  • i would have loved to have been in the front row for this show.. security was a bunch of asses.. moz bent down and sang to the front while telling security to lay off.. moz chatted with arturo and arturo actually came into the crowd to talk to security.. not sure what he said as they were still pretty rude after he left.. no stage invasions, which was lame.. absolutely no barrier at all.. it should have been complete mayhem, but everyone was boring..

convo with a bloke from essex was pretty funny.. i guess i will have to go to sidcup one day to get the joke..

  • Good show (Score:2, Insightful)

Morrissey and the band sounded great, and the man was clearly happy to be here. Highlights for me were This Charming Man and Seasick. I have to say, however, that this show paled in comparison to the last two DC area shows I saw at Wolftrap and Constitution Hall. Unlike the Constitution Hall show, which ended in a euphoric eruption of stage invasions, this show had none. As some above have indicated, there may have been security issues up front. I also thought the setlist was kind of dull, particularly the second half. I enjoyed hearing a large percentage of the new album, but I didn't think the picks from the back catalog were particularly inspiring. With two fairly mediocre tracks from Quarry, I Keep Mine Hidden, and a cover, it just seemed like there was a bit too much B-material. Finally, it seemed like Moz's legendary wit was a bit off. Unlike his usual pointed comments, it seemed like he didn't know quite where to go with much of the banter, and it frequently trailed off into nonsense. All in all, a good show, but a just slightly disappointing compared with the last two. That being said, I adore the man and I hope he returns to the DC-area soon!

I love the way he is dancing and his voice sounds terrific. I think it was mentioned in a recent interview that he loved the physical power of the more aggressive music that his band play, that really comes across from the videos. Although, his gigs have always been very exuberant and physical anyway, in my experience.

  • Best concert of my life was The Smiths at Warner Theatre in June of '85. I was in the second row - bought the tickets from a broker for $40. A friend of mine bootlegged the show. He gave me his jacket(with the recorder in the pocket) when he invaded the stage during "Barbarism". I can't believe I gave him the tape back later that night at Poseurs - it sounded brilliant. I'll never forget Morrissey dedicated "Heaven Knows" to the "sexy" security gaurds and how incredibly piercing his eyes were that close up.
We all met the band down at the Shoream hotel the next morning before heading to Philly for another brilliant show at the Tower.
It can never be anything like that again, so for that reason and several hundred others, I've moved on. I really felt some mixed emotions about not going. If it had been the 9:30 or Constitution Hall....Nahhh - but that place is special.
I do wish Moz all the best but I'm not buying the records anymore and I will not be playing him on stage ever again....still kinda wish I'd been there.

All you next-to-last-row ticket holders who hung around up front, sat in other people's seats, moved in and crowded the front couple of rows where you didn't belong and acted indignant when told to move, f*** off! You all suck! Because of you slag, I couldn't even reach up for a handshake from Moz.
