  • In fact maybe the best one i've seen him do since the Smiths LA debut at the Palladium. But Am I the ONLY one that noticed that "How Soon is Now" is all pre-recorded except for Morrissey's Vocal?

    Last Night...
    There is a Light...

The band were wearing matching t-shirts w/ some number across the front and 1984 on the back. I don't really remember because Deano took his off ASAP! Anyway, only one stage invader. Morrissey dressed as a priest again and opened w/ HSIN. Said how he has three homes--Manchester, Dublin and Los Angeles--and he said he is pretty much an American citizen... just doesn't have the paperwork.

First encore, blue shirt. RIPPED IT OFF. Buttons everywhere. Stuffed it down his pants and then wiped his armpits and sweaty chest with it before tossing it into the crowd. Second encore, white shirt. OFF! Third encore, bluish grey shirt. Again, OFF! Then he walked off and the band kept playing. Meanwhile, a fight broke out to the right of the stage and then some dude started flashing gang signs. How embarrassing. Anyway, it was a great show. The band was tops. Deano's been working out. Jesse Tobias really rocks. Morrissey was brilliant. I hope someone gets a good recording of this one sans the screaming chick behind me. Oh well, better reviews to come (I hope).

PS - The usual Julia banter and down with Bush happened as well.

  • nancy was actually better than i expected. did these boots...lmky as well. don't know why she lowers her voice on it, her voice sounds so much better than that. spoke of mozza a bit. beautiful cover of redondo beach, spoke of steve jones, if that's his name.said how he finally enjoys the radio, he hadn't in england. said he has 3 hometowns, manc, dublin, and of course l.a. spoke of how it's november before he went into nsam. said he can't believe bush is in the white house for another 4 years, he can't stand him for another 5 minutes. again 3 shirts into crowd. gave mic to julia and asked her what she wanted, she replied for him to be truly happy. i think 2 stage invaders, others tried but didn't get on. on his back during nsam...lovely! his voice sounded incredible and i loved his little jig of a dance off the stage each time he took off his shirt. hhhmm, since i know now he's in town might have to swing by sunset a bit more now.

Julia was noce again the center of attention and he did give her the mic right before a song, which I dont remember because I was drank too much. Another thing is tha he was very mobile on stage and someone from the pit threw their beer at him , slightly missing him. the number on the front of the lads shirts was 278 and in the back was 1984, who knows what it means. love peace and harmony

  • .. by friday, life has killed me - only because thursday was pathetic since I didn't get a ticket for that show as well! Morrissey was awesome tonight! He was lively, talkative, played extra long and really seemed to show his love for los angeles. Some may think that the crowd wasn't as hot as it could be, but I think people wanted to soak in seeing Morrissey and enjoy every moment of it. I was glad not to see the useless moshing in the pit. It's nice to see that people have grown up and can enjoy a show without pushing and shoving others. Many of us, including myself, have loved Morrissey since the early '80 with the Smiths and couldn't have possibly imagined loving him as much as we do 20 years later. We are older now, and we are cleaver swines - and we will always stand by you Morrissey.

I feel honored to have experienced back to back nights with "3" encores, awesome.

I hope this was not his last LA show, hearing "you know I couldn't last" and his statement of whatever happens keep me in your thoughts, doesn't make feel real confident he's sticking around much longer.

  • definitely agree that the vibe on thursday was way better than tonight. not that tonight was bad, it was still absolutely amazing.. but no one threw their beer at morrissey on thursday, and no one interrupted him while he was talking on thursday.

in the pit for both nights, definitely worth the extra $$$.

    highlights of the show:
    - "mooning" our area on the left during i have forgiven jesus
    - when he got all fussy and frustrated with the "bloody" microphone stand
    - the new b-side.. the lyrics were really really great
    - once again, "steven patrick" in now my heart is full
    - everything else

    low-light:
    - way way WAY too many allusions to this being his last LA show.

