  • Thank you Moz (Score:2, Interesting)

Have just got back from the NIA, and am tired, so will post more tomorrow; at this stage I'd just like to say that I am amazed that some people have nothing better to do than post fake setlists; he did not play Interesting Drug or Reader meets Author. No pigsty, anybody's hero and Far off places instead. The encore was Please, please as well as Daddy's voice, and despite a disappointing number of empty seats (the arena was halved anyhow) and a lack of atmosphere, he gave it his all. Superb performance, many attempts at interaction with the crowd (mics handed over to -yes, Julia- and one other, references to the Culture Show and the Queen knighting him like Sir Paul and Sir David etc.). So many thanks Moz and I look forward to Manchester.

Bye the way, this was the longest of his shows I have ever been to, a good 90 minutes!!!If that isn't dedication!

  • What an irony! When he was without a record deal he was packing them into the concert halls up to the rafters. Now that he's gone corporate again, sections of the 'arenas' have to be blacked out to hide the empty seats.

What's this all about? Is he gigging too much? Is he saturating mass culture again to the extent that he's alienating his true legion of followers?

I even mentioned tomorrow's gig at Wembley Arena on an internet forum, just curiously asking if anyone was going along and have received zero replies.

    I'm befuddled.

    What's gone right?

I think the reason there was so many empty seats was because there was a huge accident on the motorway due to an over-turned high-pressure truck, which made it impossible for anyone who needed to travel by northbound to get to Birmingham, as it was closed.

I was one of the many people who was stuck in the 30 mile tail-back, so we were unable to attend Morrissey's gig in Birmingham, which was a huge disappointment.

I'm also pretty sure that he sold out at the NIA, so a number of the empty seats were probably down to the fact that it simply wasn't possible for most people outside of Birmingham actually get there.

Just got back, great gig, all the usuals, 3 shirt changes, Julia, but a very very chatty Moz !!!

He said quite a bit about the Culture show poll, Sir Paul, Sir David, perhaps the queen is sat at home etching my name read to say "Arise Sir Mozza", then went on to say if Macca wins, cover of Rolling STone magazine, if David Attenburgh wins, 6 o clock news, 9 o clock news, 10 o clock news, if I win, it would be dropped quicker than a hot potatoe!!!!!

Good to hear National Front Disco live again (liked the extra drums at the end).
Please Please Please was covered pretty well I thought.
From reading previous set lists, I was in 2 minds if it all worked, but I assure you it does.

Crowd not too bad to be fair, the usual numb nuts stood in front of you who insist on putting their head where you can't see, and not knowing any of the songs!!!

All I can say is rol on G-Mex on the 23rd (or is it the 28th?????)

The big disappointment though was not even a wave when getting into his car after the show. Booooooo!

Going by the 'tour' section of Moz Solo, yet not having any other reliable sources, the only gig on this leg to sell out is the last night at the G-Mex.

It is understandable that Morrissey has plumped for these inhospitable and unatractive venues after 2004 but this should be a sharp reminder:

    1. You have a huge audience but they are not stupid and will stay at home if you're not playing a one to three thouand seat theatre that we hope you've chosen in Grimsby as some lovely reference to something or someone.... and that we can see you.

    2. We await the newly appointed G-Mex but every other arena venue will be souless even if packed. And they ain't.

    3. Okay, it's a limited schedule, with only a handful of gigs in the UK, which is fine because Germany and Greece and Mexico should get thier share, but I know a tiny bit about the financial ends of these arrangments and surely if you'd have played a UK club tour finishing with 3 nights at the Brixton Academy and 2 at the Manchester Apollo on the 22st and 23rd then you'd have sold out to the extent people were brawling in the street for tickets, you'd get press, and you'd be in pocket?

Oh Morrissey, I don't know what I'm talking about because I've never been in your job or situation... but maybe this arena tour will (no matter how enjoyable, and the setlist is spot on) make you come back to what you know for the next tour.

And don't go blaming Sanctuary by the way.... I LOVE YOU. But ROTT sold less the YATQ and the new single won't sell tickets. It's 'know your limit' time again, until the new album is preceded with a sensational single like 'Gang' and all your new media mates will finally get the fodder they've been so desperate to chew on.

I like Russell Brand... But imagine if there was a killer, I mean KILLER, single to go with the interviews? ROTT contained none in the first place and the 4th should have been Work Of Art. The good thing is that Morrissey is now cool again amongst Russell Brand and David Walliams and so the next album will get loads of press.

And if it is good, and every soul in the World wants to see you live, Moz, then still stick to playing the theatres and let the unlucky ones listen with an ear pressed to the stage door..... Just like it should be, just like it was.

