The set list had no surprises and consisted of all the same tracks you have seen reported here previously. Highlights for me were "Ask" and "Seasick Yet Still Docked."
A few attempted stage invaders towards the end of the encore, but no successful attempts. I don't think I've seen anyone make the stage at a Morrissey show at the Rave before. I've been to see Moz before in Milwaukee and, surprisingly, there was a larger than usual crowd tonight, but more subdued.
Moz was chatty, with many shirt changes. He said, "Hello Milsqaukee" to begin the night and later said, "Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay...well, no one lives in Green Bay." I was in the balcony and looked down to see a small group of people, perhaps from the Green Bay area, look simultaneous at each other with shocked faces.
At one point, Moz held up a crowd banner that read "We are your thoughts." Earlier, a fan held up a sign "Morrissey for Mayor," which even had a website www.morrisseyformayor.com. This seemed rather strange to me, though spring elections in Wisconsin often feature mayoral races (Milwaukee does not have one this spring).
As we have read before, Morrissey's voice is in fine order on the tour, but the set list does not have all the energy of the best previous tours. There are high notes, don't get me wrong, and the set is very tight. But, put this tour next to something you'd see on "Live in Dallas" and you would know what I mean. There's some urgency missing from the performance. In those solo days, there was something there that isn't there now. One person, as I walked out, noted to a friend, "that was the guy that used to sing those songs." Maybe that sums it up, I thought to myself. I followed the milling crowd into the street, staring at the back of a middle aged man's neck tattooed with MOZ in big black letters.

Sadly, the crowd itself disappointed me this show. During the Courteeners everyone stood still as if their feet were planted to the floor--I saw more love for DD and he doesn't even play music that has the feel of Moz's sorta like these Manchester boys seem to have. I was shocked and disappointed--I was VERY happy when I learned the Courteeners were opening and was half as excited for them as I was for Moz. So seeing the crowd not feeling it both surprised me and let me down a bit--and it seemed clear the boys noticed it too. But, hell, I suppose all opening bands experience those shows once or twice.
Then Morrissey made it up to stage and the crush began. I was for the most part right in front, one person ahead of me, & within seconds we were madly squished. When fans so much as tried to lift an arm towards Moz, the security shot them down and were sorta nasty about it. Quite a few unruly types (can't believe someone said this crowd was TAME) were so violent in their attempts to get toward the front that they hurt some people near me--including almost knocking over the poor nine year old Moz fan that was their with her parents. I know that we Morrissey fans can get fanatic--but I feel like I was at a football match or something a few times there!
Now, I hate to be so negative so that's enough of that. This is a Moz show after all!! It was, of course, a wonderful experience. I'm always really impressed by Moz's band and these new additions have really added to the whole experience. Not that the staples weren't as amazing as per! It was fun to see Boz and Jesse up there--especially Boz who was utterly pleasant when I met him (or when any fan meets him, really) a few years ago. He always seems to have a lot of fun performing, and it showed tonight 100%. Jesse's guitar playing just...BLEW me away. As if there is no effort to the craft at all to him. BLEW me away. No other words for it.
The new (to me) bass player is absolutely delicious and fun to watch. I couldn't keep my eyes off him & when he brought out the big bass and rocked out with it right in front of us I couldn't stop cheering!
And Morrissey himself? While it didn't seem like he connected with the audience as much as he seemed to when I last saw him--he was as exquisite as ever. If not more so. I think we all know that even if ever chose to step up on stage and give 50% it would still be more than enough for us--not that he wouldn't give all for his fans. His voice was in top form and he really seemed to feel the music. I was SO PLEASED to hear a lot of the songs played--there were a few I thought I'd -never- hear live ((The Loop!!!)). That alone made this concert magical, despite some of the smaller problems encountered. Plus I got an autographed copy of the new album vinyl and got an autographed copy of the Courteeners Cd (which I already had, but hello signed! digital camera phones with people standing next to their fav rockstars be damned--give me an old fashioned autograph any damn day!)
Cheers to Moz & cheers to everyone that made this night as amazing as it was. Can't wait for the next visit!!!! ((PLEASE let there be a next visit Morrissey 3 ))

Strong performance. Weak set. HSIN was the best I've heard live. Morrissey was upbeat and his vocals were amazing. Best Friend on The Payroll was slightly unrecognizable. Audience seemed to have no clue about Keep Mine Hidden. Seasick was lovely.

i'm still reeling. so many songs i thought i'd never get to hear live (billy budd, best friend on the payroll, seasick, the loop, ask, plus all my favorites from the new album). the highlight for me was the loop. seasick was amazing. i liked the "reworking" of ask. my only complaint was the somewhat tame version of paris. i really wanted to hear him belt that one out. this was my fourth time seeing moz and i'd have to say it was by far my favorite.

The show itself was great. The crowd was HUGE! For some reason, Milwaukee always turns out big time for Morrissey...we can be proud of that. The master's voice is in top form, truly amazing. He is singing better than ever at 49! The band sounds TIGHT!!! Jesse did a cool arpeggio thing during the outro of Seasick that was new and really beautiful. One of the best nights of my life and I will never forget it. I've not washed my right hand yet...
A friend of mine supposedly caught both my handshake and stage attempt on video...I'll post when he sends it. If you watch the one already on YouTube, that's me at about 2:58 trying for the stage, ha.

Anyhow, Morrissey was super...gotta be honest and say I would have preferred less songs from YOR, but hey it's cool, he was promoting the album!