  • ...through where morrissey exits the venue. I ask because as I was leaving I found a backstage pass sticker on the ground, so i put it on and went backstage. Nothing was happening, just a bunch of boring people standing around waiting for morrissey, i presume. But being that i have been backstage at universal before, and knowing that the featured artist that day did not come out to sign autographs, i left after about 5 minutes. Also my cousin didn't have a pass, so i couldn't have her waiting. Did I miss anything?

Also, and on a funnier note, as i was leaving the venue, one of the bootleg t-shirt sellers had a bunch of shirts on the ground and was selling them for $10. Suddenly, one of the yellowshirts started yelling to the crowd assembled around the bootleger to leave, and reffering to the bootleger yelled "julian, is that you, get the fuck out of here." The bootlegger got scared and began to walk away without his shirts, and i came-up on about seven shirts.

    Great show overall, everyone well-behaved.

Oh yeah, why isn't everyone excited over the fact that morrissey played a brand new song for us. I thought that would be what everyone would be talking about.

      Folk Lore
Next time you're washing your hands and the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be. Here are some facts about the 1500s.
Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odour.
Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children--last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water."
Houses had thatched roofs--thick straw--piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the dogs, cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof-hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs."
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could really mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.
The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt, hence the saying "dirt poor."
The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on the floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they kept adding more thresh until when you opened the door it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entranceway, hence, a "thresh hold."
In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes the stew had food in it that had been there for quite awhile. Hence the rhyme "peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old."
Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special.
When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man "could bring home the bacon." They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and "chew the fat."
Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with a high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning and death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.
Most people did not have pewter plates, but had trenchers, a piece of wood with the middle scooped out like a bowl. Often trenchers were made from stale bread, which was so old and hard that they could be used for quite some time. Trenchers were never washed and a lot of times, worms and mold got into the wood and old bread. After eating off wormy, moldy trenchers, one would get "trench mouth.
Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or "upper crust."
Lead cups were used to drink ale or whiskey. The combination would sometimes knock them out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and dri

Moz' voice was in superb form - absolutely great!

I only wish the pit had gone a bit wilder. I like it when it's a teeming mass, swaying and bopping, with the bouncers getting plenty of work. But it might be the venue is a little antiseptic...

    Anonymous -- Saturday November 13 2004, @08:34PM (#137526)
  • Why hasn't anyone mentioned this? What the hell was he saying to those people in the pit?

I don't remember what point in the show this was, around midway, but he asked Julia how she was, and if she needed anything. He passed the mic to her and she said she needed him to be very happy. He said, 'you're dreaming, Julia!' THEN...

He started asking other people in the pit how they were and if they needed anything. He started talking to a couple girls who seemed to be yelling and waving their arms (I couldn't completely see, I was in Orch row EE, they were near the left-center of the pit), and he had some kind of conversation with them. He was having trouble hearing them and he said into the mic, 'They left it in the... movie?' There was a long pause while he tried to hear or figure out what they were saying. He looked so pleasingly confused, like he was so fascinated by what these people were trying to say. He said to the audience, 'Wait, I'm sure she's going to say something brilliant.' Then he repeated something like, 'What? The movie? I really can't hear what you're saying.' Another long pause. Morrissey said, 'The eyepatch? What?' Pause. He had some kind of look of recognition and went 'Ohhhhhhhh,' sounding very disappointed. Then he turned around, walked back toward the drumkit, then turned back toward the audience and said, 'I was wrong!'

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ABOUT?

Another one with the black miltary hat on kinda looked like Liam but not for sure. The other 2 I didn't recognize. None was their new drummer Zak Starkey (from The Who and Johnny Marr/Healers band) though. :(

Some overly beefly, definitely not a vegan, spots him from the pit comes up and pays his homage to Noel.

Noel seemed rather mild-mannered and just drinking water. I kept wanting to ask if I could buy him a beer! But I didn't want to bother them...

Had already heard they were in LA recording their new disc. So guess that helps confirm that...

