The British Sunday tabloid the News Of The World is reporting on its showbiz page edited by Rav that Morrissey is over the moon after signing a £5m deal with Sanctuary Records. “An insider told me: They’ve bought his back catalogue of songs which they will re-release.”

This was in Rav's entertainment column. Story reads as follows:

'Charming man Morrissey is over the moon after signing a £5 million deal with Sanctuary records. An insider told me: 'They've bought his back catalogue of songs which they will now re-release'.

Fair enough, but are they going to release any new stuff? And can anyone really imagine Morrissey being 'over the moon' about anything?

Still, fingers crossed.

In a crappy gossip column in todays god awful sunday tabloid the news of the world it says morrissey has signed a five million pound deal with sanctuary including back catalogue which is to be reissued if not repackaged. it is very rare indeed for such a downmarket rag to take any interest in morrissey whatsoever. just so you know

  • Maybe we'll be graced with ANOTHER compilation album? *Rubs hands together* Oh please, Oh please, Oh please, give us some new material! Should I move on? I don't want to... This is getting quite ridiculous, you know... What's the deal with music? Do we need a revolution? Oh, I'm such a bore. "It just isn't like the old days anymore..." I think I shall retire now and listen to some Vaseline's records. Ciao, baby.

  • It should be noted that the News of the World Web page has a link that allows persons to submit stories. Given how prevalent the floating of hoaxes is out here, how hard would it be to do the same with a magazine that (like this site) solicits stories? Click here [newsoftheworld.co.uk]here for link to the Web site.

  • There is no way a deal would include the entire back catalog. The EMI era is controlled in perpetuity by them. The only recordings that Moz controls that he could peddle to someone are the Southpaw Grammar Era masters. (oh joy...)

  • I work in a UK record shop.
Our Pinnacle Rep. seem to be saying the same as the newspaper.
Don't know 'bout the re-issues, but Sanctuary appears to be best bet.

  • The Weekly World News is reporting that Al Qaeda is holding a camel wash to raise money to attack America! Given the number of times I've heard Moz has been signed, I put more faith in the camel story.

  • Admittedly it is a downmarket rag full of celebrity scandal - but is the story THAT unbelievable??? The Sanctuary rumour has been going round for months now, so who's to say it isn't true?

Although having said that, why it would be announced in NOTW is beyond me. Also, why bother re-releasing the back catalogue again?? Is there anyone left who hasn't got viva hate yet??

Whether there is truth in the story or not, surely it's only a matter of time.

  • I went to their site to sign up for their newsletter and they allow you to select the labels and bands you're interested in and it lists Morrissey along with Pet Shop Boys and Alison Moyet (a great trio, I might add).

  • Isn't Sanctuary responsible for releasing a new live DVD that was filmed at the sold out shows at Royal Albert Hall? I thought that was evident thus far in their relationship with one another..which makes sense as far as to why they have him listed already.
