I wrote this song a while back and thought it would be very appropriate today for Moz and Morrissey-lovers as well, even if Valentine's is a lost cause...

Southpaw

Your words will forever ring in my mind
"Sing your life, any fool can think of words that rhyme"
And I know it's gonna happen someday
Because every day is like Sunday
And, oh, on Sunday
On Sunday you know I love you

You and I, spawned in November
Oh you, the last of the famous
And I, stuck to you like glamorous glue
Certain people I know say it's not right
But now my heart is full of you

Your words have forever changed me so
"Do your best and don't worry"
And I held on to my friends
Because I know the loop will bring you back someday
And, oh, even if your busy, really busy
You know I'll still love you

You and I, spawned in November
Oh you, the last of the famous
And I, stuck to you like glamorous glue
Certain people I know say it's not right
But now my heart is full of you

  • unless you don't mind experiencing the worst abdominal pain of your life, that was abysmal and I am still wretching 20 minutes later. My life is appreciably worse for having read that "tribute?" Morrissey may decide to never write another song if he sees what a negative effect he has on certain fans!

I think this is actually quite nice. A way of taking what Morrissey has given us and turning it into a tribute to him on Valentine's Day.

Remember: The love you take is equal to the love you make. Or, something like that.

  • It's a cento, think that's what it's called, in other words a poem composed of lines from other pomes. I did something similar once w/ song lyrics from Robert Wyatt.

  • It's what Valentine's Day's all about - Hallmark sentiments customised to the audience in a slightly unconvincing manner...but it's very sweet. And far more eloquent than anything I was sent yesterday...

True friends stab you in the front.
  • This is tragedy at its worst. Were you really being serious? hmm? You took every lyric that is somewhat decent and distorted them to fit your silly little whim. Morrissey's lyrics are to be internalized not distorted, and mishaped. We understand you have a vast knowledge of Morrissey/Smiths, you proved that. Next time, you may want to put more thought into your work before you submit it. Yes, (I know it may even happen to you someday, if you would stop listening to annoymous calls, and poisen pens sweetie)
