There's a story in today's Manchester Evening News about Moz bigging up those marvellous Mancunians The Courteeners on KCRW Radio....

  • I share a surname with Liam. I'm tracing my family tree right now, just in case there's a way that it can help me get closer to Moz !

  • The entire Courteeners Lp is rad. Every song. Yeah, its typical BritRock, but since it has soo many great guitars in it, it makes it almost poppy. Dunno, I love it. Moz picked a good song of theirs but, I'd of gone with "Acrylic".
Any news on them coming out to L.A. soon? Oasis will be touring the states in the winter time, this would be an EXCELLENT opening band. They got the tunes and are still unknown over here.

  • Why does M.E.N. keep using that photo? It's taken from an odd angle at an odd moment and M. doesn't look anything like himself.

  • I think the Courteeners are a terrible band. Totally unoriginal in their aping of the libertine's sound, the arrogance of oasis, and with totally uninspiring lyrics to boot. I really can't understand how anyone likes them yet I suspect Moz's endorsement stems a lot more from the fact that they share a record label than his genuine enthusiasm for them. I was unconvinced by his account of going to see The Courteeners on the recommendation of a 'friend' (a friend within his record label more likely?) and found it baffling to hear someone who is so adept with words only offer a wholly bland opinion on the band ('strong' with great 'pop melodies'?!).
I just didn't feel that the passion was completely there in the endorsment, and honestly do think it could be more of a case of Morrissey agreeing with the record label to use his name and influence to try and give a young band a bigger audience and a lot more credibility.

  • which really only goes to proove that Morrissey is not the man he once was. In the 80's he'd have called them 'unlistenable tosh'because they are a terrible band.
you silly old man...me thinks it's time you got off the stage.
