  • A very disappointing chart placing, which means his last 6 releases have now all charted outside the top 40.

Ok, so 4 of those are re-releases, 1 collection of recent b-sides and also Something Is Squeezing My Skull! But still, things should have been better than this!

Who cares!! Those who really like him shouldn't be worry about charts. Those lists are usually full of garbage anyway. I don't value him for the number he is on the chart, if not for his songs and for being who he is. I just wish he did more promotion only because I like to see him and listening to what he has to say.

  • If "Bona Drag" charting place was disappointing and it is, what about JL album reissues? No a single one charted, even the "Double Fantasy Stripped Down"! I am more surprised by that.

  • So, exactly which group of loyal Morrissey followers was going to send Bona Drag soaring into the top twenty? Certainly not those who were there first time around (which I imagine is still a pretty large group)! Remember, Morrissey promised that the follow-up to Viva Hate was going to be an album of brand new songs entitled Bona Drag. Instead, the fans who bought all the supporting singles (Interesting Drug, Playboys etc) were rewarded for their patience with an album of all the singles they'd bought, plus all the same b-sides, plus Everyday is like Sunday and Suedehead from the previous album for good measure under the title of... yes, Bona Drag. I love the way that, in true Morrissey-style, he's gone and released Everyday is like Sunday (remember, initially released as one of the singles off Viva Hate) as his promo for a re-release of Bona Drag. Talk about rubbing it in! We still love you, Moz; the day you start treating your fans properly is the day we know we're in for it - when we'll start fearfully checking our windscreens for ominous messages or dreading the next postcard. Never let it come to that!

  • The recent remark about Chinese subspecies is still echoing in the ears of all those looking for reasons to hate Morrissey let alone those who support him. I personally agree with him, but am not so sure the world is ready for such honesty. Anyway, my point is, given that word appetizer, the release is bound to have less sales because he is considered "the bad guy" once again. I live in the U.S. and am trying to figure out how to get it NOW!

    Its really laughable

I wonder how many copies were sold then? I doubt he's made enough cash from this to even pay the remasterers.

What a flaccid performance of single and album. Maybe someone somewhere will get the message that even an audience as devoted as Morrissey's will actually draw a line in the sand. And say enough is enough. Stop indulging yourselves on our gullibility. Oh there's a recession going as well so I'd prefer not to spend my cash on frivolous rubbish (which I've already got!)

And a catastrophic error signing with EMI who have once again proven themselves to be completely out of touch with the modern music industry.

Or, as Rotten put it, Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?

  • This website is full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Maybe Moz cancelled those TV and radio appearances because he was will - he has battled with depression most of his life - maybe he just didn't feel like it. He's an adult, he can do what he likes. I am sure that to Moz the only album sales that matter are the sales of his next album. Let's hope he has one more classic in him before he retires...

  • This is less Morrissey's idea than the label who is struggling to make money. The music business is down on it's luck and they are bringing out old material because it's cheaper. They are doing what they can to survive.

But Morrissey certainly cares what position he arrives at with "Bona Drag". It doesn't matter if the material is old or new. I have personally heard him complain about chart positions. I am sure he got mid week numbers on "EDILS" and decided to pull out of something that he knew was not goign to be succesful. Typical promotions from EMI that he has been burnt on before.

Isn't that the whole point of remastering? To get things right?

  • I don't think it's just our Mozza. The whole UK pop industry has gone topsy turvy. Morrissey used to release proper good "pop" singles.....no more. It's downloads only these days. Gone to the dogs.

  • It really is time Morrissey listened to his own advice. He is becoming embarrassing.
Why on earth WOULD anyone buy an old compilation album filled up with a few out takes that he rejected as substandard 20 years ago?
His fleeing from the media tells it all, he is as embarrassed about this sorry mess as his fans are.
The fans have left you Morrissey. It truly is time to pack in and release a book or do something you want to do because you clearly do not want this life anymore.

    Get off the stage.

  • I'm surprised it got in the top 100. A re-release of an album of re-releases that everyone bought 20 years ago. Okay, there's a few outtakes thrown in, but we've all got them anyway. Come on Morrissey, let's get back to new material, stand alone singles and live dates.

  • Come on people. It's a re-release! They are largly looked at as just little gifts to the die-hards and/or a cash grab. To the casual fan and the general music buying public they don't get a look in at all.

Even a lot of the harcore fans around here have said many times over the years that they would not be paying again for material they already own. So, 67 is as good as it's ever going to get for these types of releases.

If you bought a copy and you enjoy it then be glad you have it. It's already done what it was meant to do.
