Hilary Duff has defiled the ironically disastrous alcoves normally reserved for downtown New York’s finest assymetrical haircuts! In what can only be described as a painful fit of post-punk partying, Miss Liquid Ice spent Friday night asserting her hipster cred and spacing out to Joy Division at East Village inferno Lit. This only prepared her for Saturday night, where she graced the weekly Misshapes party with her DJ skills. (She played a lot of Smiths, we hear, and we bet she made friends with Queen Leigh Lezark. But did she use the bathrooms? That’s the real question.) So, um, what the fuck? How could bubbly clean Duff invade these smoke-filled, drug-oozing dens of indie sin? And, more importantly, what will Disney think?

On that note, all of you art students should probably head to Queens. Lizzie McGuire just killed your identity.

UPDATE: Our informants tell us that it’s worse than we thought: last night, the Duffster hit the Motherfucker brouhaha to catch Bloc Party before making her way over to Morrissey night at Sway. And then, she got a lifetime subscription to Spin and ate six pairs of legwarmers.

  • I still don’t know who she is, nor do I give one. Do I care if some nobody goes to a Disco and plays a few Smiths songs? No

Does anyone else (I cant speak for them)?

Can we stop posting about this watery tart please?

  • Great News!!! (Score:1, Interesting)

This is truly awesome!!! news. If Hillary starts publically identifying herself with Morrissey, maybe her fans will start buying Moz albums! I was SO bummed when IBEH didn't make it on TRL (trust me, I voted online a lot!!! - did you?), so maybe this will give the recognition he deserves among teens. That would be so awesome to see Hillary Duff open for him. It sounds like her musical tastes are pretty good, and if people on this site would give her a real chance, they would find that she rights really deep songs for a person of her age, with really catch hooks.

The pessimism on this board can be pretty heavy.

  • Oh no! Someone young who makes pop music that I cannot identify with likes my idol! They are idiots and below me and how dare they do anything except like usher and allow me to continue my crusade of moral superiority!

I shall now massage my ego by stating that they cannot possibly understand any of the complex meanings behind the songs, and are merely trying to be cool. I see through it though!

I think that most of the people on here who are down on Duff for enjoying Morrissey and other good music probably have inferiority complexes.

Does anybody here know Hilary Duff? Do any of you know what she's like as a person? No, you don't. You know her by the characters she plays, if that, and if you know her by the characters she plays, you're a closet fan, and are probably hating yourself for that and are taking your anger out on yourself on her, which is quite sad and unfortunate.

Leave the poor kid alone. If she's into Morrissey at her age, she's probably pretty cool.

I'd bet that most of the people on here slamming her are doing so because they're envious of the fact that she got into the Smiths and Morrissey and a younger age than them, and that at some level they feel she has an edge on them for that. I think that probably the people here slamming her are probably the same age group, because to slam a person you don't know for liking what you like is a very very young thing to do!

  • I mean, give her some credit. I'm glad she even knows who The Smiths or Morrissey are. I remember when I was 16, most girls my gae didn't even know of them, and I'm sure most 16 year ols American girls today dont know them either. I'm sure Britney doesnt know of them.
I love her and thinks she has great taste.

  • For the odd straggler who still begrudges the girl called to ‘come to the Palms and be yourself’, when she is only demonstrating some musical class, some generalizations about an insular subset of persons to whom she compares favourably in this story! - (just to throw a spanner in the works...)

Why Men are Proud of Themselves
    1. We know stuff about tanks.
    2. A 5-day trip requires only one suitcase.
    3. We can open all our own jars.
    4. We can make decisions without a support group.
    5. We can leave a motel bed unmade.
    6. We can kill our own food.
    7. We get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness.
    8. Wedding plans take care of themselves.
    9. If someone forgets to invite us to something they can still be our friend.
    10. Underwear is $10 a three-pack.
    11. Three pairs of shoes, that’s more than adequate.
    12. We don't have to clean the house if the meter reader is coming.
    13. Car mechanics tell us the truth.
    14. We can sit quietly and watch TV with a friend for hours without thinking "He must be mad at me."
    15. Gray hair and wrinkles only add character.
    16. We can drop by and see a friend without having to bring a little gift.
    17. If another guy shows up at a party in the same outfit you just might become lifelong friends.
    18. Your pals will never trap you with: "So, notice anything different?"
    19. We are not expected to know the names of more than 5 colors.
    20. We are totally unable to see wrinkles in our clothes.
    21. The same hairstyle lasts for years-maybe decades.
    22. We don't have to shave below the neck.
    23. A few belches are expected and tolerated.
    24. One wallet, one pair of shoes, one color, all seasons.
    25. We can do our nails with a pocketknife.
    26. Christmas shopping can be accomplished for 25 people on the day before Christmas and be done in 45 minutes

  • It never ceases to amaze me how ignorant and prejudiced people who visit this site can be. Does it really matter if Hilary Duff like Morrissey? No - it doesn't, in fact good on her for having good taste. I'm 30, but didn't discover Morrissey until I was 17. I suspect this is the case for a lot of people.

Get a grip - you can like Morrissey as well as The Cure. You can like Morrissey and Hilary Duff. Hell, you can even like Morrissey and the Wiggles if that's what makes you happy! Good grief, do you really think Morrissey gives a shit who likes him and who doesn't. Of course he doesn't. At the end of the day, he probably cares about making good music, having a life and making money!!

There is nothing sadder than a bunch of try hards who due to lack of imagination and character have to like everything and everyone that Morrissey does. Get over yourselves!!!

  • Is that she's yet another actress/celebrity putting out shitty records. Music is sacred and shouldn't be touched by these people. Know your place, bitch. She's kinda like Britney meets J-Lo. As long as she doesn't COVER a Moz song everything will be alright. Her massacre of "Our Lips Are Sealed" was quite enough.

  • she's hot.

Call me pitiful and petty and and sexist and rude and a propogator of run and mis-spelled and mis-shapen sentences -does it matter?

Kids are going to like the Mozzer; we were all kids once and we all discovered him and we all saw friends discover him as well (and we all, admittedly, sat with smug faces knowing that we knew of him first). But come on, good music doesn't die or appeal to only one generation -if you really believe this, then you (or at least most of you)should also never listen or 'understand' Bowie, VU, Dylan, Shostakovich, and on and on and on.

Be happy that there is still an avenue for young people to find something meaningful important.

  • Why the hell do people hate her?
She's a singer! She's not the anti-christ or working for a terrorist organisation. So she likes Moz, so what? I bet theres an electriction out there that likes moz as well, probably an acountant and a nurse as well so why pick on her just because she doesn't make the sort of music you like to listen to?
Sure you can argue all you want about how fake she is cos she's a teeny pop star, but christ that argument has been going on for years and years about so many people, so get the fuck over it and let her like who she wants to like, you should all be proud that Moz is bringing in a new generation of fans.
