Moz welcome us to his own "Sacha Show" (Sacha Distel used to have his own tv music show in france in the 70's. He thanked french people for having Claude Brasseur, Brigitte Bardot (who "is good to black widow spiders") and of course Sacha Distel (Someone in the audience offered Moz a couple of vintage 45" from Distel "should I pay you" ?).

I had not heard about that one.

  • Hello,
    I am a long-term Morrissey Fan since 1990
and I have seen him playing at least 25 times,
means I was travelling a lot to see him, as he
is not that often in Germany.
Beside his fantastic voice, I always like the music (except Kill Uncle) as well, mainly as I love guitars. I have seen Morrissey in 2006 in OK
twice and I will see him in London and Manchester as well. So I am loyal, but - the live sound seems to be too perfect...voice, music everything is fine, but the atmosphere is missing and a lack of live energy. I love to hear some new tunes, hard guitars, something different. The keyboard sound makes it very much like the CD and the live power is lacking. E.g. Boz is playing on the ROTT mostly acoustic guitars and I am a guitar lover, but I could hardly hear him playing at all. Or in Ok he played the first nite Suedehead, it sounded soooo soft and not catchy anymore...not important, but this are my thoughts about the too perfect sound of Morrissey live nowadays...I am the only one having this feeling ?

  • It was a good venue. I met interesting quiff fellas and few good people standing at the queue.
The show was ok. Quite like Helsinki but the crowd less involved maybe. I really enjoyed "Still ill" this time (very well done and catchy) and "My life is an endless title..." (It seems as if i were the only one to be thrilled by it).
Moz didn't speak that much. He looked bored and quite obliged to say something nice about France. He said he'd like to live here but unfortunately can't afford it. When people reacted he add "why are you laughing?".
He spoke about the marvellous country that brought Claude Brasseur, Françoise Hardy, Brigitte Bardot (the crowd slightly throw some "boooo" because she's well know for her conservative views around here), Serge Gainsbourg and obviously Sacha Distel. I then gave him Sacha Distel singles :
"Do you sell them?". I said i could make a special price and he said something like "there's at least someone who likes me". He took them, looked pleased and made my day.

PS : I do apologize for the fellow-foreign-Dolce&Gabbana-fans who really enjoy the misfits, ruffians and hooligans mythology but can't stand the smell of a male frog. I confess the one who stinked was me. But forgive me, here in France, we are not used to take care of our hygiene and, as we don't have electricity, we wait for hot rain to take a shower.

  • Remember that what comes to your nose depends on the air con of the venue, not necessarily from the people.

As far as I'm concerned, Moz put on a really good show, the band played louder than ever which rocked the place, unlike the 2002 where he played everything slower with probably a budget sound system. In fact, the show sets a much higher standard compared to the previous Olympia and the 2004 Zenith which was a disappointment to me.

The crowd, although not going mad at every single frown and move of the man, was cheerful and warm, and so was the Mozzer. People who say the audience was cold and numb have obviously no eyes because I saw many fans with tears of joy in their eyes.

One thing that might surprise foreigners is that the fanbase in France have barely changed since the 80's while it's been much renewed in the UK or the US. 80% of the people in the crowd were the same thirty-something misfits with (no-longer NHS) designer specs on their nose you could see at the shows in the 80's or 90's.

If a few ranting brats can't take notice of such things and pay a little respect to those who have been following Moz for 20 years, I truely believe he does. And he was obviously happy to be there last night.

If you didn't enjoy it, you should have stayed in bed. I wouldn't have stepped on your toes. You wouldn't be whining now.

  • After reading your wonderful comments about the french fans , I have to admit that a real Moz's fans hides a good old racist ... It seems that the National Front can feel some pain sometimes ...

    Truly yours, Stanley.

  • Being a morrissey fan does not mean being deaf..

Moz does not deserve such a poor band.... heavy guitars when sensibility should be on, 80's keyboards..and a a quality of sound never heard in the Olympia...& I am not talking about false chords and lack,of rythm of some songs (girlfriend in a coma !!!)

Despite a non surprising set list (same as previous night - same next ones)
Moz has still a voice , a presence far above anyone around... but at least he could make efforts ..;picking a few old tunes , teach his band other Smiths songs (last nigh, how soon, coma...as last year)...

  • Last night's gig was the best I ever saw. It may be biased, but i loved it. Steven Morrissey was full of Grace.

I agree saying the crowd was rather quiet i.e. not jumping at every song but it was OK.

As already mentioned, he talked about Samy Frey but there were many people who understood. I think it just took a few seconds more than for the other names to link this one. Well he is a good actor too.

He answerded to s.o. in the front left and said "(...)you are frustrated? (...)she needs some medication" Did so hear what the girl was saying? Well it doesn't matter that much, but it might have been funny.

He mentioned Julia, saying: "where are U Julia?" she was in the front right -a boy then shouted "I'm here, I'm Juliaaa" Funny.

For "Songs from under..." he asked after the song: "How do you know this one, you can't!"

Morrissey sang better than ever to my opinion and seemed pleased. He was funny too, imitating us at the end applausing and pretending he was too tired too make his hands meet.

"Life is a pigsty" was a moment of big emotion floating in the air. I think many in the crowd must have been touched too...

Great night, the only point is that is was a little bit too short!

Viva Morrissey, greatest Poet of the century.

  • Paris is a lovely city, French people are wonderful (and don't smell any worse than your average Englishman!), and FFS Moz was there!!! Why do you all have to pick on things when you should be appreciating being in Moz' presence and enjoying his art??? Francophobic comments are so unneccessary!

  • Just one thing, you English people hating French country and inhabitants : please forget us, don't come to Paris, don't buy French houses in south of France... !
Last year I went to Arsenal's stadium to see a game against Charlton. Coming back to France, I told my friends about atmosphere, passion, love of sport, fair-play... I DIDN'T WRITE A POST COMMENT ABOUT HUNDRED OF DRUNK "SUPPORTERS" (MEN AND WOMEN)PISSING OR VOMITTING BEER AGAINST THE WALLS (fans of Trainspotting maybe?), because that's also England...

So let's talk about music please, and good british music !

And please spare us with french bashing!!! the audience at the gig was actually quiet trendy

    then don't.
no one asked you to. canada, indeed, sucks. i mean, canadians suck at baseball too, they're usually weirdo pricks. i once had a canadian roommate, and he had this vivid fascination with prancing around in his underwear bouncing off the walls. his humor was weird, and he was weird. i tried to be friendly, but he was just weird. true story. in canada's defense, i did have a few good canuck friends in college, but they were still always just a little weird. odd, and insecure humor. very nerdy. but overall, canada really sucks in every major way, it's no big loss. the only thing half interesting to come out of canada is Eric Gagne, Tom Green, and perhaps Mike Meyers, but that might be stretching it.
anyway, you make a good point, but canada does suck and should be left behind. i don't want you to buy the album, and in fact, you better not! but i know you will, you can't help it. you're one of THOSE. you'll be in the corner, in the dark, beating off to, "Dear God Please Help Me". anyway, dude, ciao!

I'm French, and I don't want to spread bad stereotypes.
As I said, I go to lots of shows, movies, subways and other crowdy places...it's quite rare to be disturbed by nasty smells...

Please, if you have an odor issue, take a shower (and use soap) before going to a crowdy place.

Just hoping the smell didn't reach the stage, or we'll never see Morrissey in France again :)

Did I tell you I saw several couples making love during the whole show (1 hour and a half, wow)
Just trying to spread a better stereotype...
