Manic Street Preachers wanted Morrissey for their new album

Nicky Wire's minor obsession with the Manic Street Preachers continues. On the Manics up coming album "Rewind The Film" the band have brought in some some guest to perform. Richard Hawley (another Morrissey link there), Lucy Rose and Cate Le Bon will all be lending vocals to songs. In this interview, James revels that there was one more artist that they really wanted to contact and ask to join them. That artist being Morrissey. James says that they couldn't make that phone call to Morrissey. They were just that scared and certain that Morrissey would turn them down. Pity really as it could have been a good opportunity. The Manics have one album out in September this year and another around March/April 2014.

Viva Meh: On Morrissey's Second Sustained Battle With Mediocrity - by Ryan Chang, The L Magazine

Excerpt:

On August 29th, I’m going to see Morrissey 25: Live, the Pope of Mope’s first concert film since Who Put the M in Manchester? On August 29th, I promise you, I will be disappointed, and not in an immediately direct way that compliments the Mozzer. I’m legitimately going to be disappointed, and I’m going to be totally OK with it. In fact, I think it’s going to strengthen my love for Morrissey. He’s just going through something—the second major artistic slump of his 25-year recording career.

Morrissey 25: Live: Film Review - The Hollywood Reporter
by Stephen Dalton

Remarkable singer marks quarter century milestone with unremarkable concert film.

Snippets...

The original performance began with an onstage introduction by Morrissey’s friend and cheerleader Russell Brand, a heartfelt eulogy which – bizarrely – has been cut from the finished film. Brand and other celebrity acolytes, including Patti Smith, are now glimpsed only fleetingly in an opening montage. This is a baffling omission, considering Brand is not just an eloquent orator but arguably more famous nowadays than Morrissey himself. But as we long-suffering fans know all too well, the Oscar Wilde of pop moves in mysterious ways.

Among the musical highlights are a clutch of Smiths classics. They include a scouringly heavy remake of Meat Is Murder, an angry vegetarian manifesto illustrated with hellish visual clips...
