According to ARIA (Australian record industry association), Morrissey is at No 64. Not too bad considering minimal publicity & no airplay.

  • I haven't heard BOO from this album over here, even record stores seem to deny it's existence, so for it to get 64 is pretty special.
And when I mean no publicity I mean NONE, the only thing I heard was on a radio station called PBS which no one really listens to.

  • BMG are the local distributors, and they have elected to all but comprehensively ignore it. It and Moz are mentioned NOWHERE on their website. Nowhere. The single's not getting local release, the album's only available in the one pathetic format. The release of "Under the Influence" got more publicity. I sodding hope Moz or the people at Sanctuary read this and consider finding an Australian distributor who's actually interested in promoting the album. Although, as a matter of interest IBEH has had some play on JJJ which counts for something. Also I found 3 copies in the crappy Sanity store at Sydney airport on the day of release, which at least shows BMG have their distribution systems in order.
Still, the point remains Moz lost a LOT of Oz fans when he treated us like dirt cancelling in '91 and taking going on 12 years to return. Such disdain does not sustain fandom.

  • I am Australian, and I'm awfully sad to say that Morrissey seems to have a terribly low profile in this country. I've only heard one song played on the radio - 'How Could Anyone Possibly Know How I Feel?', oddly enough, was played during a new music programme on Triple J national radio, - and even though Moz headlined the tent just two years ago at the Livid Festival, there was a very small crowd in attendance at the gig (the Brisbane gig, anyway - I'm not sure about Sydney), and there was little to no post-gig buzz.

It's sad because I know that with just a little bit of support, a lot of people could fall in love with him the way I did that day at Livid. (The reason I went to see Moz perform was I'd heard he didn't like Radiohead, and so I figured he must be insane... It really doesn't take much to win fans.) ;)
