yep, and clift NEVER got over it. it haunted him til he died that dean was so keen on him and tried to engage him in conversation, but he brushed him off as an amateur, and a stupid one at that. i suppose it was never far from his mind that he was never the same after his own accident (his face was practically torn off and required serious plastic surgery from a car accident - this is why he looks so drastically different and "wooden" in later films).
