Music News / Fiona Dodwell: "The unforgiving storyteller: Morrissey's lyrics remain as vital today as ever" (July 31, 2020)

"Morrissey's lyrics have become as much of a trademark as the iconic quiff he sports. Dry, critical, sneering and defiant, he has been pop's favourite, much-loved outcast for many years. His skills as a songwriter are highly revered, so today I take a look at his creative signature style, and examine exactly why we need his voice today as much as we ever did..."

FWD.

He's banned words like fake, reviled, liar from his version of himself.
Concocting his history to be a glowing one.
100% vile.

Has anyone here ever read one of her 'novels?'

Has anyone here ever read one of her 'novels?'

No, only some of the free bits on Amazon. It's not very good. But I do like this summary of one her books:

When Leighton Banks finds an extremely rare record at a music fair, he is thrilled with his find. However, after hearing the legends and creepy stories associated with the music, he beings to wonder if the record is cursed. Thrown suddenly into a dark world where even music can put lives and souls at risk, Leighton soon learns that he must find a way to put a stop to a centuries long curse, or become victim to it himself.

Whenever people prattle on about how the media treats their specialist subject, you can be assured they have very little to say worth listening to. It's one of those left wing/right wing levellers.

The Number 1 Morrissey apologist posts more trite bollocks.

The current list of Morrissey apologists:

1. Fiona Dodwell
2. Anne Marie Waters
3. Tommy Robinson
4. Morrissey's Band
5. Joe Chiccarelli
6. BMG
7. Chrissie Hynde

No you’re the apologist anon IP Hash d98ae3d84a.

In the thread below, you actually think
that some comments on politics Morrissey has made in the past are worst and more offensive than a gang rape that was possibly condoned by members of the band The Killers.

Hmm, calling your hero 'Leighton' is enough to put me off.

I simply love Fiona's articles on Morrissey.

She is passionate about him/his art as I am.

She represents me.

I'm getting a little bit sick of reading about her comments on Moz. If I want to know how great he sounds and how relevant his lyrics are all I need to do is put on a record, CD, or stream him.

She has a right to celebrate him in the same limited way again, and again. But I get the impression she feels she’s doing something more than that. It’s not easy on the eye.

I enjoy Fiona's frequent essays on Morrissey. They are quite bold.

Her last paragraph is exquisite - and very true.

I can't think of single other artist who "tells it like it is" like Morrissey has/does.
