My sixth time seeing Moz and I have to say I was quite disappointed with the set list, I thought the set list was too slow. Not enough crowd pullers in the way of getting the crowd going. Compared to Killarney last year or the national Stadium in Dublin all those years ago this was not a patch on them!!

That's an undeniably disappointing setlist for anyone whose head doesn't currently reside up Morrissey's arse. Four unreleased (and crap) songs, some bad solo choices ("Billy Budd"? "I Just Want to See the Boy Happy"?)... I'm seeing him in Dublin tomorrow, and at this rate the New York Dolls are going to be my headliner. He just doesn't give a monkey's anymore.

Who put up this set list? I was there and the wonderful 'Why don't you find out for yourself?' was played.

Nice choice of Smiths songs, could of done better with his solo stuff, however, a Buzzcocks cover?. Wow, sounds like good stuff.

It is somewhat disappointing that Morrissey didn't debut any of his new material seeing as 'Years of Refusal' is only a little over 2 months away. However, what is even more disappointing is that he continues to play the same songs over and over again.

"First of the Gang to Die" and "Irish Blood, English Heart" have been played on every tour since being debuted in 2002. Whether or not these were hits is not the point...Drop these and make way for something new. Perhaps instead of those two he could play something like "Best Friend On The Payroll" and "Sing Your Life". Same goes with some of the other solo and Smiths songs that have been overplayed.

A lot of the songs he plays are welcome...but some songs that are deserving of a performance he just doesn't give a chance because certain others always hog the set.

I've seen Moz "quite a few times" and that was one of the best setlists in my humble opinion. Think he played for over 2 hours which is a first for me. Everyone seemed to be having a good singalong and Cork is a fine city.

Dublin should be good.. don't know about Hyde Park but I'll be there now for certain. With my lil pick n shovel I'll be there

Although I enjoyed the set last night, it took me a while to get used to the crap sound. I'm not sure if it improved or if I just acclimatised to it. It seemed like there was a constant echo which can't be sorely due to the venue as I've seen some great gigs in the Marquee. I'm amazed that a big show like this can be allowed to proceed with a sound engineer that can't hear any different.

For the love of God, I'd be happy if he came to Japan even if the set list consisted of Papa Jack, Tony the Pony, Sorrow Will Come in the End and The Slum Mums.

Last nights gig was the dogs Bollox Morrissey on top form as per usual, Death of a disco dancer took me back to the day.. A Manchester anthem,
but you cannot please everyone it seems and it seems the man could have levitated and it still would have had cause for complain, no matter which way you look at it the moz is far better value than paying through the roof to see the likes of clapton & co...
Play list was spot on and yes he played some slow numbers but what the f**K do you expect a full on rave and with 6 smiths numbers and a Buzzcocks cover thrown in to boot is more than I expected.. Happy Days.

when he came on stage last night. He wore a very nice fitted sports jacket and trousers and looked damn good for a man his age. I have to admit the performance was a bit lacklurst and slow and it seemed at times that Morrissey was going through the motions but he was still brilliant.
The New York Dolls were also very, very good. The crowd were also a little lame.

Downfall and that was the sound, especially for the New York dolls sometimes just a wall of noice due to echoes and i'm not talking the pinkfloyd track.

When you are looking at Jesse Tobias and Solomon Walker on stage?
  It's ridiculous that those two guys are in Morrissey's band.
  Professional musicians...fine, but they don't belong in the band.

Can we give "I Just Wanna See the Boy Happy" a break?? Awful song. If you must play a single from ROTT, "You Have Killed Me" and "The Youngest Was the Most Loved" are far better.

Other than that, I dont see whats to complain to about. Pretty much what I'd have expected.... still hoping for "Speedway" or "Now My Heart is Full" to return.

I've never been to a Morrissey gig with such a flat, lifeless crowd. They were the disappointment. Some half-hearted chants, not a single attempt at a stage invasion.. For God's sake, if you're going to queue to get into the first three or four rows, how about some movement or energy?!

Usually a crowd has little bearing on a performance, but I think most people can agree that they are often what makes a good Morrissey great, and adds to the atmosphere.

This is a good setlist. I have a question, how come morrissey never plays Heaven Knows or This Charming Man, two of the better known Smiths songs after HWSIN?...I am guessing because the are kind of juvenile, but they are still two of my faves

There was torrential rain for most of the day as the odd puddle in the Marquee itself testified. By the time the queue had formed this had softened to drizzle which was lucky as entrance time was delayed. Those waiting could overhear the soundcheck for nearly halfhour until herded in. Despite the weather and whatever problems caused the late start, there was a pleasant easygoing vibe from the crowd and this bubbling enthusiasm continued right the way through. I don’t know that I’ve ever attended a Morrissey concert where there was such a full-hearted response for the support acts, which may not be so surprising for the Dolls but the audience was also quite amused and attentive to Noise is the Best Revenge. Morrissey’s nephew has been blessed with some of his uncle’s charisma and vocal ability and his ensemble earned murmurings of approval.

When the New York Dolls stormed the stage, it became evident that many supporters were present. David Johansen has one endearing smile and he roused the audience to singalongs at various points. He introduced both the drummer Delaney, and Sylvain as Irish. Towards the end of their stint the light fell on an open book on the stage in which were pictures of many-armed oriental figures. Best warm-up I’ve ever witnessed.

