc etc were all superb.

The new stuff sounds like some of the best stuff he's written for a long time so roll on the recording contract.

There's something seriously wrong when idiots like Gareth Gates and Will Young get £million contracts without a single ounce of talent and the man who influenced the other 99% of todays music sits on the sidelines writing songs they have wet dreams about writing.

  • This is for one person in particular. I don't know the name, but if it's you, please contact me...I'll post a review-type thing on my view of the concert in my journal, not waste the space on here.

I'm really wanting to contact this girl that was at the concert...OK, you're not going to want to contact me I don't think, but hey. Could it be you? Could you have been with JacquesTheLad for the whole night?

It was down the bottom left of the stage, probably second row. You said to me "thanks for the use of your shoulders" at the end of the gig, as you kinda put your arms around me (I won't tell anyone) as, well, you didn't really have anywhere else to put them. You also patted my head quite a few times to the drumbeat of the songs, which I must say I liked...

Anyway, this is sounding sick and sad, but hey, that's the person I am. I was the wee young guy with the Meat is Murder t-shirt and two mates, and you spoke to me as we were collecting our jackets. I believe you said you were from Airdrie, but I don't even know your name. I think you said your husband had seen The Smiths, at which point my heart sank to new depths...

I know, sad again. Going to a Morrissey concert and falling for a married lady. But you don't understand, you were absolutely gorgeous! Please, if you know this is you, then either post a reply to this (if it hasn't been moderated down to -5 already) or post a comment on my journal.

Thank you so much, and sorry for wasting anyone's time. It was some gig, and I have to say thanks to everyone for making it such a great night. I'll never forget it.

I'm going to post my review of the concert here, and then do a more personal one of it in my journal. Yes, two reviews! Aren't you lucky?

Setlist was pretty much unchanged...I've just started typing it out but then again I've forgotten the order...I saw Boz's setlist (well, the first five lines of it) before the band started their set, and it was unchanged. There wasn't any additional songs nor songs dropped from the previous UK dates.

Morrissey was quite chatty, as has been said on this tour. He took the stage to a flood of beer, and urged the fools not to throw any more. Interesting lyric change:

The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores: "People who take your money work within the law" (or something along those lines).

Sadly, he said after "I Like You" that it wouldn't make an album if things continue as they are just now. He called Sack "five pretty Irish girls"...He mentioned that he and the band were proud to say that they didn't care/knew nothing about football, so they wouldn't say anything about it. He also tried to mimic a Scottish accent, much to the adoration of the crowd.

All-in-all, a great night, even although the merchandise range was disappointing - not the same type of bootleg posters (only one poster available) nor t-shirts available. Apart from that, it was fantastic, in what may be Morrissey's final Glasgow gig...

  • What a great concert. It was absoultely enthralling to hear Smith's classics like Hand in Glove,Meat is Murder and There is a light that never goes out.An excellent concert with excellent material.Although,I don't know quite what sort of an impression the "person" who threw lager onto the stage, drenching Morrissey, was attempting to make.I shook The Great Man's hand and all in all, it was a terrific evening.
Am already looking forward to his next concert.
What sort of person purchases a ticket to see Morrissey and then throws alcohol over him?
That ticket could have been used by a more deserving and appreciative fan.

  • Just back from the gig, and as expected, it was incredible...Morrissey was in good spirits, despite being pelted with beer almost immediately...lots of typically witty between-song chat (on people chanting his name: "Yes, it's a wonderful song, but look where it's been..")
The band where in great form, despite what I'd been led to believe by some posts. They handled the Smiths tracks very well: 'Hand in Glove' was particularly close to the original, sans harmonica. I'm not totally sold on their take on 'There is a Light..', but it didn't really matter if they were playing this or that bit right...it's Morrissey, in front of me, singing one of my favourite tracks ever.
I'm pretty sure we got the same setlist as everyone else has this tour..lots of Viva/Bona stuff. One of the high points of the evening was "Everday is Like Sunday"..I really loved the band's take on this, with Boz on banjo. It turned into a massive singalong, of course. Great fun. Despite Moz's "great acting" comments, the new songs went over very well, particularly 'Irish Blood..', which Moz closed by saying would "never be released if things keep going the way they are". So, still no closer to a record deal. Sad really.
So, yeah...it was great...so for the love of God, Wilde and Johnny Thunders, someone sign him up and send him right back up here for more gigs!

