Luke Haines of The Auteurs & Black Box Recorder has been singing a new song entitled 'The Heritage Rock Revolution' in concert/radio sessions recently. Some of the lyrics follow, and it's been suggested that Haines is talking about Morrissey:

Cryogenically frozen, unfinished masterpiece
Got his own Meltdown
He's a bona-fide legend, a credit to his rest home
Who let him out?
He's gonna play all the hits that we knew
And all of the new album too

  • He played this at his recent London show. I never noticed the line mentioned; I can't remember the comment he made other than this song relates to a number of recent events and people.

  • It could equally apply to David Bowie, no ?

  • Thankfully he has the tunes, the lyrics and the black sense of humour to back up the vitriol.

  • Luke Haines is the second best songwriter in this country.

Saw him at the Islington Academy recently and the quality of his work is quite breathtaking.

I've recently been listening to his compilation "Das Capital" which contains lots of his classic works revisited in interesting ways (full orchestra.. harp.. etc.) It is superb and a great introduction to Luke and the Auteurs if you haven't yet had the pleasure...

  • ...when it's not about you! ;-)
Ah, I remember the Auteurs, I got the first album. Didn't know they were still around though... Even went to see them, in London. Dunno why I lost interest really; probably when thinking "now, what's this albino git on about?" after hearing a track about somebody's new girlfriend...lol

It's a fine line between being a bitter, bitching lyricist and a good one, Luke. It's a bit sad when you are inspired to write a song about people you don't even admire or like, I think. Hope sarcasm isn't the only thing that drives you these days.

Still, you've made us chuckle. Ah, popbitching! You gotta love it.
I've just read a Guardian article entitled "Why don't U2 dismantle?".
Gosh: lol! ageing rockstars: they don't have it as easy as you think!

And if some people think Bono isn't relevant anymore...Cough. (Oh shit I'd better shut up, here comes Morrissey with Nancy.)

  • as a fan of his, i dont think the song is about our beloved morrissey. haines has never had a problem name checking people in the past and i am sure he would not resist calling out moz if he felt it was warranted.
i am not sure why people would think the song is about morrissey unless of course you take the word 'meltdown' and figure haines is referring to the festival(that other people have hosted as well).
