Setting Fires is a collaboration between two veteran songsmiths, Alain Whyte and Mat Devine. Alain Whyte is best known for being Morrissey’s main songwriter from 1991-present, and his lead guitarist for over 13 years. Mat Devine has been the frontman and principle songwriter for alternative rock group Kill Hannah since 1996. The two of them met in the summer of 2009 during a rare pocket of free time, and started to experiment on writing songs together without any plans of recording in mind. The chemistry between Whyte and Devine was instantaneous and they started writing song after song, realizing that this was not something to push aside. During that week Setting Fires was born. Quickly assembling a powerful team to record the EP, they called in Dean Butterworth (Good Charlotte) to play the drums, Davey Julson- Rieley to produce, and Joe McGrath (AFI, Green Day) to mix the songs and add some finishing touches. The final result is more than they ever expected...

  • I desperately wanted to like Alain's new project- the music is good, but I can't stand Mat Devine's vocals. Totally killed things for me. Sorry, Al.

Well, there is some great stuff there. Alain
is a genius - always has been and always will be.

This shows a hell of a lot of promise, which is more than can be said for 100s of bands these days.
