I fell for the "Ludus Lumini" submission from "olly storey" last week (link) but then recently I received this submission from what appears to be the same person from the ip log:
---
moz accident
sebastian melmoth writes:

heard this morning from l.a. that moz got hit by car on the sidewalk late last night after walking home with friends. heard it from some guys i know who live nearby him. not too serious but they said he hurt his shoulder or something. he spent night in l.a. district hospital.
---

Time for a reminder - this website is not my full time job and I usually do not have the time to follow-up on story submissions so I will make mistakes on occasion and unknowingly post something that is made up. I will try to correct them whenever I can.

I would say 99% of the submissions are honest. Thanks for those as always. Thanks also for respecting my time and the time of others who visit the site. I realize I am a gullible person - please do not take advantage of that fact!

  • "heard this morning from l.a."

    reminds me of

Homer: "Hello Vegas, give me a hundred bucks on red.... D'oh! Oh okay, I'll send you a check."

    Anyway...

David, if you only posted things of which you were 100% sure, there would barely be anything to post! So keep posting those rumors... their trueness or falsity will be shown in time.

  • Er, um, well, ah, I know that I don't know as much about The Smiths/Morrissey as most of you. Despite listening to every album, single, b-side, and reading every book and article, most of you know much more than I do. Still, I think that this comment was sick, because it caused emotional distress to people who thought that Moz was hurt. I immediatley started checking online to see if I could confirm this. I was worried that today I might be reading Moz's obituary. Were you really trying to inform people or just cause them unwanted anxiety? If this was legitimate, we would have read about it or heard about it on the news and/or entertainment shows. Did you really have to rush to do this? What point did it serve? We learned nothing and you could have caused widespread Panic. Perhaps you should have thought about the implications of this comment. I think you should be banished from this site. Next time, think before you email crap like this. Oh, and just so you know, nobody walks in LA.

  • Yes obviously a hoaxer - his name gives that away - Sebastian Melmouth was the pseudonym taken by Oscar Wilde after he was released from prison and went to live in France.

However our buddy spelt it incorrectly (Melmoth was his spelling) - what a shame when someone shows great wit and imagination that they are found out by a spelling error for the undereducated person they are.
