Hot Press Review - "I Am Not A Dog On A Chain" (5 Stars out of 10)

Hot Press Review- review indicates great album but looks like lost stars for political views

MORRRISEY – I AM NOT A DOG ON A CHAIN- BMG
5 Stars/10
RESPECTABLE RETURN FROM
INDIE ICON ISN'T ENOUGH TO
ESCAPE BLACK HOLE OF HIS
POLITICAL VIEWS
Morrissey has a new album and fans are confused as to how they should
feel. I Am Not A Dog On A Chain is
solid late-period Moz, with robust
production by his latest ongoing
collaborator Joe Chiccarelli (Spoon,
The Shins, Tori Amos).
Buuuut there is still the sticky
issue of Stephen Patrick's well-
documented far right views. He
popped up on the Jimmy Fallon
show wearing a badge advertising
the For Britain party (headbangers
shunned by Nigel Farage for their
extremism). And he has accused
London Mayor Sadiq Khan of
being unable to "talk properly".
To all of this we can now add his
one-way feud with The Guardian, as
the
trumpeted by his new line of "f***
The Guardian" merch (an actual
thing).
How do you get all that out
of your head whilst grooving to
his thoroughly agreeable new
record, which Moz himself has not
inaccurarely hailed as "the very
best of me"? It's impossible which
is why, as a Smiths diehard, you
may undergo a succession of mild
out-of-body experiences as the top-
drawer jangle pop of Jim Jim Falls'
and single 'Bobby, Don't You Think
They Know?' washes over you.
His humour has weathered the
years, at least. "Time will mould
you and craft you," he croons
darkly. "But when you're looking
away it will slide up and shaft you."
That's the opening line to closer,
'My Hurling Days Are Done'. It's
in the rich Morrissey tradition of
wry dirges and we can always do
with more indie icons referencing
the greatest sport in the world.
But it's so very odd enjoying this
album knowing the opinions of the
increasingly marginalised figure
behind it.

We need someone to tell us how to feel! we need someone to tell us how to think!

Actually it sounds like a very ordinary album being reviewed by someone who wishes they didn't have to listen to it.

It's so very strange that having a feud with the Guardian is seen as an inherently bad thing, as if that one media outlet is the oracle of ethical wisdom.

What a bizarre time we are living through.

Still, further suggestions that there are some real gems on this album, unlike LIHS.

Hot press mean his 'badly documented 'far right' political views', that only very rubbish hacks can't get out of their articles.

Nigel shunned Anne Marie (not For Britain, which didn't exist yet) & Anne Marie was also once praised by Nick Cohen because she was On The Left, Moz slagged off Theresa May in the same interview that he slagged off Sadiq Khan, he's also been slagged off himself for not talking properly AND The Guardian has been denounced as a hotbed of transphobes.

Such a stupid, stupid review.

This is why pr exists. Because hacks spend most of their time regurgitating pull-quotes & recieved opinions.

I'm a journalist now guys!

PLEASE UPVOTE MY REVIEW!!!!!!1111

Morrissey has a new album. I give it 5 out of 10 stars because Morrissey doesn't eat meat and I love bacon. He also does a lot of that celibacy thing and I really like sex. He's also really really miserable and I like to be happy like Pharrell Williams. Oh and while I am at it.. I should spell his name Morrisey because i am good at journalism.

MORRISEY 5/10 stars.
I was going to give it 10/20 stars but he didn't deserve that many.

Oh yeah, the album is called I Am Not A Dog On A Chain but I call shenanigans because just last year he said he was Back On The Chain Gang! See how clever I am?

Morissey.. 5/10 stars.
Me.. 11/10 stars because I LOVED This is Spinal Tap.

So, if the ‘music journalist’ was able to
separate the art from the artist, then the review would be (as it should have been) based on the music on the album. So it would have been at least 8 stars out of 10, which isn’t bad.

:tiphat:

And it's not a 'one-way' feud with The Guardian. They sent tweet saying it was mutual ffs. ?

Maybe if 'Diehard The Smiths' fans in journalism did some basic research they might be able to enjoy his music?

Yes; no confusion here. In fact, all I’m confused about is why I was never asked—given the reviewer supposes to represent me.

They're separating the artist from the artist!

I've never seen anyone condemned so much for so little, with so many mitigating factors missed out & so many misleading interpretations mixed in.

Well, they’re not separating the artist from their misunderstanding of the artist.

Though its not Morrissey’s style to clear things up (as if he could or would be allowed to) and the media will continue making noise if it makes them a buck and reaffirms their readerships identities.
