The NME Awards nominations are out and Morrissey is up for four (Best Solo Artist, Hero Of The Year, Sexiest Man and Best Dressed), while Morrissey-solo is nominated for best website! I may be wrong, but as far as I can see Morrissey and Morrissey-solo's combined nominations are only surpassed by The Libertines' (including Carl Barat's but not Pete Doherty) - corrections on a postcard please. Or even better, go to www.nmeawards.com and vote, just to make sure.

  • ...to Moz for his 4 nominations, and to David T for his. Both richly deserved.

  • SOLO is gonna win. We deserve it, but also, doing a quick analysis.

The Libertines site gets less traffic, less hits. And now with Pete gone, do "The Libertines" still really exist?

Muse fans are not as passionate as we are (nobody is) and they don't have the numbers we do.

People are not going to vote for the NME.com, because they are going to vote for a band they like or not vote at all. Plus quite frankly NME.com is not all that great. I say this because they miss a lot of news stories, for example, only capturing about 50% of the big Moz news, not to mention none of the small stories. Manchester Online (M.E.N.'s site) to name just one site is much better for Moz news.

U2.com is a paid site that costs $40 to join and has a limited amount of users because of it. This is SOLO's only real competition.

  • our messageboards may be riddled with cuckoos. there may be more police reports generated per capita of any fan website. our news section may have rumors perpetuated by hoaxsters who lack the decency to stop toying with the emotions of faint-heart fans. morrissey may not even like us very much.

but let's not forget that this place services the rabid fan that no other fan site has before or since! i've met interesting people here. i was able to arrange a trip to Boston in '97 to see my first morrissey show ever thanks to the tour listings. I baked in the sun at Coachella. i found out that Austin was canceled when the official site made no mention. i've bored people to an endless degree with my journal and in the old days, with my really bad singing. I've been to Bath, Las Vegas, and southern nevada as an indirect cause of this site. i was prodded to see the Las Vegas show when i probably would have otherwise just stayed at home and watch Law & Order re-runs.

so thanks, moz-solo, for helping us laugh at love...again.

Congrats David. Everyone should think back to pre Quarry, when Moz was in semi retirement.....

Back then this website was the only thing that kept the whole Moz bandwagon on the road and maintained the fans thirst for new information.

Now Morrissey is being more productive, this web-site is THE place to turn to as a fan and has a exceptional track record for breaking news.

The nutters on this site just add to the overall entertainment that Morrissey-Solo provides.

  • After all the odds & sods nme.com (and by proxy nme printed ed.?) pilfered from this site, it's the least they could do. I'm sure Morrissey will win in several categories!

Morrissey-solo is one of the most comprehensive websites I've ever seen -- surfing since '93. The undisputed heavyweight champion for me.

Granted, Quarry was pretty mediocre but First of the Gang is easily one of the year's best songs.

  • Great Job! I hope this site gets the award. A big thank you to the webmaster. If it was not for you David, we would not have known tour schedules in the past. MorrisseyMusic sucks and should take a lesson from this site. Keep up the good work!

  • Well done, that's fabulous, definitely deserved as well. This site is always up to date with the news & considering David doesn't get paid for doing it (must be a lot of work as well considering the amount of random information surfacing from all over the world that needs to be posted), it's a life-saver.

Morrissey deserves all of the nominations & if he doesn't win then i'm going to dribble on myself & refuse to read the NME ever again...maybe.

  • Best Solo Artist:

Definitely should be Moz. But, I don't see it happening. Ian Brown should get "Best Drunken Outburst At A Festival" for his heart-wrenching proclamation that 'Moz....has been....cancelled...blaaaahhhhh!'

    Best Website:

I do see this site getting the award, despite some of the Black EYES. Afterall, if you're responding to this story, how can you not feel this way? The NME nominates itself? That'll go good. That's like David Stern making a new award for best Commissioner in the NBA. David T., YOU are our MVP.

    Hero of the Year:

Will they take the sympathetic route and vote for John Peel? Ray Charles and Aaliyah seem to think so. Hey, what happened to Tom Cruise? Shouldn't he get it for saving that chick who crashed her car? What about Jet Li? Nevermind.

    Sexiest Man:

I don't know about any of these clowns, but MY vote goes for Peppermint Poundstone. PAUL could beat any of these guys, on HIS worst day. Even more so than 'Alan' Degeneres.

    Best Dressed:

You can't argue this one. Even those who despise Moz have to vote for him on this one. What?! Are you kidding me?! The man probably has Gucci dinner napkins. Uh...i'll have to get to Stalker Art on that one.

    WAR Moz-Solo

    ...and how?
  • FOUR nominations, is it? And they all doubted him during his Maladjusted years. The band wagon is all too attractive now, isn't it? I might add that the NME seem to have mastered the art of keeping up the pretence that they support brave new indie bands, but was it not Morrissey himself that first supported The Libertines, Franz Ferdinand et al? I belive it was...

Even though the content of Morrissey-solo.com is great. I really have to say it is the dedication of David T and the posting visitors that makes this site truly outstanding. Personally, I have made one single post(in the godforsaken year of 1999) about a newspaper that ran a short article on Bodyparts that Changed the World of Music. Morrissey's brain, or if it was heart (I can't quite remember), came in as the last one at number ten. However, I have visited the site pretty much daily before and since, and not a single time have I failed to be amazed of the zeal people show here, in the forums and on the main site. To all of you who have contributed a lot through the years, respect. You have made my, and other browsers life, more entertaining and hopeful. You really do deserve the price.

  • Moz shouldn't win best dressed man. In the last year he has perpetrated three crimes against fashion:

    1) He appeared on Jonathan Ross wearing a red blazer with grey slacks and consquently looked like a cross between Jack Hawkins and a Butlins employee.

    2) At Glastonbury he wore a highly patterned purple smoking jacket which resmbled curtian material perhaps used in a downmarket Paris brothel.

    3) The priest outfit was funny the 1st time but tiresome by the 100th time.

  • We have recently lost track of an endangered species that, it has been recently discovered, is quite unique, and valuable for ecological science. It was spotted, often en masse, on numerous occasions last year, exhibiting various mesmerizing display behaviours. It sports a jaunty protuberance on its head and appears in a blinding range of postures and colours, rather like a peacock. Unlike that bird though, this creature emits sounds, sometimes lark-like, sometimes lion-like with an extraordinary combination in between, which, when heard, frequently exerts an arresting, trans-dimensional effect. A few other animals are usually found tagging along, enhancing the sighting with their own sonic competencies. However, the species is generally more like a badger – some would even say a yeti – in its ferocious independence and regular disappearances without trace. Its manner of proud self-sustenance, its light tread on the earth, its charismatic communication abilities and effective championing of weaker creatures on its path, marks it out as superior and rare. Therefore it is of high priority to learn more about its exceptional way of life, and its direction, while optimum conditions and treatment to facilitate its ongoing contribution are under urgent consideration. While any reports will be welcome, a show by the special intelligent being itself would be more meaningful and beneficial, without which it will be difficult to envisage further progress. Even if at times it has seemed that the world won’t listen, this phenomenon has ‘best’ written all over it!!
