But then I thought, would it be so bad if Morrissey got a few bona-fide hits from working with someone responsible for today's sound? But then I remembered Liz Phair's new album didn't set the world on fire (and didn't "The Matrix" produce her?)

Morrissey works with people he admires and respects, the producer of Blink 182 wouldn't feature there, god no. I just hope he doesn't 'fax' old Steve lilly'pad'white again, Vauxhall was great but....after that, well, talk about stifling the music. I just hope John Cale or Nigel Godrich get a postcard or fax very soon, maybe they already have.

I am not crazy about Moby at all. In fact, I really don't care for him-
but here is the kicker, Morrissey's album will be *great* no matter who produces it!
What do producers do anyway? I am very musical, but I have no idea what goes on during this process whatsoever.

So your worst nightmares probably won't come true even if this rumor turns out to be a fact. Morrissey has obviously used Madness producers before, even as song writers. And besides bringing the Smoking Popes on tour, he also cited their "Born To Quit" LP as one of the best albums of the last 15 years in a Q Magazine profile (the other was Cornershop's "When I Was Born for the 7th Time").
And yes, the "Destination Failure" LP from the Smoking Popes sounded fantastic, and truthfully, "punker" than "Born to Quit". But the way some people have complained about the muted sounding "Malajusted" for the last six years you should be jumping for joy now.

Morrissey WILL be releasing some great songs. 'Could You Please' and so on... There WILL be great songs in addition to FIRST OF THE GANG, MEXICO, I LIKE YOU...
Whichever UK or US producer is used, the tapes can also be sent to other producers and then remixed, so, it WILL be interesting to see what happens next.. as they say in Question of Sport. Speaking of remixers..does anyone know what happened to FLOOD ?
Surely, at least half of the fun is now sitting and waiting for these wonderful new songs to be recorded and then released later in the year !!

I don't know him either. And I don't know if this rumor is true. But looking at his credits it's obvious he's got lots of talent. Rancid's "...And Out Come the Wolves" is a fantastic record. So is Smoking Popes' "Desination Failure." He's worked with Jawbreaker, Green Day, The Living End, Blink 182.
Those are pretty good bands IMO. (I don't know why Blink 182 is so hated....)
Anyway, yeah, some of are just talking out of your buttholes, as usual.
Here's a clue: You can't judge an album until you can, like, LISTEN to it....
But ah, well I did a quick Googling of this Finn guy and there's an interview with a band about working with him. They say he is in his own time zone and likes to show up 5 hours late, and then insists on watching Family Matters before getting to work. Hmm. Heh.

I can take Morrissey living in L.A...but not recording there. I want him to record in the coldest, grayest most desolate parts of England...with no access to Prozac.
