The Smiths come out to watch The Drums on their UK tour - NME.com

Three quarters of of The Smiths came out to see The Drums play as they toured the UK this week.

The iconic band's frontman Morrissey went to see the US group play last night (March 31) at The Old Blue Last in London.

Meanwhile a night earlier The Smiths' bassist Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce turned up at The Drums' show at the city's Deaf Institute venue.

"It's always cool when people we respect come out to our shows," frontman Jonathan Pierce told NME.COM after his brush with the majority of The Smiths.

Q Magazine's The 100 Greatest Frontmen issue hits the shelves today, with 36 pages of exclusive new interviews, pictures, and essays from the 100 greatest singers, showmen, and performers that have defined the world of music. Housed in a special slipcase cover, swaggering Mancunian Liam Gallagher tops the countdown, voted for by readers of Q Magazine and users of QtheMusic.com. In the issue Kasabian’s Tom Meighan talks about his experiences with the ultimate rock and roll star, “He doesn’t come offstage and have a fucking back rub while he’s cuddling his pet poodle. The attitude stays.”

Elsewhere in the list Bono offers up his advice on being a frontman, Damon Albarn reminisces on the finest moments from his multiband resume, and Matt Bellamy shares his experiences at the helm of the Muse ship. Expect to see pioneers such as Morrissey, Ian Dury, and Kurt Cobain too.

Q also takes a peek inside the bedroom of Q's “best new frontwoman,” Florence Welch, an exclusive insight into the mind of the Florence and The Machine star, which is filled, as expected, with “ghosts and “sex monks” amongst a few other things.

Dickie writes and sends the scan:
I-D editor Ben Reardon: "Morrissey fans are the most dedicated fans in the world, ever. It's a fact of life. From Vauxhall to Camden, to Dagenham to Mexico to Munich from lazy Dykes to Alsatian cousins, ambitious outsiders, boy racers, ganglords, hairdressers, shoplifters, sisters, hooligans, lazy sunbathers...

“The Day I Met Morrissey is a close encounter of the most intimate kind, where fans the world over recount their up close experiences. Hero worship, a hobby, an illness, an obsession, whatever you call it, you can be sure that after all, some lights never go out.”

It states "His first official solo tour since the demise of The Smiths brought Morrissey to the SCR for a gig plagued by poor sound and distinguished by a cover of 'Trash' by the New York Dolls, as a tribute to Johnny Thunders who had died days before aged 38." Moz's setlist is reported as follows:

Mute Witness
The Last Of The International Playboys
November Spawned a Monster
Will Never Marry
Sing Your Life

Cigarettes went up to $7 last week. Shark attack claimed the toes of surfer in at the beach in Florida last week. Chanel No. 5 is still a hot item; Boucheron is still a better buy for guys. I've Got Friends by Manchester Orchestra is my top song around in Central Florida soft alternative, the group Snow Patrol comes in close second. Has anyone heard of Frank P. Geyer? He use to live from the mid-1800S in Philadelphia USA. Frank is like Paris in France if you like men; what happened? Pseudehead is another fantastic song. No Portishead here!
