According to one Vh1´s "Bands Reunited" cable show staff member in LA the producers are cooking a Smiths reunion attempt pretty soon, i know it sounds impossible after all the rubbish between Moz and the band but this guys are taking all the risks, apparently the preparations are almost done (this guy is very close to the person in charge of planning the trip of the crew and equipment) and this guy has no benefit in lying to me. After the Frankie Goes To Hollywood reunion in the show i think that everything is possible!!!

i will be glad to see their attempt even if they fail to get them to play (like with Frankie).

  • They only bothered putting together these shows if they were sure they were going to get some co-operation from the band members.

I can't see either Morrissey or Marr getting involved which means you can look forward to Joyce and Rourke wittering on about their wonderful careers since the split.

  • If the Smiths ever reunite, it will be entirely on their own terms -- well, Morrissey and Marr's terms. That show makes a mockery out of the bands they reunite. Can you imagine that troll who hosts the show standing on stage and introducing The Smiths? Give me a break.

  • Why would anyone compare Frankie Goes to Hollywood with the Smiths?

Frankie Goes to Hollywood was one of the sleaziest bands ever in the 80s. They have no talent, really. The songs are completely forgettable. That Relax song is gross, and it is a giant joke.

  • i've said it before when this came up, and i'll say it again...

go for andy and mike first, they'll say yes, give insightful interviews and probably share unearthed memoribilia.

go to johnny second. he's going to say now, but he'll sit for an interview.

then hunt down morrissey like a dog. he won't say no, but that's because you won't even get a soundbite from him.

this formula will give you the footage you need to assemble a 30 minute segment.

you can credit eugenius as a producer. thank you.

  • Surely subject matter can not be that thin on the ground.
This 'reunion' crap is recycled just about every month.
    Cue the usual responses;

    1. It will never happen.
    2. Fingers crossed, you never know.
    3. This subject is shite.

  • The Smiths will NEVER re-unite. And why should they? There's enough Morrissey solo material which will stand the test of time and florish for EVER. There is no need for The Smiths re-union.

I love the Smiths but I think there is something a lot more personal with the solo stuff that often makes it more appealing.

Morrissey is far too clever for you lot, he'll see you coming a mile off and, by then, he'll have that sniper ready to give your backside a close shave and maybe, then, you'll stop doing those stupid, pointless, gossippy, utterly non-creative programs, eh? How about that?
So, yes, please, do try getting them together.

  • they need to give it up. at best, if they pulled enough material together to actually make a segment, the most it would accomplish would be firing up more hostility between moz and joyce, and provoking even more humorous slander from elitist fans on the internet. then again, perhaps neither of these two things is so bad.

  • As desperate as I am to see The Smiths reunite, I think I would rather see it NEVER happen at all, than on VH1.
There is something about The Smiths, one of the most influential bands of our age reuniting on the same show that reunited Vixen, that just doesn't work for me.
I find the shows entertaining, as they typically reunite groups that are one hit wonders, or at least groups who have pretty much moved out of the limelight of performing. The Smiths and Morrissey just don't fall into that category.
Simply put, the show is a novelty, The Smiths reuniting is the second coming for me. Far too holy and important to be sanwiched in between The 100 Most Totally Awesome Celebrity Haircuts and I Love 1976!
I don't even know why I'm worrying about. I think Eugenius had it right...they won't get more than a quick wave from Morrissey.

what if there was some form of reunion ? does anyone think they'd never hear a solo song again ?

  • Have any of you been to the Mrs. Shankly website? She has a clip of the first time they tried to reunite Moz with the rest of the Smiths.

All you hear is "Morrissey........Morrissey!!" whilst Moz walks into the Apollo ignoring them along with all the other paparrazzi.

    Classic!

    http://mrsshankly.homestead.com/files/mp3week.html

But I don't think she has the clip on her front page anymore, maybe if you email her.

  • After hearing the last Healers album I really hope Morrissey stays well away, Marr really has nothing new to offer him. The music Morrissey, Boz & Alain have been producing of late far outstrips Marr's modern output and we really could do without a rehash of past glories.
I'd like to be proved wrong but going on what Marr has released since '87 (barring the fantastic The The's Mind Bomb etc), the fire has long since gone.

When I mentioned the last sorry attempt at a reunion to him, he just looked embarrassed and said "yeah, that crashed and burned". Made no mention of another attempt! Although the poor guy did see more concerned about getting Spandau to reform...

  • I hope Mozz throws buckets of wet trash on the dipshits who are trying this. Neither Morrissey nor Marr wants to collaborate, and even if they did, a freakin' VH1 reunion is just laughable. They ought to reunite on their own terms, not the terms of a stupid, publicity-grabbing show.

Doesn't "Bands Reunited" try to get has-beens back together? The Smiths will never fall into that category.

"let's see, I'm going to drop my current band, get chummy with guys who sued me, and walked out on me, so I can sing my own songs like I have been doing for, hmmm, the last 18 years...yes, that sounds like a good idea...all so a TV channel that doesn't play my current videos can get ratings and advertising dollars...why have I waited so long for this opportunity?"

  • I am a Morrissey fan since Viva Hate. I discovered The Smiths after they broke up, sadly. However, I for one do not want to see them reunited. I know they were Brilliant, I LOVE their music, however, their time has past. And one cannot and should not attempt to resurrect the past. The Smiths Legend is secure, part of their mystique is the fact that they will Never re-unite. They are wise in doing so. As much as I and every Smith fan would like to see them Live, they cannot compete with their Legend, no one can. Look at The Police when re-united for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. I had waited for that moment all my life, and when it had come and gone I felt nothing but utter dissapointment. Leave well enough alone Johnny and Morrissey, you went out on top and you will always be there.

    Love ,
    JC