  • Twas bizarre crowd hosting women with quiffs(vile), tall skinheaded ex-coalminers (frightening), 30 something men (smiths fans) and your usual indie types. Strange but rather comforting.

Morrissey was there singing ("And I am singing.") of course, setting the world, or a Glasgow ballroom, on fire. Played a fantastic set, everything from Speedway to Hairdresser on Fire, the former being the highlight (in my opinion). He removed his shirt three times, as you do. Many were noted to gasp. Some even cheered.
Being honest the only gig that has topped that in my life was Sonic Youth. The best thing to have been in Glasgow in years.
5 stars and grins for all.

  • So typical.

Some thicko down the front. What goes on in their empty heads? Do people with this mentality really "get" Morrissey & The Smiths?

Despite this, I was at the gig last night and Morrissey was magnificent. A really good performance and the sound was fantastic. Also, the set played was excellent - from Smiths songs, through solo and up to the minute unreleased songs. All of which sounded superb, particularly The World is full of Crashing Bores and I Like You.

It's been a long time since I heard Everyday Is Like Sunday, Suedehead, Hairdresser or I Want the One I Can't Have live :-)

He's still got that great understanding of the pop song - Crashing Bores and I Like You were excellent.

It's depressing when carboard cut-outs such as Will & Gareth can get a deal and real artists have to struggle. Give Morrissey a deal you short-sighted dimwits!

  • Hi ppl. This was my first Moz gig and WOW!
From the opener of "I want the one i can't Have" my feet barely touched the ground, great atmosphere. Highlight, so many, but gota be "The first Of The Gang To Die". He was toying with the crowd, esecially one guy who kept reching to him only for Moz to pull his and away each time until the poor guy fell right over the barrier, cheeky. Bring on more, and an album

He was sooo close, you could see him and everything, he was just so beautiful, when they played hand in glove i thought i was goona die! It was ridiculously emotional. Speedway was brilliant. The best fucking gig ive been to in ages. why did they get beer on him though? that was awful, it wasnt an oasis gig you know. Oh, god i cried so much at the end my false eyelashes came off. I used to think the hardest job in the world was beeing a support band at a morrissey gig. now i realise its being my not so into morrissey as i am boyfriend looking after tipsy old me at a morrissey gig! please someone give him a record deal!

  • Absolute Genius!! my first Morrissey gig and I can honestly say it was the best gig I've witnessed at the Barras. He was simply outstanding! I really thought he was offski after that pillock through the pint but thank the lord he stayed on for a show that will surely be filed under Legendary.Hairdresser on Fire "Bizzy Scizzez Oo Oo uh uh! To hear it live was something else indeed as was Sister I'm a Poet.i noticed Morrissey bless himself after a song Is he Catholic?I thought the new songs were fantastic and I hope we get to hear them on an album. I like you was followed by his good acting comment which I was a bit miffed at because I certainly wasn't acting It was amazing!Irish Blood was also very good although quite short. This may be controversial but I don't like Meat is Murder the track, but I even enjoyed that last night. All in all it left me elated and also sad at the same time knowing that we may never see him live again(Lets face it he's no Sweet Boy any more!)To all those who toyed with the idea of going to see him but decided not to. You missed a truly outstanding gig! Viva Love!

