Russell Brand's Guide to Threesomes, Pissing Off Christians and Breaking Up Oasis - Rolling Stone

Excerpt:

...But a lot of my heroes are like Morrissey, guys who soberly and gingerly retire to a room and roll their eyes at the TV set.

But that's the exact opposite of what you became...

Yeah, I know, that's extraordinary isn't it? The reason I love Morrissey is because he's the beautification of nerdy incompetence. "If I don't leave my room what will people say? What will they think of me?" Morrissey became the apotheosis of that, bursting out of that bedroom a hero.

...

Was there a moment in your career where you just said, "Fuck it, I'm going to go with this over-the-top persona''?

To be honest, we have to return to the Morrissey point of earlier. There's a message I'd like to convey to misfit kids everywhere: There comes a point where not fitting in and being odd and peculiar suddenly turns to your advantage. The whole burden of it is almost mythological, when you are saying, "Oh, I just want to be like everyone else, I just want everyone to like me, I just want to be normal." But then, in time, your curse becomes your blessing. To quote a movie: It's a matter of releasing the kraken! Don't conceal the kraken! It's your greatest weapon.

  • Russell Brand hasn't had an original thought since he emerged into the public eye. He really is tedious. If he would quit talking about Morrissey, he quite possibly might disappear. If only . . .

      • I think it is the other way around. I call people like Russell Brand cling-ons. He has found a megastar who can tolerate him and okay perhaps even like him, and he hitches his wagon to him for publicity. Think about it. Would we be talking about Russell Brand right now if not for Morrissey? Every time Russell mentions Morrissey we have this discussion. We get it - he loves Morrissey. That is the only positive thing I can say about him. We all love Morrissey on this website (well, most of us), so he's not going out on a limb there either. I think Morrissey is amused by Russell Brand, and that's fine because I just want to see the boy happy.

  • It's great that Russell talks of his love of Morrisey. It's a very positive thing.God Bless Morrissey for his beautiful songs and God bless Russell for making us laugh. And boy, that Russell makes me laugh. The world would be a boring place without our Moz and Russell. Those of you on this web site that slag off Morrissey and Russell, well you are so so jealous of them. That's plain to see.

  • He's right in what he's saying. If you're weird, different or whatever then you should embrace your circumstances. It's different people that stand out and make a difference in the world and they're the one's that are generally successfull. Who the fuck wants to be normal anyway? I think it's so called normal people that's fucking this world up. And it's like Moz said on Importance of Morrissey film that "You can be hard on yourself when you're younger but now i think everyone's absoloutely mad"

  • wasn't he fired?or the talkshow he was the leading, kicked him out?

I think his carreer has had his top, it's going
down and take every little job what pays his bills.

His current project will be his last hope for
being in the spotlights for another few years,
or a return as talkshowhost or another silly
commercial tv show, a gameshow prolly
