Before I get started, let me say, I know for a FACT that as much as Morrissey slags off this site, he reads it daily.
Otherwise going to the trouble of writing this letter would be pointless....Having said that.....
              --------------------------------------- ----------
              Morrissey

I want to preface this by saying that I have followed you unflinchingly since the onset of adolescence...lo these many years.

It's been 16 years since I first heard your voice on WXRT in Chicago..."Our Frank" was the song. Do you remember that one?
Your playing The Loop again, so I assume that you do.

The words, and the voice that delivered them, provided a supernatural catharsis. I'd never experienced anything so beautiful, or so pure. Real words, coming from a real person. You were the antidote to everything that was wrong with me, my life, and the world around me.

The next night, sweeping the kitchen..."How Soon Is Now"...I still rememeber dropping the broom. That SOUND...was I in outer space? Surely this noise didn't come from Earth. But when the first lyric line dropped, and I recognized it as coming from the saint I'd come into contact with the day before, I knew then that there was no way out.

I went out and bought everything you had ever put your name on...with the zeal of a born-again I couldn't stop your name from leaping from my unkissed lips...I had found God.

There was no internet then, so it was much harder to find things out; but consequently, much more rewarding. I remember the first picture I saw of you. I remember learning about The Smiths through the one or two people in this disgusting, forgotten corner of Indiana who also knew of your music. One girl had a shred of your shirt in her closet from the Aragon show, Fall 1991...the same one you're wearing on the sleeve of You're The One For Me, Fatty. I looked at it and touched it and could imagine those screams from the audience...that power...yes, that love...

I listened to your music constantly, incessantly, ceaselessly. It never bored me, no matter how many tapes I wore out, or CDs that became too scratched and spun to play. Strange to think that at that point, you had only been solo for five years. "Your Arsenal" was the first LP I was to get on the day of its actual release. I held it in my hands like the Holy Grail. That black and gold cassette sleeve...those songs..."Seasick"..."Successful"..."Tomorrow"...ev erything was just perfect. I didn't care anymore how lonely I was, how depressed, how much I hated my parents, how much I wanted to move out...I had you...your voice...that was all I needed.

I scooped up every interview I could find. Poured over your answers to the questions. Archived or current. They were as necessary to me as the songs. Your brain, your mind, your articulation was unprecedented. I hung on every word. I lived for every syllable.

In my actual life, outside of that bedroom-cell, little had changed from how it had been before I'd found you. I was still as lonely as I'd ever been, and moreso with each day. But now I had a friend. Someone who'd been there before me, and in fact in his own strange way was STILL there. Someone telling me it was OK to feel ill. And feel ill I did, but never because of you.

Inevitably, I grew up...that is to say, my body aged, and I entered legal adulthood. Eventually the awkwardness, the ugliness, subsided...on the outside, anyway. Inside I was still a wreck, but had somehow managed to get a girlfriend. Had a kid, even. My life was moving on and I was no longer confined to that bedroom and by all means I should have just MOVED ON. Your Arsenal had turned into Vauxhall and I and then Southpaw Grammar and then Maladjusted...your hair got grayer and your reviews got poorer but nothing, NOTHING could ruin you for me. In my eyes, and ears, you only got better. I sought out your b-sides like a drug addict looking to score...knowing that fix would make everything go away...and it always did.

Most of my friends either hated you or

To make matters more interesting he is actually sitting four seats away from me with some friends. Occasionally I look over to see if he is mouthing the words to any songs or enjoying himself at all but he basically sat there with his hand in a fist balled up under his chin studying the gig. This was all fine and dandy until during the Disco Dancer strobe lights ending a man of roughly 6'4" 300 pounds starts freaking out right behind Imperioli and his friends, swinging his fists violently and attempting to deck anyone within reach (seizure or drunken rage?). Several chairs and people went flying in this guys path and Imperioli and his friends along with Security had to restrain this person and until Security could remove him from the venue...all as Stretch Out and Wait was moving into the first chorus. Very Surreal.I wonder If Morrissey even saw what was going on?

Saturday's show was incredible. I only expect Sunday to be the most perfect show I've ever seen and I won't be told otherwise. Thanks for those who took videos and pictures of me on stage Tuesday night. Having those has made such a great deal to me, more than you know!

Morrissey was resplendent again - tonight in a full tuxedo - the band in dress white shirts - lovely.

I thought the energy level was down a bit from denim-Tuesday, but it was still a fantastic show - Morrissey was in fine voice, and the set list was obviously superb.

Playboys was great, and the Loop rocked as usual. Please, Please, Please was terrific, Crashing Bores outstanding, and everything else was as it should be, with the exception of Dear God, which was the weakest number tonight. All You Need is Me really is very good live.

His comments were hysterical. This was by far his best animal-rights moment that I've heard lately. He claimed that Canada "the country" was being overrun with baby seals - Toronto, Montreal, Ottowa - the baby seals had taken over - they were hanging from the trees and driving the buses, and something had to be done. So the gov't of Canada was putting spikes through their heads and smart women (Madonna, Ms. Beckham and Kate Moss) who loved their children were wearing the pelts of other being's children, to show how smart they were. I take this subject very seriously, and Morrissey really did strike a high note of surreal, disgusted irony. This may not be the most effective action, but it was sad, funny and heartfelt.

Elsewhere, he noted that he did not have "what is commonly referred to as a heart," but that he loved this band with "the last beating shreds." He also asked "is anyone bored yet? Well give it five minutes."

My very favorite moment has to be the lyric change in "First of the Gang" when he sang "You have never been in love/'til you've had me behind the reservoirs."

There was a very nice shirt fake-out, and the invaders were wonderful at the encore. They overwhelmed security, who were really too brutal.

I went with a friend who hadn't seen him since '91, and he was blown away.

As for this whole Kristeen Young brouhaha, I thought Girl in a Coma were not too bad, and a welcome change. The crowd seemed to like them, and they handled the hecklers with more humor and grace than KY. Kristeen Young burned out, poor thing. It was a long haul, and, as the woman next to me commented, you could see it coming. So it goes in Morrisseyland. Everyone is an adult, and everyone will move on. Good luck to her, and to Baby Jeff, who is really a very, very good drummer.