  • I’ve just arrived back in Dublin from the gig, wow it really was amazing where do I begin.Well, Sack were brilliant they really do make a great noise together and look like they’re having a good laugh on stage. I was up at barrier on the left side of the stage and everyone in that area looked happy etc .When Morrissey came on this fat Johnny Vegas look alike just pushed his way in on top of everyone with a full pint , spilling it everywhere and offering around as well (I Suppose at least he didn’t throw it at Mozz). Then lucky for us his drink ran out and he went to the bar and never came back. Morrissey looked really pissed off at the drink throwing and said feel free to hit anyone who does it. There were quite a few morons there all right. Nobody made it on to the stage the security was way too many. Near the start of the gig Mozz went over to Julia he said “You’re not going to make it through this one” then said to the people nearby “Is she o.k. are you sure”.The songs as ever were brilliant, Hand in Glove sounded really polished I thought. But the new songs are sounding even better every time I hear them. I really don’t believe Mozz can’t get a deal there’s loads of artists way more obscure and inaccessible than him releasing albums every year ! He said something about never getting any awards from”Oh what do you call them Boz” Boz shrugged a few people shouted Mercury but I think Mozz meant the Bpi’s.Well we live in hope of the new album, tour etc but he said something else last night about not wanting a deal.Maybe he’s just going to tour from now on. Was it just me or did Morrissey seem really moved during “Everyday is like Sunday” when everyone was singing along. The band looked really happy at the end with the cheers they got. This was my first time in Barrowlands it’s a great venue with a really wide stage so you get a good view Well it was truly another fantastic gig on this tour I hope he’ll be back in 2003

  • Got to be.

Very impressive performance despite the beer incident (unfortunate but handled with grace), Moz's obvious concern for Julia getting squished down the front and ... the banjo(!?)

    Highlights for me -
Want the one I can't have - what an opener!!
Hairdresser on fire - always a winner
    Sister I'm a Poet - superb
    Hand In Glove - genius

An enjoyable evening was had by all.

  • My second Morrissey gig, but my first to take place during a small Morrissey revival (even the NME seem to want him back, ha ha ha!) and with some newly-converted friends.

Anyways, you all know about the beer incident, so moving right along...

By the second song, 'Suedehead', my friend Gregor had managed to surf his way to the front of the stage, purely for the joy of surfing BUT...Moz was convieniently standing in the right place and offered him his hand, the lucky swine. He also managed to get a shred of his black shirt too, although he did wait for him to throw it into the audience first. Otherwise it would just be rude.

Anyway, I usually find people who sing along to every word whilst attempting eye contact with the singer a bit annoying, but I found myself doing it for most of the night. Best was the "popstars thick as pigshit" line in 'The World Is Crashing Bores' in which Moz smiled at my enthusiam...unless of course I am being deluded and insane. But I swear it!

Thank you Morrissey, for your genius and also for your quiff. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the quiff seemed to be in fine shape indeed.

To think I nearly didn't go. That's the second best Moz gig I've ever been to, after Hertlepool 99. I saw him at Barrowlands the night after that, but it wasn't a patch on last night.

Anyway, I am also seeking someone: the tiny girl from Newcastle with the pink hair and the camera! Those of you who were at the front may have seen her appear in front of you halfway through the gig, because she went forwards to try and get pictures, but prior to this she was standing to the right of the stage.

If you're reading this or know her, I'm the tall blonde girl who was on her own... black glasses, checked skirt, Johnny Bravo t-shirt (one of your 'usual indie types' indeed). I took some photos for her and this girl said she would send me some of them, and I offered to send her a copy of my (now long-out-of-date) fanzine in return... we arranged to meet up after the gig but I never saw her. We didn't even swap names. If anyone could shed any light that would be great, cause she rocked.

My highlights of the show were:
November Spawned a Monster (Gary came forward so they were all in line, it was truly wonderful)
Speedway (the best live version I've ever heard)
    Irish Blood, English Heart
After he introduced the band he said... "Me... I'm the man your mother warned you about. She was right"
And getting a smile off Gary as the band came off stage!

And was that Julia Riley he kept feeling sorry for and speaking to?

Anyway yes... Morrissey, you still rock my world. Eight years and counting.

  • *Hunchback walk onto stage* as usual.
*Beer shower - Morrissey doesn't look pleased*
*Chants of football-esque Morr-iss-seee, very repetitive during each song break, although he himself joined in (very sarcastically) during the 10th song or so.*
*Meat is Murder - how can this be so when he flashes those pubes at us. Nice white pants, although he should put a belt onto his Christmas present list.*
*Too much attention on Julia. He shouldn't ignore the rest of his fans who are dam well bankrupting themselves by supporting this current tour. I'm not a "irregular regular" that he spoke of, but I've done my best on what income I have.*
*Stage invaders - none to speak of. Security did a very good job and foresaw every attempt at ten paces*

Even by Barrowlands standards that was an absolutley brilliant concert. The new songs were wonderful too, especially Irish Blood and the First of the Gang to die. Sheer brilliance, he's a genius all right.

