Re: Strange/unexpected Moz references?

It's there now - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00tv70y

He thought Moz was amazing, as well as difficult and contrary. Thinks Moz is one of the most intelligent people he's ever met.

But that tongue of his is sometimes a noose...

He said that the article was a fair reflection of the interview.

  • With pride of place awarded to his opinions on someone he previously looked up to and may have envied and depended on, emotionally and mentally, and with his last word influencing the life of his erstwhile muse, Mr Armitage is no Ms Armatrading...

    Imagine this!

Moz has created a fanbase of sycophantic lemmings. I love his music but his choice of words was crass. Once you lump together a whole group of people like 'the Chinese' or 'blacks' or 'Jews' or 'Pakis' or 'queers' you are getting into very dangerous territory. The history of how Chinese migrants were treated in countries like the UK and the USA is a pretty shocking one - read your history books. Moz is an intelligent man, he should know better.

  • Think about it folks: some Chinese people are bad, therefore all Chinese people are bad. That's basically what he said. It's the logic of Mein Kampf. I'm no fan of the PC police, but I for one am glad that society has advanced to the point where people can't get away with speaking such garbage without being taken to task. It's called progress.

I love Moz, love the Smiths, but when I read that comment in the Simon Armitage interview it made me cringe with embarrassment. Hitler was a vegetarian who cared about animals. Does that make him a better human being than the average carnivore?
    Anonymous -- Friday September 24 2010, @11:11AM (#356912)
  • From wikipedia:

There was widespread support for animal welfare in Nazi Germany and the Nazis took several measures to ensure protection of animals. Many Nazi leaders, including Adolf Hitler and Hermann Göring, were supporters of animal protection. Several Nazis were environmentalists, and species protection and animal welfare were significant issues in the Nazi regime. Heinrich Himmler made efforts to ban the hunting of animals. Göring was an animal lover and conservationist. The current animal welfare laws in Germany are modified versions of the laws introduced by the Nazis.

  • I thought Armitage reflected my own feelings on the issue.

He was disappointed that someone intelligent, and articulate, enough to know better than to make such a rash, if not racist, remark but that doesn't stop him loving Morrissey the artist.

  • The argument is generally long since lost when people start comparing things to Hitler and or Nazi Germany. The comment above pretty much just absolved Moz of any possible wrong-doing. LOL

  • Let's be honest, Moz is in danger of making himself a bit of a joke. He's rapidly becoming one of those elderly relatives who can always be guaranteed to say something a bit crazy and offensive. Quite entertaining though.

  • What a load of fuss over nothing.

Look out the window into the real world. See those people walking down the street? Do you think they give a toss what Morrissey says? Of course they don't. No matter how much we love him, the world in general couldn't care less.

There's more important things to worry about and if you had any experience of life (and death) you wouldn't be wittering on about those "really awful" comments that have thrown the world into such turmoil.

But I could be wrong and those Chilean miners are no doubt debating furiously Morrissey's racial views.
