Just had a call from someone at gig.
So I can confirm the gig went ahead, Moz was on top form. Everybody's 'appy.

About halfway through the show Moz started singing to himself 'yankee doodle, ohhh yankee doodle'. Is this a reference to some thing? The gig was totally good all round and Moz on tip top form.

Moz looked great and sounded great but looked like a man bored with a tour!Came on with Sacha Distel picture held up to his face and said something like 'Hello Mouth of the Port'. Was a pretty solid gig. Morrissey was on fine form and very strong vocally and the band provided the musical part more than adequately. Wasnt as much talking from moz as usual, shown when he jokingly said "anyone got anything groundbreaking to say?" (well i guess this was in reference to his relative quietness but please correct me otherwise)

The only slight mark on an otherwise very enjoyable evening was the set list and the sound. Obviously we all know about the complaints against and arguments for the set list on this tour already but i will add my little bit anyway.

I like the new album, i really like it. I understand that this is a tour for the new album but do we really need all these songs from one album. Im not even asking for the usual suspects to be added back in ie: suedehead, edils if its that he wants to play some different stuff for a change but a few more 'obscure' ones and a few less new ones would do the trick i think. Could have done with a different closer as well i think(speedway, tialaingo etc) ibeh works better as an opener i feel.

The other niggly thing was that there was too much treble on the vocals imo but again nothing to ruin the evening.

The highlights for me were trouble loves me (which apparently only a few of us appreciated very much), still ill(which everyone seemed to) and life is a pigsty.

4/5 for me. Cheers moz!

I understand that you want to hear Moz play your favourite songs, but really it's an unfair thing to ask.

If you want to hear early Smiths songs done live, then you should've gone to see the Smiths in 1983/4. If you want to hear Queen Is Dead songs live you should've seen the Smiths live in 1985/6.

If you want to hear Viva Hate songs, then the 2002 tour was for you. If you want Kill Uncle songs, then clearly you should've seen him in 1991. Your Arsenal was played pretty much in full in 1992, so there was your chance to hear those songs. If you want some Vauxhall/Boxers songs then there was the Boxers tour in 1995. M

Many Southpaw songs were played on the Outsiders tour and the Japanese dates in late 1995. I'll admit that they're perhaps not the easiest gigs to get to, but the songs have been played!

If you want songs from Maladjusted then you could've seen him in 1997. If you wanted lots of rare songs and b-sides then there was the massive Oye Estaban tour in 1999/2000. And if you wanted to hear Quarry songs then you should've gone to gigs four years ago.

This tour is for the Ringleader album, so obviously that will be the vast majority of what's played.

Pretty much all the **songs have been played**! If you were unable or chose not to go to the gigs that they were played then that's unfortunate, but you've had a chance.

Unless of course you were unable to see, say, the Smiths in 1986 as you were too young/not yet born. But that, unfortunatly, is tough. I love the Beatles. However, I'm not going to sit hear and complain that I never saw the Beatles play in 1963 as I wasn't born for another 20-odd years!

To hear 'Trouble Loves Me' played so majestically seemed like fitting testimonial to life as a Morrissey fan back in 97 when some of us felt like (and probably were the only ones in the world).
Walking round Greenwich market as a 19 year old, on rainy weekends with 'Maladjusted' on my headphones.
Oh, nothing much changes...so little stays the same.

The Pompey gig was absolutely outstanding!
The man (and the band) are pure genius. Life Is A Pigsty was just out of this world!! I'm still buzzing now!

The old Smiths songs he sang was wicked.
I was soooooo lucky a few weeks ago to meet in person, none other than Andy Rourke yipeeee!!!!
We discussed many things, including Moz's solo work. Andy said that he was at one of Moz's Quarry gigs, and that The Smiths songs sounded odd! And I agree, but it sure is nice to the King sing them. The band seemed to make a pretty good job this time of The Smiths songs, where last time they did sound very odd?!

How Soon Is Now sound truely awesome!

I liked Moz's nautical references (being in Portsmouth and all - major historical maritime centre, if you didn't know).

When he came on he said to the audience "Avast, you swabs!" and when he introdcuded the band he said something about them being trapped on "HMS Mozzer". Sweet.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned these yet. Better than arguing about yankee doodle (which puzzles me - when during the gig is this supposed to have happened?...)

Oh, and during "At Last I Am Born" he threw in a "vegetarians note, at last I am born".

A good gig.

I'd never been to Portsmouth before and, as a London-based fan, it made a nice change to see Morrissey in a smaller venue rather than the cavernous monstrosities we generally get these days in the capital.

Good crowd in general, the only exception being the arseholes who thought it was funny to sing 'There is a Light..' between every song for a while. What on Earth were you hoping to achieve? Morrissey was starting to get seriously pissed off with it and thankfully it stopped when it did or I don't think we'd have seen an encore.

That was minor though overall. the songs were great, Morrissey's banter was funny, the band seemed very up for it, the Happy Birthday to Boz was a nice touch and my faith in the 'Good Ship Mozzer' (dented a little after Ally Pally) was restored.

A 5 hour drive from sun kissed Derby, through some of the worst motorway traffic in Britain, to rain soaked Pompey meant I made it with about 5 minutes to spare, which meant I nearly missed Kristeen Thing - and what a tragedy that would have been. Why oh why he got rid of Tiger Army is beyond me, as the lovely Kristeen was genuinely risible. I am sure she thinks she is the new PJ Harvey, but prettier (but sadly without the songs...or talent...or poise...or to be honest talent). She reminded me a bit of those Not the Nine O Clock News spoofs, where Pamela Stephenson would pretend to be Toyah or Kate Bush. Utter shite.
As for Moz, well if you can't guess the set list by now, you really haven't been paying attention. Still Ill is always very good, Trouble Loves Me was magnificent but, to be fair, even Moz started pulling faces and looking bored by the time he hit Girlfriend in a Coma. And far too much off the new album - we have all bought it, so why not get some of the new fans buying Vauxhall and Arsenal and Southpaw, and bang out Speedway or Spring Heeled like you used to do? I can say, hand on heart, when I hear Now My Heart is Full played live, I know it can bring a tear to a glass eye.
Highlights of the gig - numerous nautical references, Avast ye swabs etc. and Morrissey's sprint off stage when he flung his blue shirt into the crowd, which looked a bit like the run you do when you get out of the bath, after hearing the phone ring.
He himself jetted off in his big, black bus about 10.40 but a brave and indeed moist handful of us ('nuff respect to Katey and boyfriend and Jacqueline) did get to catch Jesse, Gary, Mike and Boz afore they left. As per, they were kindness itself, doling out autographs and Mike and Jesse were horrified that we had stood in the rain waiting for them, and apologised profusely, gentlemen that they are. Birthday boy Boz was full of good cheer, regaling us with Polecats anecdotes (Portsmouth? I'll have you know, I was playing here in 1980 thank you very much) and clutching a walking cane.

Great show from the Moz as always, seemed to be quite distant and bored at some stages during the gig! But not surprising really considering the tour schedule! Sounded tip top though - Life is a pigsty, you have killed me, in the future when all's well & Girlfriend in a coma were great!
I have a grievence though.... why is there always some drunk, skinhead, over - weight, 20 stone, balding man who has to make life painful for those around him. Me and my girlfriend were watching and admiring Moz onstage and some guy was leaning on her heaviliy and sticking his elbow in her ribs! When we asked him (kindly) to stop he started swearing, his girlfriend (i say girlfriend) resembled a chewed up and freshly spat out troll said "if you don't like the front of the gig, F*CK off to the back" - which I though was both witty & charming!! Not really!! All around us sided with me and my girl and they shut up! Anyway great show Mozalini!!

Morrissey isn't bored with the tour, he's more than likely bored with the fans.

I mean, it is unbelievable that there are still people going to shows on this tour that have the gaul to whine about the setlist.

What, is there a little hope that--even thought the setlist has been pretty much exactly the same for 30 freaking shows--this time he'll throw out the current list for a bunch of Smiths songs and solo songs from 1988?

It's true, that as the "dumbing down" of society has continued its brutal sweep across the global 35 and under age class, it has unfortunately swept into its web those who claim to be Morrissey fans.

I like the suggestions made by people to Morrissey that perhaps he could improve his career and improve record sales if he'd just simply take a fan's setlist request and do their suggested show. Really bright... Really bright...

In the future, if you feel compelled to get on this site and criticize a concert set-list, don't do it...simply go out to your garage and find a hammer and beat yourself senseless over your head.

I don't believe half of the people who have posted items here were at the gig last night!!

The atmosphere was great. The Smiths tracks went down a storm and so did the more 'obvious' Moz tracks - IBEH, FOTGTD - but the album tracks also sounded wonderful.

I loved the end of HSIN, which is not one of my favourite tracks but the band made it soar!

Moz looked beautiful - doesn't he look amazing in a dark shirt?? - and I can't see a look of boredom in his face at all...and I've witnessed a number of 'going through the motion' gigs over the years.

Great show - the man was on top form...'euf said!

Lovely small venue and Moz sang so well. Just before the encore he said 'that's what happens when you practise' and it was true that the band were so much better than the Quarry tour. The Smiths songs were at the right tempo not really slow like on the last tour. My brother got the set list at the end from a kind man on the stage on which Moz calls IBEH 'paddy' and LIAP 'piggy'!! So that is something you didn't know! Trouble Loves Me was fantastic as was Still Ill. Great night.

Moz had a fairly long chat with a tall bloke at the front.Couldn't hear what tall bloke was saying but Moz kept saying, 'She can't,she must be drunk'! Anyone know what was being said?

How long are the shows going on for?

I'm going to see Mozzer in Oxford on Thursday, and have to try to get back to Guildford, or London at the very least that same night.

Otherwise it's a hotel for me I guess.

Really good gig. Moz said "so we are at the mouth of the Port. Welcome to HMS Mozza(?) (I think). Then introduced each "crewmember" of the group. He thanked "all 12 of us who will buy the new single". He said "did anyone have anything groundbreaking to say?..no.."
