Tonight Moz and the band were on really good form. I saw them in one of the re-scheduled Brixton shows in the summer and tonight was probably better.

Same set-list as All-Pally; slightly different order though. There was more banter between songs than usual. A couple of times he gave the microphone to crowd members and asked them questions. He said this show had gone better than the Liverpool show, which was pretty funny.

He also said that he'd gone into a few Dutch record stores and hadn't found his new album; he asked if we should commit suicide now or just delay it. When he gave the mic to an audience member for his view the guy said he already had Swords...so Moz told everyone not to worry.

His energy level seemed to be pretty high and belted out songs with a lot of power. Te band were on great form too. I wouldn't worry for those going to the up-coming gigs.

Was great to see him in person after all these scare stories.

  • Went to see old Gilb' a few weeks ago. A minor member of the Morrissey pantheon of camp anti-heros - remember the covers of 'Nothing Rhymed'? ANYHOW - little Gilbert (now approaching his 63rd year) did a three hour concert (that's 3 hours) and managed to cram new stuff alongside all the old stuff in a way that exemplified the art of carrying your back pages in an easy way whilst acknowledging your continuing development as an artist. 63 years old . . . a three hour concert. Professional.

If Liverpool is and was Morrissey's last ever UK show then his opening line 'It's Saturday night, it's raining, it's Liverpool, it's perfect!' and 'Goodbye' will probably have the same iconic status as Rotten's 'Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?'

I'll start ordering the t-shirts now I think!

He complained that no recordstore at Nijmegen had any copies of Swords. Well, what does he expect? It's a compilation of b-sides.

When Morrissey finally, after al these years, played Cemetry Gates, it brought tears to my eyes. Because it was played so very, very BADLY.

  • Where to start? Doll & the Kicks? Just as bad as that Kirsteen Young banshee.

Then His Mozjesty came on. The sound quality was horrible. Everybody that says "his band sounded tight" is a compulsive liar. "Death at one's elbow," "Cemetry gates" and "How soon is now?" were brutally raped and left for dead. Johnny Marr should sue Morrissey for violating these wonderful songs.

The setlist was piss poor. Big crowds at the bar during "Teenage Dad" and "Poor Education." A lot of people complained about the setlist.

In my opinion, a very average gig. At best 5,5 out of 10. And I'm feeling extremely generous today.

  • I think, though I could be mistaken, there are people out there who are interested in the concert at Nijmegen. If you are trying to wage a war against Morrissey's reputation you are losing. It only shows how much you actually like him when your anger spills out so vehemently. This child-like reaction upon being, in effect, turned down by your hero is, while understandable, frustrating in its apparent blindness. You are hurt and pretending you hate the one who hurt you - when, in fact, it is your lost love which grieves you. So get in touch with your feelings and maybe you will see that your actions give the opposite impression to the discerning eye. This comment i am making is in a way a paradox since I wasn't at Nijmegen.. just another lost soul who tuned in to see how the concert went. My actions might not be any better - but I don't mind looking like a child- whereas, you with all your pride must shake in terror when you look in the mirror.

  • after the tour?? (Score:1, Insightful)

well, it seems with all the cancellations, Swindon and now Liverpool it would be safe to say this tour has been slightly cursed and rightly or wrongly has left a bad taste in quite a few fans mouths. I saw two shows on this tour, the first night at Brixton which I thought was a real letdown and RAH which was in my opionion a terrific show, even so from having seem Morrissey solo many times and being a big fan even i would have to say that the general atmosphere at those shows and from others I know who have seen different shows on this tour seems to be a little flat both from the crowd and from Morrissey himself on stage. I guess what I'm really wondering is where does he go from here? with the fairly low sales of YOF and Swords it is hard to imagine what kind of deal he will get next, probably too much water under the bridge to think about going back to the indie route (Rough Trade etc) but hard to imagine a major kicking down the kind of advance i'm sure Morrissey and his management would find worthy. He seems to have lost a lot of ground after the fantastic comeback of the Quarry album, 2004 was such a great year to be a Morrissey fan, I think Ringleaders being an average album didn't help. YOF in my opinion was a real return to form, better than Quarry if i'm honest, maybe it didn't have an Irish Blood etc on it but overall a more soild record. His voice has never sounded better although I wish he would go back to some of his third person or social observation type lyrics at times, most of his stuff now is no me, myself and I and when he does try to write from another point of view he doesn't quite hit the mark like he used to. I kind of like quite a lot of Swords but wonder if that is even when Morrissey is kind of going through the motions on a few of the songs he is still better than a lot of artists. I seriously doubt there will be a new Morrissey album (live and comps excepted) for quite a while, at least three years or so if at all. as far as touring goes I really don't think he will ever tour like this again, i can't imagine him ever block booking three to four months of dates in the future, I would imagine it will more likey be a handful of one off bigger shows in the cities where he has a large draw or a few isolated multiple nights in selected theatres and even if he does that I wouldn't expect to see Morrissey on a stage again for a good few years, he might even call it a day. Sorry if i've rambled but just a few thoughts i had floating around. Also is it just me or does everyone think he should have stuck with Attack and the Sanctuary MGT team who handled his comeback in 2004? That album and the tour dates was handled so well, really on it. seems his tendency to constantly switch his team might have backfired as ever since he moved on to new mgt nothing he has done seems to have that glitter and glamour from before, it all seems a bit trad and by the book. not fitting for such a great artist. anyway take care all and I hope you all enjoy the rest of the shows, make it count for him and yourselves as you never know when the next time will be. love x

This represents his greatest creative and diverse period, and it's a wonder that he's ignoring it. I'm glad the last concert I saw was on his 48th bday when there was more variety, including I've Changed My Plea To Guilty.
