I'm almost sure you can do better than that.
  • The man did outstanding work with Morrissey and the Boys. Plus he is a hell of a nice guy and deserves some credit for helping to put Morrissey back on the airwaves.
Mr. Jones did a great job with the Libertines once again. Hopefully one of these guys will get the nod.

  • although i'm still more partial to FOTG as a single, the nomination of IBEH is good enough!

  • This is insulting Moz should at least be nominated for his live performances or/and the album. They don't have to give him the prize but at least a nomination in these categories is well deserved.

  • After the thrashing they gave YATQ, i think Q have some front nominating Moz at all. They ought to stick to their guns (i.e. if they didn't like the album, at least have the guts to maintain that decision later) and so at least have integrity in their decisions. I think this is hypocrisy. Harris panned the album and Q ran the Jeremy Clarkson comparison. They are hypocrites to turn round months later and do this. Harris belittled 'Irish Blood, English Heart' in his review , though Q nominated 'First Of The Gang' as one of the twenty must hear songs of July. Jerry Finn's production is shiny and polished (too much IMO) but I couldn't say he did an outstanding job, rather he produced Moz in the same way he produces everyone else. Still, at least, as somebody comments, it got Moz back on the airwaves.

  • I think it is interesting to see Moz up for some nods at the Q awards. Having said that, I don't think it matters much. If Morrissey wins, great. If he loses, so what? Don't get me wrong, it is better to be nominated for something than nothing at all. But I don't think it matters. While a Grammy award would be ideal, even those awards are tainted with the likes of 'artists' such as Brittany Spears, N-Sync, and Usher. An MTV award would be cool, just in the way of their presentation. I know it has slacked off as of late, but it would be interesting to see Moz there. My bet would be that he wouldn't show up. I'm not saying this in any way to demean 'Q' or their magazine, I think it is great when any award show tries to acknowledge Moz. Whether he or his producer win, I just don't think it matters either way.

    ...and how?
  • Single has to be either Franz - Take Me Out or Irish Blood, English Heart the others really are awful. As for producer not much choice there either. Finn did a really good effort, The Libertines is a good album but Jones is a pretty average producer, not that fond of Muse though seems pretty well executed but would prefer any of the above to one of Usher's (many) producers, the aptly named Thicke(e).

  • It is completely ridiculous for any music publication that even borders on the status of 'serious,' which I think accurately sums Q up, to let the 'comeback of the year' go unrewarded.

Morrissey, had it all to do and succeeded in every area, singles, album, production, album sleeve and the all conquering live shows. The ambitious outsider infiltrated the charts and changed people's perception of both him and his music and he deserves awards for 'achievements in 2004' and not just the usual 'life time achievement.' Life time achievements awards are all well and good, but very often these day they seem to be given to washed up artists to appease both them and the easy listening/ don't offend anyone brigade. Step forward and jump off a roof Rod Stewart, Phil Collins, Meatloaf etc...

Moz has some stiff competition for the awards, but I think he should definitely receive at least one. Has anybody generated the excitement and anticipation of his live shows and also delivered with such confidence? And all behind that amazing stage stretching, lit up 'Morrissey.'

    Unforgettable!

  • The Q Award nomination is nice but nothing new for Morrissey. He won the 'Q' Award for Best Songwriter for 'Vaxhall and I' back in the 90's. I thought there was a Comeback of the Year award, too. Why wasn't Morrissey nominated for that? Maybe I'm thinking of 'The Brits'. That's what I'd like to see old Mozzer win. After all of these years for him to win a 'Brit' would be grand.
