Don't miss it. I can't think of a better way of spending 05 February 2011 in Belfast.

A fine review by the students in Cork about the band's recent visit:
"The tribute act is a unique facet of the music circuit and an art in its own right.

There is an element of theatre that is part of a great tribute performance, and many bands go the full length to emulate performance style, imitating behavioural nuances, choreography, wardrobe and props to accompany the set list replications.

On Saturday night, Dubliners These Charming Men graced Cyprus Avenue with their set of Smiths and Morrissey classics, and displayed a mastery of their art of imitation down to the gladioli in the back pocket and, somehow, Morrissey’s imposingly square jaw. These affectations, we suppose, are the authenticity that a dedicated fan would seek in such a production, and the running success of These Charming Men is a testament to this.

This band has been going impressively since 1995 and has clearly proven an adequate replacement for those waiting in vain for the Smiths to reunite.

The enduring quality of the repertoire will ensure their continued success, and when combined with the whole aesthetic of the performance, it makes for an entertaining experience.

How Soon Is Now opened the set, and though the Smiths had a short life, it was prolific and rich with the song-writing talent of Morrissey and Marr, and the set could be carried through without lagging to finish with There Is A Light That Never Goes Out. The Cyprus Avenue crowd lapped it up, and something bordering on Beatlemania began to set in with the lads up front, giddy with the urge to shake hands with the singer after each tune and settling for the hem of his garment in between.

While piling out all the favourites, the band found room in their set to dabble in some of Morrissey’s tunes, and the singer was flawless in pulling off the one-footed shuffle, the flat, sighing vocalisations and whipping the mic-lead, and, adorned in the tacky chain, thick-rimmed glasses and upward quiff, bore an uncanny resemblance to the man himself when he verbally abused a punter with bacon fries (I joke).

The guitarist navigated his way around the pedal board like a pro, and the delivery was pretty much flawless. The driving, upbeat Marr guitar parts complement Morrissey’s melancholy beautifully, and the band picked up on this essence well.

These Charming men are, curiously, one of a few tributes to Mancunian bands who pass through Cork regularly, and one of many on the circuit giving people the flavour of a performance which they would not otherwise be privy to. These Charming Men have an entertainment value that sets them above others who feel that simply wheeling out the tunes is enough (The Stone Roses Experience were disappointing last year) and receiving accolades from Morrissey himself tells you what you need to know about this Dublin outfit.

This Saturday coming, Daft Funk play in Cyprus Avenue and you feel that it will turn out many more than just the devotees.

P.S. To the man who gave his two spare tickets away at the door, if you happen to read this, thanks!"
