I'm not sure if it was mentioned before, but Sanctuary Records is announcing the release of "I Like You" in early 2005.
Wasn't "The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores" supposed to be the next single?

"Having already produced three Top Ten hits in the UK, Morrissey’s next single for America, “I Like You,” will be released in early 2005."

  • This is good news, I Like You has quite a hook, I think it will do very well. It 'moves' more than Crashing Bores. I hope there will be a video (although I always hope for one). More importantly, I'm hoping for some good b-sides... can't wait to see the cover art (perhaps it will surprise us and be something we like).

  • This was a real good 'f'ing year! Yeah Bullsh*t Bush won the election, but 2004 has been the year of Morrissey. Not only with the critical accailm of YATQ, but the outstanding tours, the positive reviews, the musical references from groups like Franz Ferdinad, and Outkast. Over a stupendous year for the Moz and the die hard fans who put their $15- $25 dollars down to make it happen. I personally, didnt think that Moz would have made it as far as he did this year, even though I wanted him too. But I am happy he did. I just needed to say these words. Thanks to all the other fans for the support!!!

    Peace,
    Tom

  • Surely this is one too many singles off an average album. You've got to envy the heyday of The Beatles when every classic album was released independent of any classic singles they had to offer. Mozz, my man - give us something new to savour. Lord knows it would be the first time.

  • I have always loved "I Like You" and was surprised that it wasn't released sooner -- definately one of the most commercial tracks from YATQ. I think the production is very of the now and it will sound totally at home on KROQ and Indie 103.1. I can't wait to find out what the B-Sides are to be. Isn't Morrissey such a genius?! I just bought The Platinum Edition (despite having nearly all of the tracks already)and I really do think it is a great album. I can't think of another instance when an artist released so many quality B-Sides from one album. And to think there are several that aren't even on the Platinum Edition! This of course sets up the possibility that Morrissey will eventually release a box set of all of his B-sIDES. Can you imagine? I'm sure it would be like at least 55 tracks long. Radiohead and The Cure (who released an excellent B-Side collection last year) are the only artists I can think of that approach Morrissey in terms of quality B-Sides. Even though we all probabley own most of them, would it not be so breathtaking to have all of Moz B-sIDES/Rarities in one fabulous box set?

  • Good choice for a single - it seems to be much maligned, but in its Quarry version I think it's a great little pop song - energetic, catchy, with splendid vocals. Morrissey's choice of singles has been somewhat odd IMO, or at least the order of them. I think if 'Gang' had been the first single, a UK number 2 would have been highly likely, and a number 1 not out of the question. Three singles would've sufficed, methinks.

First single - 'First Of The Gang'
    Second single - 'Irish Blood'
Third single - 'I Like You'.

To me, this would have made the most sense.

He still needs a new band though.

  • Yep definatley even though i have all of them already. I bought the platinum edition so i wouldnt be adversed to buying this. I would do something with sleeve work though. I would love to go back to the days when we all anticipated who the next cover star would be. The interview would be a good idea. A brand new one with mozzer and the boys reflecting on the brilliant year theyve had. It could even be done from the fans via the sanctaury site where we submit questions for Moz and the band , what do you think?

  • I just read this on YATQ.net:

"I Have Forgiven Jesus - Out Now:
The fourth and final single from You Are The Quarry was released on Monday 13th December. Let's all go out and buy a copy and help make it a very Mozza Christmas."

So this is it? Fourth and final single?

What a shame he didn't pick Crashing Bores. Oh well.... Moz knows best, I suppose.

  • It's hard to see Morrissey managing another big hit, but if I Like you were played on radio 1 - and it's the type they might play - I like you could, possibly, take off.

Interestingly, I Like You is up among the top Morrissey solo songs exchanged on file sharing programmes. The rest are either big hits ("everyday" "first of the gang") or rare tracks ("born to hang" "melanie" (yes I know!)).

This suggests a lot of people have heard it, perhaps in a record store or whatever and have actually sought it out - it has that slightly catchy rhythm that tends to do well in the charts.

Anyway, just a thought. But if it is to take off, it needs a cool video!