  • I'm looking for the arsehole in the Smiths t-shirt who was about 6 foot 6, fat and sported a shaved head that could not hide the fact the bastard was ginger. He also looked like he hadn't been laid in his life, ever, and had a face that resembled a bull dog licking wee wee from a nettle.

I hope you get cancer of the ballsack you fucking prick.

Hear me out folks! This utter thug was about 5 rows behind us all when the lights came out to welcome Morrissey on stage. I braced myself for a night with the great one (I was at the very front right at his mic with my girlfriend). When Moz was showered with water (it wasn't beer) I felt for him. But then this big thug arsehole started to bully girls. He was literally pushing them over to get to the front and then he began to squeeze behind me, seriously winding a small girl in front (who had to pulled out - hope you're happy prick, you wasted a young girl's night. Very good).

This still wasn't good enough though. He pulled his two arsehole thug mates down front as well, one of whom started bashing my girlfriend in the back to get her to move. Then the big thug guy hit my girlfriend on the head. So I smacked his arm and told him to be careful to which I was told to 'fuck off' and threatened. Then the (useless) security tried to speak to him but they were told to 'fuck off' as well and just left him to it.

My girlfriend was so scared of being stabbed by this arsehole she was pulled out the front, with others, and I followed.

YOU MIGHT BE A BIG FAT UGLY CUNT MATE BUT JUST REMEMBER: YOU ARE ALSO A BIG FAT UGLY BASTARD AND I KNOW THAT WHEN YOU GO BACK HOME TO YOUR HOUSE YOU ARE LIVING IN A STATE OF UTTER HOPELESSNESS BECAUSE NO ONE WILL EVER SO MUCH AS PUT THEIR ARMS AROUND A BIG MISSING LINK KNOB LIKE YOU AND YOU WILL DIE SAD AND LONELY.

Apart from that Morrissey was great. But I think the thugs were Oasis fans who might have been turned onto Morrissey through Liam and Noel's love of The Smiths. I wish Oasis would stop hyping good bands because Ian Brown is a rough act to watch, and now Morrissey gets a few thugs in the audience. A damn shame because most of the fans were there to have fun and sing along and scream - just like myself.

The best bit was being lifted out and getting to shake Morrissey's hand. When I wouldn't let go he even looked at me as I was carried away and went 'Ow'!

    Great man!

  • Up here in the North, there is a strange legend that states that Glaswegians are funnier and friendlier than any other group of people on Earth...like most of these urban legends it is born out of a desire to hide the truth, which is that Glasgow is a very mean city...a rampant knife culture fuelled by alcohol abuse means that youi are more likely to be subject to some of the behaviours described here than anywhere else...certainly in Scotland.

The solution to this is for artists to boycott the Barrowlands until Glaswegians learn tobehave in a civilised fashion...which may well mean a permanent boycott.

Of course it is undeniable that the Barrowlands is a great venue and that for the most part bands love to play there and the punters love it...which only serves to make the sad events of Sunday evening even worse.

Once again a minority spoil the enjoyment of the majority...we should be sweet and tender of course...but hooligans? Never.

  • Wow what a concert highlight in todays paper,Daily Record quotes:Morrissey made a majestic return to the Scottish stage, in front of a hall packed with acolytes
material range from earlier Smiths (Hand in glove)to his latest , as yet unrealesed ,songs And his band with its tight multilayed, complected sound, was superb. Morrissey intruduced The world is full of crash and bores as "my observation on this morden life that we all lead" in its acerbic whit and barbed view point it could have been the verbose rockabilly sound track to a David Lynch hoilday on Blackpool beach.
Morrissey was forth coming, whity and enthused with a passon for his music. The maestro of melancholia has ever writen a love song, I like you, which heartked back to the euthiour of this charming man. It seams inkinsevable that Morrissey is currently without a label. The quiff maybe thinning, The paunch larger , but 2002 has spawned a monumental comeback.

    Morrissey never fails to impress.
