Morrissey feature from today's Sun (UK)

There's a small review, a very small side panel named "The Lowdown" and an interview, by Jacqui Swift

After 25 years as one of our greatest and most iconic singer/songwriters, Morrissey is still at the top of his game with Ringleader Of The Tormentors, his amazing eighth album. It was inspired by Rome, the city which has given him a new perspective on life. Here, the former Smiths man reveals why he moved to Italy and how he finally got to work with T-Rex producer Tony Visconti and acclaimed composer Ennio Morricone. He also talks about finally getting used to being an icon and why he thinks The Smiths should have continued but that his solo work is his best ever.

Update: 04/01 17:38 GMT: Mike posted on the general board the link to the interview on the Sun site:

  • ...don't you think?

Interestingly he changed his style knowing it was the biggest selling, but right-of-centre and stupid, paper in the UK and his answers seemed all the more informative for it.

"The Sun is vile" Morrissey - 1994.

Times change, and in this case for the better.

  • As Uncleskinny seems to have FINALLY retired his steam-powered scanner I have dusted off my Box Brownie and taken a few snaps of The Sun Moz content.
The results are roughly the same, I think you'll agree.
I think skinny has played down the significance of this coverage in the UK's biggest selling newspaper.
Given The Sun's right-wing bias, Morrissey, as he has been in the past, would normally be a target for their vitriol, particularly given his recent anti-war stance, where-as, today he was given nearly three pages of coverage, all of it positive, including a glowing 5/5 review.
The Sun is a scummy rag, but it's read by people who don't have the time or inclination to spend two hours or more reading a broadsheet.
Broadsheets are bought by those who equate someone's intelligence, or political affiliations, by which newspaper they read and are simply a prop to gain or maintain credibility amongst other pseuds and phoneys.
As we know, the owner of every newspaper is a stooge for one political party or the other, or, of course, vice versa, so the actual "news" is heavily biased, depending on where the owners affiliations lie.
So if you just want to spend 10 minutes or so reading the sports/football news and showbiz gossip, and get a quick overview of what's currently considered important news, I suggest you buy The Sun, even though they are scummy homophobes.
There's always a fly in the ointment.

  • The best thing about this news is that skinny didn't attempt a scan of the interview on his prehistoric scanner LOL

  • Some of these quotes are stolen from other interviews he's done recently. Especially some of the non-English language ones. Notice they don't claim it is their interview.

The Sun and magazines like Hello are notorious for this.

  • I went out and bought the Sun at about 9PM for this! I guess that makes me a Morrissey-Media whore in a strangeway.. but anyway, I actually think the piece seemed to be all done nicely, a large segment like that in a mainstream newspaper like The Sun can only do good for Morrissey, so I am definitely pleased with it.

I watched that Chart Show tonight on Channel 4, the Koko show.. The sound quality for all bands was pretty naff (especially the normally ace lead singer Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs who sounded so weak here because of the venue sound), but it pleased me even moreso that I thought the two shown performances by Morrissey were brilliant. They really made a good job of showcasing Morrissey as the big main event of the program, with You Have Killed me and Far Off Places..

I'm one of the stayers waiting for the album, but just couldnt resist getting a preview of Far Off Places here, and it was fantastic! The lyrics are brilliant in my opinion, I thought the whole song sounded really strong, awe-inspiring. I'm so excited for the release now. You Have Killed Me did sound quite different, the instrumentation wasn't as complex in places, the drum rush wasn't as organised, but it was all still very good. Morrissey's voice was something to be marvelled at, in places I got goosebumps listening to it. I hope it's as lush on record as it was here. Excellent.

  • Very mixed emotions when I read about the 'new Morrissey'; I can't quite put my finger on the reason, but I feel slightly deserted.
