Morrissey spotted at The Apex Theory concert on New Year's Eve

I went to the Roxy for New Year's Eve show with Stolen Babies, The Ambulance, Apex Theory, Onesidezero, and Adema (appearing in that order). Figured it beats staying at home.

After The Apex Theory got done with their set I get out of the pit and go to the left side of the stage since my sister and some friends are there. Suddenly out of the corner of my eye I spot this guy with a familiar hairdo walking towards the backstage being led by the hand by someone, I do not even remember what he/she looked liked.

ITS MORRISSEY!!!!!!

I think I only had like 2-3 seconds to react so when he is in front of me I tap him on the shoulder, he stops momentarily, I put my arm around him and just tell him that I LOVE his work. He says thank you and pats me on my shoulder before being pulled away by that person. I was in shock. I know he goes to a bunch of shows in L.A. but I certainly was not expecting him there. I tell everyone around me and they don't believe me. One of the guys that came with The Apex Theory overheard me and said, "where is he???". I told him he just went backstage. Like 15 minutes later I see the guy again and I ask him if I was right (I seriously doubted myself because of the liquor... not that I was wasted, hehe). He was ecstatic. He's like, "yeah!!! he came to see us!!!!"

If he did, it makes sense because he went backstage as soon as their set was done. My brother-in-law... the drunken fool.. hehe, tried to go meet him when we thought he went to the restroom, but instead saw him leave through a side door before the next band came out.

  • I don't know who they are, but if Morrissey likes them enough to go see them I should check them out, too. I wish I'd see Morrissey at an Athenaeum show, but it's a little far for Morrissey to travel, I suppose. Maybe if Athenaeum ever play LA Morrissey will go see them. Perhaps I'll even go see them in LA.

  • i'm not directing this at anyone in particular, but i'm always surprised at the big-deal some people make about which shows Morrissey goes to.

    Just because the man attends a show doesn't necessarily make him some huge fan of that band... (in a pessimistic sense) it only means he had some interest in seeing what they were about. maybe for us, paying for a show is a big deal, but i doubt it's the same for Moz (if he even pays... if i were in an LA band, i would have Moz on the guest list for all my shows)

    on a side note, i think it's great that Morrissey goes to alot of live shows. there's an energy to new live music that's really inspiring. if that volume and energy is reflected in Moz's new record, we could have a masterpiece on our hands!

  • That's quite funny, because I saw Morrissey, Courtney, Stipe, and some farm animals! Though it should be noted that I had a few as well.

  • If anyone could possibly give me one reason why Morrissey would have even the slightest interest in this band, it would be appreciated.

    I went to their website to check them out and got depressed. Their biscuits aren't limp, they're stale.....

  • Why on earth Moz would possibly want to see these sorry bands is beyond me. Adema (or at least I think it was them -- who can tell the difference between all these [c]rap-metal clones anyways) played on Leno recently, and all I remember about it is the taste of my dinner... as it came back up to revisit me. I just hope he's not looking for influences for new material he (hopefully) is writing.
