  • Can't go into much detail-no time. The important part was that the set list was COMPLETELY different. He opened with William. Also did Disappointed, I've Changed My Plea, Please Please Please, Everyday Is Like Sunday, and all of Dear God! also, no intro tape per say. The intro tape was a bunch of videos played on a screen.

  • I hate Kristeen Young in the opening xSSS!!!!!!!DF and Monterrey be prepared for 6 or more looooong songs.

Before morrissey started to play, they put some new york dolls, elvis prestley and james dean videos on the stage screen.
He also played girlfriend in a coma :D, it was a nice concert but I was expecting him to play last night i dreamt... or there is a light that never goes out.
Throw 2 shirts to the public, and a bunch of purple Chrysanthemums, showed a mexican flag sayng " moz loves mexico", and said some words in spanish.

  • The Venue:
Nice place, around 5,000 people attended the gig. Personally I didn¡¦t like the acoustics too much, not very well (at least not from where I was seated - yes seated ƒ¼).

    The Gig:
Very punctual, Kristeen Young started sharply at 8:30pm, never heard her songs before, but I was positively surprised, I liked her music. Just drums and a keyboard but very strong performance; however audience was not very responsive with her, perhaps because at that point about half of the arena was empty (people still getting in).

Few videos projected on a large screen after Kristeen and before Moz appearance. I recognized videos of the New York Dolls, excerpts of James Dean¡¦s ¡§East of Eden¡¨ movie and few other artists I couldn¡¦t recognize.

Then The Man came to stage and said ¡§bienvenidos¡¨ (welcome) and started with William¡K

The Set list (don¡¦t trust me on the order):

    William, It Was Really Nothing
In The Future When All is well
Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice
    Panic
    Dear God Please Help Me
I've Changed My Plea to Guilty
    First of the Gang
    Truly Disappointed
Ganglord (introduced by Moz as ¡§Go Back to the Ghetto¡¨)
    Let Me Kiss You
    Everyday Is Like Sunday
    Life Is a Pigsty
    How soon is now?
    Girlfriend in a Coma
I just want to see the boy happy
I Will See You in Far-off Places

    Encore:
Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want
    Irish Blood, English Heart

(He never played Tony the Pony or Billy Budd, as stated above¡K)

I noticed at the beginning some miscommunication with the audience, perhaps because of the language, but he was very open and even talked some phrases in Spanish, ¡§Bienvenidos¡¨ ¡§Gracias amigos¡¨, etc. Then he asked the audience about the quality of the sound and when everybody responded that it was ok he said something like ¡§well it shouldn¡¦t¡¨. And then he made some comment about The Smiths being (not his exact words) ¡§¡Ka ghost that always is besides and behind me¡¨ and jumped right into Panic. The crowd went crazy at that point and then he got really connected with the audience, people throwing flowers at him, a Mexican flag which he wore as a skirt, and a Union flag as well. He changed his shirt four times but only two of them were throw into the public. He made comments about ¡§I just want to see the boy happy...¡¨ coming soon as his new single in the UK and more Spanish phrases at the end like ¡§Vaya con Dios¡¨ ¡§Hasta Luego¡¨ ¡§Buenas Noches¡¨ etc. All in all, and from my personal point of view, an excellent concert, fantastic. I really enjoyed it and I think Moz did as well. He mentioned that he was flying to Mexico City today and at the end he filled us with hope with returning soon to Guadalajara when he said ¡§Hasta Luego¡¨ (see you later).

Before he went on with Panic he said (something like this):

"Ever since I've done this (refering to being on stage), I've had a big ghost following me everywhere (refering, of course, to The Smiths)"

Nice concert, the crowd was completly lame, insipid(as usual in Guadalajara - he should've dedicated "the world is full of crashing bores" to this city)...
I had a blast... pure bliss... but I wish he would've played two or three more songs

Patrick "Suedehead", "I Have Forgiven Jesus" o "There's a Light that Never Goes Out".

  • For Christ Sake...what an incredible moment!, what was your experience here?.

Mine: The magical/Cathartical/Explosive/Soothing moment came to me just before HOW SOON IS NOW?".

At some point of the concert a friend had just rolled a joint and gave it to me, I hit it once very deep and waited for some moments. At the same moment Moz was finishing one song, he taked off his red shirt shirt and dropped into the audience, left the stage and a piano solo was being played, just at that very moment the THC effect hit me. Moz entered the stage again, now with a bright white long sleeve shirt, "How soon.." started to play, and there started to flashing the lights...and stay so during the WHOLE song. At that moment my mind just blewed away...I was in a hipnotic state of conciousness...incredible...just fuckin´incredible...his performance in that song was like a shot into the body...the crowd went nuts...when the song finished all the people was in a state of grace...I think I shitted my pants...

Both are missing the song: YOU HAVE KILLED ME, and it was played!. Nos the set list is completed.

I don´t think the audience was lame, I have been in concerts in Europe as well as in US and those guys (Germans and gringos) are completely crashing bores...I understand that Guadalajara does not have the best audicience ever, but believe me...yesterday it was really good and I hope Moz can came very soon...

