On Mark Nevin's website, he shares his recollections of working with Morrissey (and Kirsty MacColl, too). I tried to paste a bit of it here, but it didn't work. Anyway, it's a good read. Here's a link:

  • great story about morrissey. but i'd love to hear more about peter hogg and for that matter, jake. there has to be somewhere they went on record about their time with him. i know that everyone in morrissey' band hates hogg, but why?

I'm almost sure you can do better than that.
  • Take note stalkers, this is what Morrisey-solo is all about! Posting information of use, not evidence for a possible restraining order.
    Keep em' coming, boys.

  • Mr. Nevin seams like a really nice and greatful guy. The story of him and Andrew Parisi laughing nervously while watching/hearing Morrissey sing in studio for the first time is priceless. It is good to know that Morrissey has a fan in a former collaborator and that not everyone who works with him takes a shot at him.

  • Enjoyable story (Score:2, Interesting)

I love hearing the storys about those good old times. There have been some pleasant things to read on this site for a change, mostly the things that don't deal with current events. I wonder how things might have been different if Nevin would have chose to go on tour with Morrissey. I do love the band Morrissey ended up choosing. I was sad when Gary Day departed for a while but I am glad that he is back. I wish he would bring his stand up bass back also. Loved the story. Thanks for posting it.

  • Fantasic article!
Kill Uncle is an album that I can love one day and hate it the next but then love it again two months later.
It's interesting what the background people in Morrisseys career have to say.
Mark sounds like a top bloke and I wonder what might have happened if he carried on playing with Morrissey.

  • For Mark Nevin.

Many musicians or whoever worked with Morrissey
in his almost 20 year career as singer and
lyricist, only a few of those who worked with
His Holyness are aware that they had the oportunity to work with onbe of the best and
unique person in the music busseniss, and still
feel and see this positive and refuse to act
childish by [ofcourse the following words are
not meant to take them littterary] stabbing
Morrissey in the back or refuse to talk about
working with Morrissey, which gives me, and maybe
others, the feeling that they're dissapointed
or not satisfied about Morrissey's behaviour and
descissions concerning that he's not aproachable
and refused to discuss why he descited to end
relations [bandmemebers or whoever was involved
with his carreer or studiosessions for an album
    or single/demoos ] even managers.

  • That was a wonderful little article. What are the chances of Burt Reynolds of Cheshire, walking past the post box in North London just as you're about to send him some tapes? Loved that bit about Morrissey hanging out a lot in that club in Camden too...wish I'd been there but I never had a cool haircut.

  • Mark's busy now (Score:2, Informative)

Hi. I don't know whether Mark Nevin would tour with Morrissey if the option was available. He's doing his own thing now, to the point where he scuttled a possible Fairground Attraction reunion a few years ago to make a go of it as a solo artist.

He just released his second solo album and is touring around England and is doing some European dates later this year to support the cd. While it's very different from the Smiths or Morrissey, and his singing isn't quite as strong, his cd is very good. It's like Fairground Attraction meets early Van Morrison, and most of it is quite uplifting. You can listen to some of it on his website and watch a video of his last single.

So while he probably wouldn't join up as part of Morrissey's act, I'm sure that he would love to open for him.

  • yeah, that's a real sweet article. I think Nevin was much underrated. He only wrote about 15 songs with Morrissey but half of them were absolute beauties e.g:
    1 sing your life
    2 driving your girlfriend
    3. changed my plea
    4. I know it's gonna happen
    5. the loop
    6. tony the pony
    7. family line
    8. mute witness
    etc!
