Peter Noble PR sends:

For Immediate Release

Reynolds & Hearn are set to publish two extraordinary music books in mid November, 'The Smiths: Songs That Saved Your Life', and 'The Unknown Paul McCartney'.

For full press release and downloadable pack shot: http://www.noblepr.co.uk/Press_Releases/reynolds_h/smiths.htm

Songs That Saved Your Life is the first book to chronicle the complete recordings of The Smiths. The readers of the New Musical Express recently voted the band the most influential band of all time, beating the Beatles and the Sex Pistols. The book takes a detailed look at all The Smiths' released and previously unreleased songs including the rare "Matter of Opinion".

With a revealing foreword by Smiths drummer, Mike Joyce, 'Songs That Saved Your Life' is brilliantly researched and written by renowned music journalist Simon Goddard. It is timely that Goddard's first book is being hailed as the most important Smiths document to be published since Johnny Rogan's infamous 'The Severed Alliance' biography in 1992.

Interest in The Smiths is currently at an all time high due to Morrissey's recent live concert appearances and the fact that he is currently in the midst of negotiating a new recording contract. In 2002 we need The Smiths, now, more than ever.

  • It's all very fine but I can't help but think that this book has got to be sort of second rate. I mean, the foreword is by Mike Joyce! Who cares about him?! He dragged Morrissey and Johnny Marr to court and now he suddenly has something interesting to add to the whole story! Nah, I don't think so...It would be more interesting if Morrissey or Marr had written the foreword but I don't think they care about this book. Joyce, on the other hand, knows his fifteen minutes of fame are over and unfortunately he tries to make them last a couple of minutes longer...

Will you put your arms around me, I won't tell anybody
  • I hope this is the one. Personally I dont like Rogan's style. All Men Have Secrets was like a fanzine. David Bret's was rubbish. Mick Middles was all muddles. Kevin Cummins was just a scrapbook. I hope this is the Smiths book that we deserve. I'm sick of reading bad research and same old rubbish. I hope these promises of details of new songs are carried through?

And will it be out in US I wonder?

Interest in the Smiths is at an all time high? I think the PR guy who wrote this is the one who is 'high'...

So, in other words, what we've got to look forward to is a pack of lies again?

  • Well, somebodies gotta buy. Is this a CD OR just a book? Not clear. Bjork has this family tree thing coming out that seems to sound like part book and part a million songs. So i wonder. I too am a bit annoyed that the one smith they talk too happens to be the one that shouldn't, and never did, for good reason as we'll find out.
If it is a CD...one of us is gonna have to get it, and upload any rare stuff on it. Alternate anything, and unearthed track.
*MozMonstar says, "me want rarity" yes that was lame but so what.
I say we should all find those other guys...lol "the other guys in the band" and stone'em.
    Argh
