As of 2/28/10 Years Of Refusal has sold 77,410 copies in the U.S. according to Soundscan. 4,538 of those were vinyl and 19,753 were digital.

In March 2008 we found out these other sales #s.

I realy thought there would be more digital albums sold, since we were practially forced to buy the album to get good seats for the Swords tour... maybe those do not count?? On the other hand, I just waited and bought my concert tickets after the presale, so I never got the digital album (I prefer to be albe to touch my music) so maybe a lot of others did the same...

  • As for YOR, I bought 2 digital copies (I bought tix for 2 shows), 2 regular cds (one for me and one for a friend), 2 limited editions (same reason as regular), 1 Korean Import (no extra tracks by my wife wanted the lyric sheet), 2 vinyl copies (1 from amazon that I ordered after my local regular appeared to not be able to get it, but since I'm a man of my word I bought the one they finally got it) AND I bought a signed copy from the Eagle's Room show.

I take it you've never bought a chocolate bar just because you were feeling a bit peckish, instead choosing to send the money to the starving millions? I take it you're currently working in a soup kitchen, using your uncanny psychic powers to post pointless comments on this forum?

  • Not too far off 100,000 for someone who is as obscure as Morrissey is in the United States thats pretty good. You ask the regular person in the street who Morrissey is or even The Smiths and 99% of the time they will not know. So to manage those numbers in the US is pretty amazing. The big sellers in that country are people and acts like Carrie Underwood, Nickleback & The Black Eyed Peas...I'll not post my thoughts on them but it's safe to assume Morrissey isn't exactly falvour of the week.

I don't mind so much. It's also important to note that there seemingly was zero promo for anything aside from the tour dates.

An album that no one knew about from an act no one knows about sells 77,000 copies. Not too shabby...

The last two anonymous posters are correct. The music industry and the standard way of charting popular music "ain't what it used to be.." And not for the better. The fact that our man can do so well in such an environment as the present one as he is now 50 years old (and really...WHY should we be ageist??) speaks volumes...
Seriously...i'm WAY more excited about seeing Morrissey live than seeing the likes of say, James Blunt, live.

  • Refusal has some very good songs on it. In fact, there's a few on there that I would say are some of the best Moz has penned in the past decade.

Finn did an excellent production job, but whoever mastered the album needs to be fired. Can't believe the record company actually let something that sounded so horrible get released!
