The Smiths come out to watch The Drums on their UK tour - NME.com Three quarters of of The Smiths came out to see The Drums play as they toured the UK this week. The iconic band's frontman Morrissey went to see the US group play last night (March 31) at The Old Blue Last in London. Meanwhile a night earlier The Smiths' bassist Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce turned up at The Drums' show at the city's Deaf Institute venue. "It's always cool when people we respect come out to our shows," frontman Jonathan Pierce told NME.COM after his brush with the majority of The Smiths.

Yeah... Mike is pretty good. A bit straight-forward, but good. It's the animosity between him and Moz that I think would keep The Smiths from ever reuniting. And seriously? Please! DON'T. The Smiths were so of the era that I think any reunion could only serve to taint the legacy. The Smiths are legends because of the songwriting, yes, but also because they were like a gasoline fire. They burned hot, and fast. It was all over in the blink of an eye in the grand scheme of things. To try and revisit that, that wonderfully tangible sense of living on the edge, the desperation, the heart-sick mania, would be a grave disservice to all concerned.
That being said, if it does happen? Do it at some no name pub as a one off. Shock the hell out of the people there, and never again. Further the legend. Don't shit on it.

"CULT singer Morrissey was just another face in the crowd when he turned up to a secret gig at a venue in Shoreditch.
The former The Smiths frontman was one of just 200 punters who turned up to The Old Blue Last in Great Eastern Street, Shoreditch, to watch American band The Drums on Wednesday March 31.
Russ Tannen, events manager at The Old Blue Last, said: "He was definitely here. Its not an April Fools. He was just hanging out with the people watching the band and looking very dapper.
"Boy George was down here too but they were not together. We often get a lot of famous people coming down as audience because we get big bands playing intimate gigs here.
"This is off the back of a reputation of us getting very big acts before they do the big gigs."
Morrissey followed in the footsteps of his The Smiths bandmates, three of who saw the same band perform on Tuesday night in Manchester."
