'KILLED' SOFTLY WITH HIS SONG - Kindred Times (Reuters / Billboard)

Morrissey earns his first No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot Singles Sales chart, as "You Have Killed Me" (Attack/Sanctuary) opens in pole position. Morrissey‘s highest ranking on this chart until now was the No. 4 posting of "Irish Blood, English Heart" in May 2004.

Such an esoteric song would make it to #1 in a country with so few intellectuals.

    *sigh*

If Moz did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.

A: only people on this newsboard would bitch about Moz getting a number 1 instead of being happy about his success.

B: this chart is about single sales only and not air play. So if you have enough devoted fans purchase the single in a country where there is not a huge singles market, you will do well on this chart. Ex: every depeche mode single gets #1 on this chart eventhough that single generally will not crack the Hot 100 Single Airplay chart.

C: This new album is not my favourite but i'm not going to bitch and complain that it gets the top spot in the new UK chart while YA or Vauxhall or whatever did not or did not sell as much either. jackasses.

  • well, let's calm down a bit. it's a god job getting into no.1. i'm very glad for morrissey
and we all know chart potitions have nothing to do with quality of the songs. i agree with you that this new single is not one of his best and a bit too mainstream (he has done som crappy singles before too, sing your life, pregnant for the last time...) if the father who must be killed had entered at no. 1 it would have been much better. that's old fashion mozzer to me.
