LATE NIGHT, MAUDLIN STREET - Ecouterre

Designer Ashton Hirota was thrust into the role of fashion stylist when he became annoyed with how other people were handling his garments. Taking that lateral leap allowed Hirota to continue to dabble in his own designs while dressing musicians such as Fergie and the Black Eye Peas, Regina Spektor, and Panic at the Disco.

At The GreenShows at New York Fashion Week on Monday, Hirota paid homage to another music idol—Morrissey—by invoking the British singer-songwriter’s dour, dry wit, along with bondage symbolism and military influences.

To set the moody tone, celebrity makeup artist James Vincent directed his team at Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics to accentuate the model’s faces with shadowy hues and somber liners, while embellishing their skin with brightly hand-painted tattoos. The finished look was an ominous horizon of cumulonimbus clouds, punctuated by the occasional glimpse of clear sky.
