My view is that Morrissey has - to some extent - undermined the great enigma he had built up over decades with some very dubious, style-free photographs, less exciting interviews and the tedium of his appallingly presented 'Ringleader' album.
While his songs are still wonderful (YOR demonstrates this), the musicianship is still - as ever - lacking. And now with the myth of his own enigma having crumbled, Morrissey does face a possible Maladjusted-style disaster if his next album isn't up to par, in that there will be almost nothing left to cling to.
I wish I could get inside his mind and try to fathom why he has chosen to work with Tobias out of all the guitarists who would willingly work with him. I suspect it's because Jesse does what he's told, has no higher career ambitions than being his session musician and that he doesn't steal any of Morrissey's limelight.
Sadly, these reasons are perfectly sensible reasons to have him as a friend but not to have him in the band of this country's finest living artist.
The band he has now is fantastic except for the lead guitar. Keep boz, alain on songwriting duty, and the rest of this band but fire jesse and hire bernard butler, john squire or johnny greenwood.
I feel sorry that M continues to allow his band to bludgeon this charming man to death like a re-warmed Offspring.

Splendid appearance. Yes, voice a little uncertain especially in the first half. Battled through bravely. The whole show was a highlight, but Irish Blood was particularly phenomenal and got a massive cheer.
Got the feeling he loved the reception in Brussels. And rightly so. Nice bunch of well-behaved, respectful music fans.
Before Charming Man: "Welcome to songs for swinging lovers"
After Black Cloud: "Thank you enormously"
After Irish Blood (lyric change: "with both of my legs untied"): "So every song - a shocking adventure and this one no different, yet completely"
After First Of The Gang: "Is it really that good? [cheer] Have you been drinking? [no/yes] You will be soon"
After Find Out For Yourself: "Last night at the Hotel Amigo in Brussels - do you know the hotel? - I ended up on Marianne Faithfull's bed. She was in the bed, smoking Marlboro Marlboro Marlboro *coughcough. I was on the bed, not smoking. And, what? Well, I'm about to tell you! Patience. What happened next was.. nothing. We exchanged pleasantries, I tipped my hat, threw on my cape, jumped on my bicycle and *boom. Unrelated... [in reference to the next song, I guess]"
After Crashing Bores (lyric change: "they who wish to crush you"): "The word is full of crashing bores. Can you name one?" [mic passed around] Someone said "it sure isn't Marc Bolan" then suggested Moz add Bolan & Gloria Jones in his Mini footage to the pre-gig video's to which Moz "there isn't [any]", someone suggested "Sarkozy" to which Moz replied "I never get political", then someone suggested the Belgian king. Moz: "The Belgian king is a crashing bore, is that true? But do you know a king who is not a crashing bore? I mean, have you EVER heard of the British royal family. Jesus! Talk about thicker than pigshit. You're lucky!"
Before the encore Skull: "You have made my heart swell. Thank you Brussels!" And off with the shirt at the end of the song. No stage invasions, but plenty of handshakes & "nice tries".
Please return.

mediocre set-list (Score:0)
It's at moments like this when a little quality control or perhaps a 'second voice' might come in handy. That second voice would help to harness Morrissey's lyrical genius and give his songs the kind of dynamism and flair they deserve.
Morrissey wants artistic integrity and wants absolute control -- but at what cost?
I - for one - don't wish to see this band slaughter several Smiths songs they cannot play or grind through some of his more mediocre solo offerings, which they CAN play - but badly.
The finest songs on YOR are majestic in their ambition, melody and poetic lyricism; however, each moment of drama is ever-so-slightly undermined by stodgy guitars, bland chords and an overall sound that huffs and puff and keeps on churning out MOR rock. It cannot ruin my enjoyment of an album that touches the atmospheric heights of Vauxhall, explodes with the rag-tag English pop that Southpaw hinted at and contains seven or eight top quality songs. However, Jesse's songs are poor - again - and the lack of guitar originality is the problem. It's not an issue of virtuosity. Mediocre technical players can be exciting -- but the guitars are just DULL on YOR as on most of his solo records since YA. When they find something a bit unique and a great song, they can just about sound powerful (IBEH, FOTGTD, YHKM, SISMS) but the better songs are those in which the guitars almost disappear, and that's quite a sad inditement of their playing.
