According to the BBC web site, Alain Whyte will appear on a special segment for Morrissey's birthday on Liz Kershaw's show (usually 13:00 - 16:00 WET) on May 22nd and will discuss the record deal rumours.

  • It may sound strange and affected to many but I´ve always been interested for Manchester, at least since 1985 when I discovered the unique foursome.
Living in Rio, Brazil, however it is somehow difficult for anyone to understand why would I be so fascinated by some gray English industrial town, specially living where I live. The truth is that Smiths´ music was so essential to me when I was in my mid teens that I wanted desperately to see the universe that raised and nurtured them. I am quite sure that with the release of this book now lots of people will have the chance to discover the secrets and why not...the beauty of this musical town. Let´s celebrate it!! It will be a romantic trip...maybe next time...

  • It's been updated since her today's show finished and now says:
    Wednesday 22 May

Morrissey is 43 today (happy birthday, love!) and as both a tribute to the man and an update on his movements, his guitarist and co-songwriter Alain Whyte joins us in the studio. Email us with any queries regarding tour/release dates and we'll try to answer them.
So you can't say fairer than that. Alain whyte is inviting us to e-mail him questions that he'll answer live on air tomorrow.
Next best thing to from the horses mouth. Hope everyone listens to it.

Yes, see the instructions at "How to Listen"" [bbc.co.uk] and then click on "Listen Live"" on that page.

Not much we don't already know really. Alain confirmed the USA august tour, 2 Japanese gigs and Jaguares support. Said there is NO record deal cos Morrissey wants a big company for a big push on new album. No european tour but possibly in October/November. And when asked about Morrissey playing Summer festivals in the UK he said something like Oh yeah Morrissey has big plans to play lots of gigs in the UK....but he didn't give any specifics.
Apart from that they laughed about how some web-sites seem to stalk Morrissey, Alain said his 3 favourite Smith songs were Bigmouth, What Difference and That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore, and There is a Light. (well that's 4 but that's what he said)
The 3 songs played during the 40 minute or so interview were We Hate it When Our Friends, Panic and Alma Matters. Alain seemed like a nice fellow and mentioned how he's been on the phone to Morrissey last night.
If there was something I mentioned that he said that we DIDN'T already know...well I get confused with all these rumour stories. That was about it I think.