Seeing Noel and and 2nd night of Morrissey was just great!!

I know this may be random, but does anyone know the artist/name of the song that was played after Nancy Sinatra left the stage, but prior to Morrissey. The lyrics contained something like the following: "all these excuses, all these reasons why we're happy" and "I can stay here because I'm single and it's raining"

  • The Thursday, November 11th show in LA was my very first time ever seing Morrissey. I had very high expectations and I can say for a certainty that they were drastically exceeded!

I flew myself and my girlfriend out to LA (from upstate NY) to see MOZ as a birthday present to her. We both were first timers and we both thought the show was absolutely amazing. We had pit tickets and were about 2 people behind the barracade on the left side of the stage.

I took a zillion pictures (along with some small video clips including the entire There Is A Light stage attack madness) and will be posting them to my website as soon as I have time.

I am very, very interested in obtaining a copy of the Nov. 11th show on both audio and video formats. If anybody can point me in the right direction, I would be eternally grateful. My email is: [email protected]

Also, I have read the reported setlists from the Nov. 11th show and I dont remember MOZ ever playing The More You Ignore Me. He did sing a chorus of it at the end of one song but they definitely did NOT play the entire song or even anywhere near the whole song which kind of bummed me out. The Now My Heart Is Full was totally unexpected but absolutely brilliant.

Anyways, I was super pscyhed on the show and it has been stuck in my mind for 5 days now. It is safe to say that I will be seeing MOZ evey time he tours the US from this point forward!

Please reply back (or email me) with any leads on where I can find a video or audio recording of the Nov. 11th show. Thanks so much!

When you sleep, I will creep into your thoughts like a bad debt that you cant pay, take the easy way and give in.
  • I haven't seen anyone note that the lyric changes in "November" are becoming permanent...

    sleep on-and dream of love...
    WHY?
cause its the closest you will get
    to love
    and I should know
    I should know
    Poor twisted child
    I'M so ugly
    just so ugly
    ...
    One November
Spawned a monster in the shape of this child
    who later cried...
    Jesus made me
    so HE SHOULD save me
    from pity, sympathy
    and IDIOTS discussing me
    YES, I am a freak
    what could...

    and also
I am a symbol of where sex-mad lovers
must hold and draw the line

  • Hey there mozzer's, i am desperately trying to find pics of this concert. My girlfriend was the first girl to get up on stage and hug Morrissey. I would like to have a picture of her to remember the best times of our lives. Thanks.

  • Hearing Mozzer sing "I Have Forgive Jesus" while dressed a Catholic priest was worth the price of a plane ticket across the counrty! Being a gay recovering Catholic who spent 9 years in parochial school, I found it quite ammusing.

  • I was the lucky fan who snagged the drum skin cover that was thrown to the crowd from the 11/12 Los Angeles Universal show. It's signed by all 5 band members. If anyone is interested in buying it email me and I'll be happy to send you a scan of it and then you can offer me a price if interested. If I don't get any good offers here I'm going to list it on EBAY.
    Thanks,
    Michael

  • He is most DEFINITELY NOT lacking in genitalia.
How dare you say such a thing.
    Maybe its because you are.

  • My girlfriend and I flew up yesterday afternoon, got to the show, and it rocked! (Even though I had a extremely fun migraine, I enjoyed myself.)

I will say though, that I don't think the lighting was designed with the Moz seats in mind though...it was quite painful.

I also didn't like the fact that the amphitheater only had one person manning the first aid station, and she was never there. Very unprofessional in my opinion.

So, does anyone know what the 278 shirts were about? I'm assuming they had some meaning. (Potentially, and this is just a wild guess: page 278 in the book 1984. Being that the backs did say 1984...anyone know?)

But yeah, beyond those 2 negative points (which were really more with the venue than with Moz himself) it was definitely worth the travel to see.

  • The concert was great!!! Though it did take him an hour and a half to get on stage. The crowd was great and the song list rocked. I am still trying to figure out who the hell is JULIA???
