Furby writes:

There is a short interview with Morrissey in The Irish Times today (Saturday). It basically goes over much of the stuff that has been already reported but in the interview he says that he has "two albums worth of new material recorded. But you know, I'm just a bit long in the tooth now to give them to any record company in this climate - I mean, have you looked at the top 30 recently? The industry, I believe, is now certifiably insane".

He describes the two Albert Hall nights as being "untoppable, and it's why I still do it, it's why I'm still involved. As long as I can do it without looking too dreadful... And I've always done it in spite of everything, in spite of no radio play, no MTV, in spite of a million critics... you know the last time I played the Albert Hall was with The Smiths in 1985 - that's 17 years of pain, anguish and sorrow."

He is not enamoured of realising his new album on his own label or over the Internet. "That's too much like a private concern. It would be like talking to yourself in a corner."

The article finally describes how he lives in Los Angeles and Dublin. "The people who criticise Los Angeles I find are the ones who have never been there. Yes, certainly the people are clinically insane but I find that the warm weather expands me. And Dublin, it's because of the people. I believe you could drop a H-bomb on Dublin and the people would still be the same."

Now what I find interesting about this article is the reference to two albums of RECORDED material. I was under the impression that the songs were ready but had YET to be recorded.

Maybe I picked this up arseways. Anyway, maybe you'll find this interesting.

(davidt): I thought at one time I may have been talking to myself over the past several years, but having been to many concerts on this tour and meeting so many great people who have said they visit often, I know that isn't the case.

I talked with Dean in Tucson and asked him if he had much time to rehearse and he said he really didn't need much because he knew a lot of the songs because he had been working with Morrissey for a year and had done a lot of sessions with him.

Alain has said there is like 25 songs and now Morrissey himself says there is two albums worth.

I guess if a record deal does happen it won't take long to get something on the market.

I think the tour and the TV appearances and the BBC sessions are all putting him in the news and that will help show the record companies that he is still around.

It just needs to happen now. I'm ready.

      • you know, if i was an A&R person, i too would ask morrisey for his demos because i would run home with them and listen to them and brag to my friends that i had them.

however, i am not an A&R person and we have to continue on as he finds yet another label not to sign with.

I don't know why he would rather keep playing these songs live and let scores of people burn them for free off the net instead of getting them recorded on a label and at least seeing some drops in the bucket from songwriting royalties.

not that i withheld from downloading them...

  • Nice to hear Moz saying the Albert Hall concerts couldn't be topped. I agree, I was there.

    Welcome home Moz!

  • As an armchair A&R man, I would advise Moz to show some restraint and put out a strong album with 11 or 12 songs than a so-so album with 19 or 20 songs. I'm probably in the minority here, but i'd rather have the quality album, and stick the rest of songs on B-sides.

Also I don't know about the rest of you, but don't you think albums are sometimes spoiled for being too long? I think this applies to Louder Than Bombs.