  • I felt compelled to have a say on the gig last night, after first watching the smiths in 1983 and to the present day watching Moz when the bones allow.. He was in top form.. utter brilliant set list.. The crowd were great.. cannot understand some moans that the crowd were quiet.. not where i was standing it was'nt.. Big pat on the back to Boz for carrying on playing when he lost a string..class. The band were in fact brilliant tonight all of them.. Moz gave a performance worthy of the man, total class.
He gets moans at for lack of interaction with the crowd and then gets moaned at for to much. The man cant win. Have been to 6 gigs this year and this was the best.. it was great to hear william live again. please please please me was excellent.. but the highlight for me was I've changed my plea to gulity if only for the fact I was as usual singing my head off when suddenly a number of people around me went quiet.. oh!! dear didnt know that one did you??? nevermind.. its best to have people young and old even if they dont know all the songs otherwise if only the people who know all the songs were allowed in it could be lonely for me.. so lets lay off the younger generation they have as much right to be there as anyone.. and lets face it last night i was pleased to see so many of them there.. and if anybody knows how many gigs the moz has played this year?? is it any wonder not all the venues are not packed to the rafters..please if morrissey played ONE GIG next year he could fill any venue in the country in minutes.. we should all be happy that we can get tickets. brilliant gig.. brilliant crowd.. lets enjoy the moment there might not be many left..

I don't know if you noticed, but he played 30 small venues earlier in the year. If you really wanted to see him at one of those you could. I got a ticket off ebay for last night of the Palladium for £35, a week before the gig.

I think it's for the fans benefit he mixes the type of venues up a bit. It also stops the band from falling into a routine. So stop whinging.

  • "and i just want tooo, i wanna see the boy happy" - if thats true Moz, than i can safely say you passed with flying colours. Last night was completely amazing.

I would like to start by thanking the two lovely ladies who kept me company during the rain. Your stories of bad coffee making and interesting knitting antics were amusing the say the least! Then theres Chris, thanks for letting me on the list, shame the other members of the queue couldnt appreciate what lengths some of us had gone to be at the front! Gotta give a shout out the Hugh too, he was a good fella thanks for chatting dude, shame you didnt get on stage that mug would of been a treat! Also Jason, if your out there matey, glad you got the shirt, and hope it was more of an experience down the front!!

Managed to get pretty much front row center and the set, well that was my 5th show and song wise was spot on much better than this years earlier tour. Highlights were dear god, please please please, in the future, and Disappointed!! However the sound seemed better in manc/llandudno as i could hear him sing there, not some sweaty bald bruiser (BTW thanks for your albow in my kidneys all through william)but meh i cant grumble!

Morrissey seemed very soaciable and happy, some cracking lines. Also at one point it fell quiet and i shouted "THANK YOU MOZ THIS IS EXCELLENT" The next thing he says is "thank you, thank you your too kind" I know this was prolly aimed at the whole crowd but it seemed as if he was replying to me. In my head he was :p

The crowd scared me during Kristeen Young, silence. I wouldnt of thought i was at a gig at all, let alone a moz gig. However within seconds of moz repeating brum and the intro to panic the place erupted!

Today has been weird, kinda a weird after glow, i cant believe i was within feet of the moz-father this time last night! Roll on 22nd

  • ...This isn't really related to the Birmingham gig, but I didn't know where else to post this. I just realized that in the video for "In the Future When All's Well", Alain is the drummer. I am not joking or being stupid to stir stuff up, I just realized it as I was watching my download of the video. I had only seen it once before ,and it occurred to me that while I hadn't seen Mat Walker up close before, the drummer bore a shocking resemblance to Alain. But I figured it was in my head.
Then when watching it more closely a few days ago, I realized that it was definitely him, I mean he's a little paunchier looking and he's been out of the public eye for awhile (where Moz is concerned) but at a certain point he turns his head and you can see that mole at the back of his left jaw, under his sideburn. It's Alain for sure.
Once again, this is not a joke, does anyone have an opinion on this or am I dreaming?

I agree with other Mozians comments about the lack of atmosphere but I must admit it was a relief to see him in an environment where by I didn't have people sitting around me eating Haribo!!!!! He talked to Julia about Emmerdale and Coronation Street; plugged the single as usual; told everyone that if either Sir Paul McCartload or David Attenborough won the British Icon award it would make world press however if he won it then it would be dropped like a hot potato!!! GET VOTING!!!

I battled for a piece of shirt and won Hoorah!! but only after battling with three seikh lads that were stuck to the front barrier like super glue they claimed that they had caught the shirt and therefore it was theirs I made comment that it was no ordinary shirt and rightfully staked my claim for a peice of free memorabilia, I'd love to know where he buys his shirts from as it took a lot of effort to tear the bloody thing but I got there in the end.

Oh did anyone notice that during National Front Disco he didn't actually sing 'Front Disco' after national????

Overall Happy Happy Happy.Hope everyone else enjoys their gigs this year I look forward to the next one as I always do!!!

  • That poor kid shes nabbed is going to grow up as a fur obsessed slut just like her! She really is unbelievable, and to you people who believe that we shouldnt be talking about these things on moz solo, your pathetic. This is the material that morrisey spends hours of his time, writing songs about people like her!

  • Apparently she has ordered a batch of pheasants onto her country house - to be shot as a hobby!
She is now well into the "traditional English Country Living", shooting, etc.
    Fuck her!

  • Oh boo fucking hoo. Somebody call PETA. Do you actually have a mind of your own? I bet you probably wear leather and eat meat or perhaps you were one of those brainwashed by years of listening to "Meat Is Murder". PETA kill as many animals as those fur hunters. You sound like one of those militant loons who dig up the relatives of people who perform animal tests. Now run along back to your tofu.
