  • Those were the days...when Moz had a half decent band of musicians supporting him.

  • where yhey jamming, sorta, eh?

Alain looks relaxed, and life in LA seems to
    be more likeble than London.

Hope he his frienndship and working with Morrissey is still as it was , you'll never know
    now HE lives in France.

If there comes a new album or a tour, Alain back
    on stage would be great

Always was/am on Whyteside ,dunno why, so this is a treat, thanks

Hope the whole part [in the future?] will be avaible for me as mainland european, or is this it?
Anyway good to see Alain releaxed and in good
shape, as I mentioned 3 times

  • Alain Jesse (Score:1, Insightful)

Jesse has been in the band for six years now and has contributed absolutely nothing -- dirge pop singles which could have been written by Alain in his sleep. Not to mention his horrid guitar tone, which may have felt refreshing and exciting in 2004 but has grown stale over the course of the tours.

Over the past couple years, Alain has expanded musically. He has collaborated with many different artists with varying musical styles. He no longer needs Morrissey as much as Morrissey needs him.

Simply put, an album full of Boz and Jesse songs would be the final nail in the coffin. Boz's last good moment was "I'm Playing Easy To Get." Jesse's last good moment? I'm afraid there never was one to begin with.

  • Alain Whyte is one of the most important musicians of this or any generation, and his work will be revered for decades to come. He changed the course of musical history. If it hadn't been for Alain, Morrissey's career would have been over ages ago.

    • While I agree with you on Alain's importance, I unfortunately think that the world won't pay him nearly as much respect as he deserves. Because Morrissey is technically a solo artist, I don't think he will achieve the 'revered' status as Johnny Marr, who was just as much of the Smiths as Morrissey was. Especially since Morrissey has worked with several composers, not just Alain. It opens people up to being able to pick their favorite, whereas in the Smiths it was just Johnny writing the tunes.

The best replacement for Alain would've been Lil' Barry Codgan and Morrissey knew it! but he hired Jesse to appeal to his Latino fan base and he and the lads thought he could bring something new to the band. He brought something new indeed...mediocrity!

  • Alain is a superlative songwriter but Jesse Tobias is just Jesse Tobias...a guy who was unemployed and answered to an ad of someone looking for a guitarist.

  • I'm laughing at how many of you are using Jesse as a scapegoat now that the old order has been replaced. It's a predictable human story.

Alain has been criticized ruthlessly since the release of "Southpaw Grammar," and up until his disappearance. Now he's a musical hero. Instead of placing the blame for the musical blandness on the boss, where it belongs, people simply pick on the new guy.

The reality is, they both have produced rather unremarkable material in the New Moz era, and that is likely due to Morrissey desiring less melodic templates to build his vocal melodies around.

He wants it simple, and predictable. It's easier to build songs that way, and he's now churning them out at a insect-like pace. Who knows what Jesse could come up with if he was given greater freedom.

  • Sorry, but let me burst the bubble that anyone with a few years of guitar lessons have the technical knowledge that Alain has. That being said, i don't think Moz has met THE one yet. The closest was...yes..Stephen Street..on the bass. Although, to be truthful, I find that Boz has contributed an amazing amount of great material. What do I know? I'm just a musician.

Have some consideration for the fact that there may be young people reading this site that would be offended and/or parents of young people who would not be happy to have them read this sort of thing.