The introductory clips included Brigitte Bardot’s bubblegum song; Vince Taylor’s dance lesson; words, later music, from Sasha Distel; piece about the Morrissey character from the old (‘Untouchables’?) film; another dated clip, seen before, of a couple clumsily dancing and singing; a piece of an interview with, I’m pretty sure, Sheelagh Delaney; the younger Johansen in the bath, and the Dolls on stage in their prime; and the drum-roll before Morrissey finally appeared. The backdrop was of two mugshots, one tagged Santa Monica that looked as if they were taken no later than 1900. From the start there was also a smaller banner above this featuring another young local arrestee of yesteryear whose crime according to the caption was taking possession of some watches in the Savoy, now a gigging venue in Cork. This I know because a couple of snappy young chaps next to us were booked to entertain there soon, calling themselves ‘Dirty Fix’, and they were sooo impatient to see Morrissey.

Eventually there he was, in jeans and white shirt. He-art therapy! The band looked very fit, mainly clad in black. Their music was flawless whether oomph or tenderness was called for. Morrissey looked a bit strained at first, I felt, but he responded more and more to the voluble welcome after a couple of songs. He mentioned the popular Hotpress article; attending Dempsey’s gig; asked the ‘sophisticated’ Corkonians to guess the Buzzcocks’ cover (he had to oblige!) and said, next stop Kilmainham, amongst other things. After one of the new songs, possibly One Day Goodbye will be Farewell, he explained that it was from the forthcoming album, Years of Refusal which was due out next September but he added, not to hold your breath (as Axel Rose may have been wise to warn about Chinese Democracy!) Then suitably, he introduced Life is a Pigsty, with keyboard fade-out to the tune of Happy Birthday. I think that Why Don’t You Find Out For Yourself came after Billy Budd but I can say for sure that it was wonderful to hear live. As was Paris, Mama, Ask, Loop, Vicar, Skull…one cracker after another. The variety of pace, and wide sourcing for the setlist, gave us nothing to complain about. He changed shirt once and threw the second black one when exiting before the encore.

Years of acceptance faces Morrissey if he continues to that standard – long may it last!

p.s. I was told that a main story in the Evening Herald on Thursday was about Morrissey. Anyone see it?

Got me tickets today for the Hyde Park Show- £50 for the pair--bargain!
The setlist from Cork seems good- read the reviews- gosh what moaning and groaning- seems like it was a flat show- anyway nevermind coz Mozz is saving himself up for London- I'm sure it will be good craic- well Beck and the Wombats are playing as support- so it's going to be a fun day- get the beers in and smile...

Last night was my first time ever seeing Morrissey live. I was expecting quite the presence but I wasn't expecting to almost faint at the sight of those blue eyes and far-famed fringe. He has got the most amazing power, I swooned.

The gig was equally mesmerizing. I particularly enjoyed the pit I was in. It was surreal to see 30-40yr old strangers putting their arms around one another, not knowing each other. But I joined in and it was such an experience.

The set list was superb. I must say though that I too would have liked something a little better from ROTT, although Life Is a Pigsty was epic.

I would have thought that America Is Not The World would have been apt; "In America, The land of the free, they said, And of opportunity, In a just and a truthful way.
But where the president, is never black, female or gay, and until that day,
you've got nothing to say to me, to help me believe."
Although, that would be counting one's chickens before they hatched.

Just to reiterate. Form is temporary and class is permanent. Im still buzzing from last night. 4ever!

I thought the gig was great but the sound was poor. NYD sound was even worse - very difficult to hear.

Ask and Vicar in a Tutu were brill and things went a bit awry with HSIN.

To the strange little guys who thought it was funny to shout Johnny Marr to everything Moz said, it wasn't. I have seen Moz shut up completely when he gets pissed off at someone shouting out stupid stuff (Sheffield City Hall years ago when someone shouted "get yer tits out" was one). He looked to be getting pissed as the Marr shouts carried on. Johnny Marr was and still is great but move on people!

Only one shirt thrown ( a weird, rather short brown one). Came out in white fitted shirt and funny grey semi-sparkly jacket. Encore had him wearing a very nice grey linen top.

Soloman really went for it with the Double Bass on The Loop, Paris was brilliant, so was Pigsty (just read it is Moz's favourite song), Buzzcock's (he said one of Manchester's finest bands) cover was mega.

No mention of Ms Riley and only one surfer who got a handshake before he got his exit pass. Moat was biggest I have seen in a while - Moz had to have the big security guy (never remember his name) pass the Mic to the one guy who got to say something when asked how he felt being in Cork.

Worst bit - BMI Baby back to Manc with a two hour delay.

Does anyone know the make of those jeans that Moz was wearing?

Funniest moment was when Moz told the crowd he had seen Damien Dempsey the previous evening, to which there were quite a few boos, Moz was a tad taken aback by this and then asked "Is it because he's from....?" (Dempsey is from Dublin, citing the obvious Cork-Dublin rivalry)at which point a guy behind me roars "No its cos he's sh*t", oh how we laughed.

we both thought it was one of the best Moz gigs we've been to. I dont understand why people complain when he doesnt play the setlist they like. It was a good night, good gig, simple as that.
