  • - Man goes into a vets in Hull, with his cat in a basket.
"Is it a tom?" asked the vet.
"Nay lad, 'ave got it ere in't basket". -

I believe locals get this fast, but while I muse, whatever the man with the cat hears is probably what we hope also didn't happen to Morrissey...??!!

  • Just got home after a very noisy gig in Hull. The sound quality wasn't the greatest, but the band and Morrissey were all on very good form. Support band Doll and the Kicks were very good, a strong set full of well crafted songs, lead vocalist had great stage prescence. Morrissey's set was pretty much the same as other dates on the tour, a good mix from Years of Refusal, Quarry and Southpaw Grammar. Smiths songs included This Charming Man, I Keep Mine Hidden, Ask, Girlfriend. A great atmosphere from the Hull crowd and a sold out show. Roll on Friday at the Apollo. Shot some good video which will be uploaded very soon.

  • Morrissey on top form arguably

    "Thankyou Hull"

"Does anyone want to say anything nasty?"

    "Well you can't"

Mostly the same set i think

    Opened with This Charming Man

Encore: First of the Gang to Die

Boz Birthday, and something about Hull City that a fan mentioned, Moz replied he supports Millwall, crowd booed, Moz said he only mentioned the name Millwall, don't get upset.

Doll and the Kicks were good

Excellent gig, very strange venue, (but they've been stranger)

  • Incredible show! I got right to the front (long blonde hair in a Queen is Dead shirt). Moz and the band on top form, sounded brilliant. To top the night off I got a handshake from the great man! Spot on!

p.s. Im sorry to the American (I think!) lady who I was squashing nearly all night. It wasnt my fault dear. x

  • It was a really, really good gig. Moz and the band were amazing. His opening line was 'Something is squeezing my Hull." There were a few idiots in the crowd but there always is. Morrissey passed the mic to the crowd at one point and a guy at the front said into it 'You saved my life' which received laughs and shouts of 'gay', Moz replied with 'When?'. Quite a few people crowd surfed and managed to shake his hand.

  • ...were also on fine form. This is only my 5th Moz gig and I only travelled 60 miles for it but I will definitely be back in Hull. They were so up for it and I think Moz genuinely had a ball. Band on top form too.

The only strange moment was 'When Last I Spoke To Carol' which just didn't sound at all right to me. Moz had to move away from one of his monitors and I think he may have been out of sync with the band for the first verse..?! It just didn't hang together...not sure why...maybe just me...

Anyway a top night. Roll on Manchester :-)

  • My 4th Morrissey gig and he was in fine form, joking with the audience and looking very good (loving the cardigan!). From what I can recall, songs were (though not necassarily in this order) This Charming Man, Mama lay softly, HSIN, Paris, Girlfriend IAC, Black cloud, How can anybody possibly know how I feel, Paris, Let me kiss you, Carol, Why dont you find out for yourself, Best friend on the payroll, Something ISMS, One day GWBF, Crashing bores, I keep mine hidden, Ask, Some girls ABTO, Sorry doesn't help, OK by myself and First of the gang for an encore.
He introduced the band, then got to himself and said "and me, me, me, me, me!!!"
Got signed LP 5 of 20 so v. happy!
    A great night!

  • Still buzzing from an amazing lively gig... Just wish I'd been standing, although admittedly I had possibly some of the best seats (not that I sat down).

    >Insert what everyone else has been saying about how great Moz and the band were here

I recorded most of the gig (not great quality, but it's there), and have some photos, so I'll post a link to all that when I get it sorted.

  • I had a great night although didn't like the seated area-I did actually sneak in to standing even though I didn't have the blue band. Great version of SISMSkull and Some Girls are Bigger than other was a surprise. Doll and the Kicks were really sweet at the t-shirt stand. Can't wait for Sheffield now!

  • Hull Gig (Score:2, Interesting)

Not Moz at his best! Venue like an old fish market or something(it certainly smelt like one!),Sound quality okay. I would have liked a few more tracks from his earlier solo albums, what he never seems to dig out these days. A few Smiths songs for good measure. The band were good with their interaction with the crowd, especially Boz Boorer. Also could have been on longer than roughly an hour and twenty minutes. All in all leaving aside the venue and Hull itself 5/10 in my opinion. Maybe due to Morrissey's recent illness he wasn't on top form. Still a Moz fan and always will be!

My boyfriend was a Morrissey virgin and he really enjoyed the gig. Think I might have successfully brought him into the cult.

Surely not, why then is there no definitive set-list for Hull?

"TCM at the start and 1stoGtD last", "set list the same" when the 2 previous concerts we're both different!! I mean come on, friends, please!

  • The Cambridge set looks pretty close I reckon, see below, but I'm not sure 'Mama...' was played after 'Black Cloud...' but I'm sure they played it. Anyone remember? I was too busy trying to stay alive, the pit was insane, such massive blokes and a couple of unpleasantly drunk meatheads launching each other up every time Moz came near to us and kicking people behind them constantly. Nice. Man in white shirt you know who you are.

I think I might have clocked the phone thieves too and definitely one guy desperately looking for his phone in his pocket and not finding it. Rubbish venue really, sound wasn't very crisp, but great gig. Where I was standing nobody seemed to have a clue what 'I Keep Mine Hidden' or 'Why Don't You Find ..' were though!

Fingers crossed that he gives me a second chance when he comes Berlin
