"Mozipedia" wins MOJO readers' poll - Best Book (2009)

Simon Goddard's "Mozipedia: The Encyclopeadia of Morrissey and The Smiths" has been voted Best Book (of 2009) in the annual Mojo magazine readers' poll.

It received the most votes, ahead of Nick Cave's "The Death of Bunny Munro", Peter Hook's "The Hacienda: How Not To Run a Club", Will Hodgkinson's "The Ballad of Britain" and "The Velvet Underground: New York Art" by Johan Kugelberg.

The full results of the poll are in the new March 2010 edition of the magazine, which is in the shops shortly.

    I was surprised that there wasn't an entry on Jo Slee, given how instrumental she was in the design/layout of The Smiths and early Morrissey sleeves. I'm sure her inclusion wasn't an oversight. But why?

Well done Simon. Excellent book; invaluable, informative, interesting and entertaining.
A second edition must surely follow. It would be great for him to team up with Stephane from Passions Just Like Mine and Flax from Vulgar Picture for a full-fat discography :)

to end, it's a must have for anyone who'se into The Smiths and Morrissey and Goddard did

Judging by what people are saying, this sounds like a worthwhile read. Has Moz panned this one yet? Over the years it seems as though he's established a pattern of hating everything anyone says about him.

It's a great read, but what is the author's problem with 'Roy's Keen'. He sets aside a whole inset box just to slag it off (as, bizarrely, he does with 'Papa Jack'). Just because Morrissey hates 'Roy's Keen' doesn't mean that Goddard has to hate it too. We all know that Morrissey is sometimes the worst judge of his own music. In a 1997 interview with the NME (or was it Melody Maker?), he slammed 'Pregnant For The Last Time', and few could dispute that that song is a nailed-on classic.

  He slammed a song that he himself released as a single, then revisited it as a live b-side a year later? Surely that wasn't just done by the record company without his consent?