  • It was an awesome show. I arrived at 6 pm sharp at VFG arena, and there already where legions of Morrissey fans standing in line, waiting to see the artist who visited Mexico in 1999 last time.
At 7:30 the gates were opened and all of us, people form Guadalajara and abroad, entered.
Me personally, I made a 10 hour trip from Puebla the night before, and barely made it back just after the concert. I'd been looking forward to see the Moz for a long, long time.
Inside, I reunited with my Colima friends. Together we made quinielas (bets) as to what songs was Morrissey going to be performing.
At exactly 8.30 Kristeen Young made her appearence, she sang about 6 songs and even though her voice is fascinating, people where starving to see their idol. Facing the "Morrissey, Morrissey" chants Kristeen had to state her name and remid the audience they'd have to wait for her to finish her song. It was inevitable.
Near 10 pm the band showed up. People went crazy, a full VFG Arena -in spite of almost no publicity on Guadalajara streets- exploded as Morrissey aproached to the microphone, he vowed and said: "tapatíos, hola!" William it was Really Nothing started, ackward way to open the first of three gigs in Mexico, oh but what the hell. At first it was worst than I expected, people where singing so loud I couldn't hear his voice, there he was, Morrissey in all of his splendour, and there was no way of listening to him. Little by little this situation was fixed. The songlist was as follows:
    1.- Intro.
2.- William it was really nothing.
3.- In the future when all's well.
4.- Don't make fun of daddy's voice (these two have very similar starts)
    5.- Disappointed (!)
    6.- Panic
7.- The first of the gang to die
8.- Dear God, please help me.
    9.- Let me kiss you.
10.- I've changed my plea to guilty.
    11.- Everyday is like Sunday.
    12.- Girlfriend in a coma.
    13.- Life is a Pigsty
    14.- How soon is now
    15.- You have killed me
16.- I want to see the boy happy.
17.- I will see yu in far off places
18.- Please, please let me get what I want
    19.- Irish blodd, English heart.

Everything went alright -apart from some people getting hurt by trying to catch one of Morrissey's shirts- and there were no people who jumped the fence to try and touch him.
Amongst other interesting things that happened, Morrissey grabed a Mexican flag (that someone must have given to him) and strapped it around his weist as he sung TFOTGTDie. Before singing EDILSunday he said "can you bare more?" people shouted "YES!" and he responded "Why?", there was a lonely (because it was just one) who yelled at the bottom of his lungs "BECAUSE WE LOVE YOU!!!" -well, I love you too" he said. The lonely voice was me, of course.
He seemed pleased to have filled the arena (I presume) and menaced to come back with a "hasta luego". When he went backstage, poeple continued to scream, shout, chant, clap, and stand still wanting more. Eventually he came back and said "el cantante es un fregón" (the singer kicks ass). He played two more songs (PPLMGWIWant and IBEHeart)and left. The lights went on, and everyone had a smile on their face. Me, I will se him tomorrow in a not so far off place, called Mexico City. Cheers, and thanks Moz.

    1. William, it was Really Nothing
    2. In the Future When All's Well

    4. Disappointed
    5. Ganglord
    6. Panic
    7. First Of The Gang To Die
    8. Dear God, Please Help Me
    9. Let Me Kiss You
    10. I've Changed My Plea to Guilty
    11. Everyday is Like Sunday
    12. Girlfriend in a Coma
    13. Life is a Pigsty
    14. How Soon is Now?
    15. You Have Killed Me
    16. I Just Want to See the Boy Happy
    17. I Will See You in Far-Off Places
    ENCORE
    18. Please, Please, Pleasre Let Me Get What I Want
    19. Irish Blood, English Heart

He was fantastic. Not too much to report banter-wise, seen as he was in patronising-non-English-speaking-country mode but with a setlist like that I think we can forgive him pretty much anything. Also a new backdrop, new picture on the bass drum and a series of videos (Sacha Distel, New York Dolls, some old Eurovision, Billy Fury etc.) instead of the usual pre-show tape. Just 'You'll Never Walk Alone' and some classical music I didn't know after the videos finished. Some 'Ringleader...' songs just keep getting better, '...Future...' in particular seems to have benefitted from a bit of R&R, although '...Far-Off Places' has maybe been tinkered with a little too much. 'Girlfriend...' and '...Kiss You' have not been improved at all and for my money have overstayed their welcome. The new stuff was all brilliant, in particular 'William...' and '...Plea...'. See you in D.F. tomorrow x

  • There's still a bit of balast in that set list - Let Me Kiss You for one - but anybody who like myself has followed Morrissey's solo live career since 1991 will know that is an AMAZING set at this stage in his career.

Not least - I've Changed My Plea To Guilty. That is monumental he is playing that.

    And Disappointed too. Bloody amazing.

New Smiths additions always interesting, but if he does Guilty at Wembley I may explode.

But does make me think; he MUST take note of comments on this site because that set is far more balanced in terms of his whole career than the ROTT-heavy first leg.

  • I love Moz and think he's a genius but the thought of these two turkeys getting another airing in his december shows is bemusing me. They are mediocre in the extreme. Why oh Why when he has a fantastic back catalogue does Moz choose to play these. And before all the houlier than thou brigade come on slagging me,I know its the artists choice, but can anyone hand on heart state they deserve to be played.

  • This sounds like an excellent set-list. I was slightly uneasy the new gigs would be just a re-tread of the Summer concerts (which were just -slightly- tooROTT heavy and low-key for me), but now I'm very much looking forward to the GMEX at Xmas. Huzzahs!

I made it myself and like it better than the official ones at the merch stands.
