From the forums (original post):

Today's Irish Times reports that Morrissey has been nominated in the category of Best International Male along with Michael Bublé, Jay-Z, Paolo Nutini and Bruce Springsteen.

The list of performers tells you pretty much all you need to know about the caliber of the event...Florence & The Machine, Westlife, Pixie Lott, Paolo Nutini and The Script.

Unfortunately there is no chance to vote online for Mozzer's category. See the following..

  • Well-deserved. When will The Grammys wake up and nominate him?

  • The choices are sort of all across the music map. Hope Moz will easily rise as the cream of the crop.

Raising my glass to you, Moz, the handsomest of the bunch!

And my pick for Best International Female: Lily Allen.

  • To me, it doesn’t matter if Morrissey wins (although I would Love to see him win). I however think that it is Huge that he was nominated. Out of all of the singers, they chose Morrissey.

Which means, he is getting the recognition that he deserves, in my opinion, over anybody else mentioned in this Irish Awards which is being shown on TV on February 21st.

I want more than anything for Morrissey to win, but then … Just him being nominated causes me to be even more happy and excited for him.

I mean, realistically, this is a high, high compliment to Morrissey and rightfully so.

  • do candidates have to "accept" their nomination and be prepared to turn up if they win? Or did the Management arrange it?

Or is the winner decided and the other candidates padding?

  • ... this is the most meaningless award ceremony in Europe if not the world - nothing but a money-making exercise for its sponsors and its organisers (moreso than other award shindigs). The 'judges' that pick the categories are clueless idiots. For example, Snow Patrol's BEST OF is up for an award!!!!

I would actually prefer Moz not to win this award, it's a bit insulting if he does. Can you imagine his acceptance speech being played while hordes of orange-skinned teenage girls look baffled and shout for Paolo Nutini.... ugh. Don't go, Moz.

  • I love Morrissey with all of my heart. But, being an Irish awards ceremony, one would excpect to see Irish talent nominated. I'm sick to death of seeing this band overlooked:
