great show. no surprises in setlist. I was up front in the pit. naturally loved every minute of it. Shook his hand a few times (first time during disappointed which is one of my favorite songs), got a piece of his shirt and a copy of the setlist. the crowd was very lively from what i could tell.

Just got back from the show.

It was an interesting set up in regard to the seating. The theater had an open pit section. Initially, only Julia was down in this section. Then, slowly people just started asking security if they could go down. Eventually, the whole section was full.

He played the typical set. The band sounded great. The sound system was not always agreeing with Morrissey's voice, so he had to cut out sections of songs. Besides that, he sounded great.

I was able to steal a portion of his brown shirt.

I emailed David the setlist, but he didn't post it. Oh well, The War Room and I had fun with him texting the setlist to me every so often and me posting them to a thread on the general discussion board.

When was the last time Morrissey did Drive In before this tour? And who does this song originally, please give any and all information on it.

An interested tidbit... Moz stated that the Michigan show was the first to sell out. Is that in the entire US or just the midwest and east?

This was my first show, and it was just incredible! I saw Boz outside before the show but was so handcuffed by the fact that I was just passing Boz on the sidewalked that I didn't say anything. Got into our seats right before K Young went on stage. She wouldn't have been so bad if she wasn't so defensive. We didn't mistreat her at all or boo or anything but she kept bitching about the crowd for her entire set, which isn't terribly endearing.

And then the main event started. It was phenomenal! So notes:
-Moz came out dressed in a dark blue/gray shirt with tie and gray pants. The band was dressed in matching brown shirts with blue pants.
-The seating setup was kind of odd. Some people were allowed to go into the pit area, which Moz referenced when he said, "What the hell are you doing in this humongous hole? It's quite ridiculous really. But you wouldn't do it for Kris Kristofferson."
-The band was great, and Moz was in great voice, tho he did stop on occasion to say "Am I off key?"
-Several people got on stage, the earliest coming during the band intros. Someone tried to get on from the left side but was thrown off. Moz turned around and said, "And that will be a footnote in the papers tomorrow!" The earliest attempt was during YHKM to which he replied during the song, "Oh Jesus, excitement! It must be the end of the night," or something like that.
-Pigsty into HSIN? was certainly a highlight, as was Ganglord and the encores. Not to mention Plea to G, which was my Mom's favorite song of the night. (She wasn't much of a Moz fan, but she is now.)

I have to go to school but I've got a lot more notes. When I get to study hall I'll finish this.

Morrissey was brilliant as always (and the crowd was great)... but man, that was a TERRIBLE opening act!

Couldn't have asked for a better crowd, theater and , of course, performers.

Crowd skewed a little older in my opinion....40-ish versus the teeny bopper crowds described in other threads....that's just fine with me.

I've been to about 10 or so Moz shows over the years starting with the Kill Uncle tour and I have to say he seems to get more endearing with every show....seemes like he is really enjoying himself.

My only complaint (and I think I complained about the same thing on the last review I submitted) was that I had trouble hearing Boz's guitar...just a pain.

Yes, I Am Born isn't the best, but damn it is short....and Ganglord kicks ass...one of my new favorites.

Now get out there and record All You Need Is Me and release it....what a kick ass song. Definitely single material!

This was the best Moz show i've ever seen, as well as the longest! usually he plays about an hour, this was getting on for two. he seemed to be really relaxed and having fun. only problem was i was quite far back...i liked the movies they showed before he came on, the people around me didn't really know what to make of those and there seemed to be some who didn't know Smiths songs, but i hope they will check them out...

It was a pretty good show. Morrissey seemed to be in good spirits. He said that this show was the first one to sell out. Which makes me wonder why he only ever plays one show in Michigan. 2004 and 1992 he played Detroit,in 1997 he played Kalamazoo, and in 1992 he held the release party for 'Your Arsenal' in Grand Rapids and 10,000 people showed up, so he has the support here to play two shows.
The one bad thing about the show was some of the lame audience members. I sat in row Z on the right. The people behind me and in the few rows ahead of me never yelled, never sang, nor did they clap. That was very disappointing after having watched the crowd reaction to Morrissey at the Move festival on the "Who put the "M" in Manchester" video.

that i just remember as i was writing in my lj about the show,

after the "imperfect list" and before they start on TQID, Moz says to us "I don't know about you, but i'm ready for a good, clean, hard, wrestle"

and before he performed All You Need Is Me, he said to the audience "if you can bare a new song, or is it your time to go to the pee pee place"

at one point, someone apparently tried to give him something, and he told us, "i don't accept gifts from strangers" followed by someone in the crowd yelling "happy birthday moz"

towards the end, i can't remember if it was during the encore, or not, but he had just shaken hands with people in the front row when he turned around and said "a handshake isn't that bad of a thing is it."

We got to the show in time to check out opening act Kristeen Young. Besides being nice to look at in a ballerina outfit, her act wasn't that impressive. I wondered why Morrissey had her as an opener, until I found out she is on the same label. Go figure. Moz is the biggest act Attack Records has, so it's not surprising that one of their up and comers is a poor Kate Bush rip off. Her set would have been much more impressive if she had a band instead of a laptop. It was just her, a keyboard, and a drummer. Not sure if her guitarist died earlier on the tour or what, but taped performances are a crashing bore. She also lamented to the crowd that they weren't applauding enough, which made her even more of a bore.

There was a about a half hour break between sets, which is a little strange considering they only had to move one drum kit off the stage. But it was a chance to go pee and grab a beer. BTW, don't plan on getting drunk at a show at the Michigan Theater, unless you sneak your own shit in. They were selling cans of beer but they had a sign that said they would stop selling when Morrissey went on, and you had to be a member of the Michigan Theater Foundation. That costs $100. I rolled the dice and just got in line for a beer anyways and they never asked for my membership card. I had to stuff it down my pants though as they didn't allow you to take it to your seat. How lame can it get?

Just in case you didn't know Morrissey was gay by listening to his music... before he went on, he played old TV clips of dance shows from the 50's, some New York Dolls footage, and more bizarre comedy dance numbers. When the curtain dropped two humongous tapestries featuring the cool face of James Dean appeared behind the stage.

First song was The Smith's "The Queen Is Dead," which got the crowd pumped. He then set into a pattern of two or three new songs, followed by a classic Smiths or solo song. I'm a big fan of Moz's b-sides and lesser known songs, so the highlight for me was "I've Changed My Plea To Guilty." The only other b-side he performed was "Ganglord" from The Youngest Was The Most Loved EP. I was surprised how few of the songs the crowd knew. It appeared that most of the audience were Smiths fans. So it felt a little bit like seeing Poison a few years ago: a bunch of 30-40 year old trying to relive the 80's. I would have liked to have a heard a few more songs from earlier albums instead of all the new stuff, but it's hard to say which ones because he has so very many songs in his catalog. The one song that nobody seemed to know but me, was his cover of David Bowie's "Drive-In Saturday." I found it on Kazaa some years ago when he was on a tour with Bowie. It's one of his rarest tracks so I didn't expect him to play that.

As is usual if you've ever seen tape of a Morrissey/Smiths concert, fans jumped on stage to hug and shake hands with Moz. At this point in his career, he knows it's a harmless part of the show, so the bouncers weren't too mean to these fans and only one guy went flying off the stage after a big push for a bouncer. It was funny how Moz wiped his hand off on his pants everytime he touched the crowd. I was surprised that nobody threw roses at him during the encore. The last time I saw him, in '97 (also in A2), the stage was covered in flowers by the end. But perhaps that's a sign of the times, the romance is over, and Morrissey has settled into an easy marriage with fame. He is my favorite singer/songwriter of all time, so just the first song alone was worth the price of admission to me. But the choice of venue and rather lame Ann Arbor fanbase kept the show from being anything more than a trip down Memory Lane

Fantastic show, although its true the crowd was a little shitty. They barely kept up a cheer for the encore so im suprised he even came back out.

The highlights had to have been the smiths stuff but recent classics from the last two albums held their ground and people loved it. We also had a little viva hate in there. Mostly it was new stuff and smiths. The bowie cover was beyond cool.

Twas strange to see folks with their fingers all contorted in the rock on manner...its morrissey. Yes he rocks, but hes not a metal band.
