I have heard it stated by pop psychologists and self-help gurus that a person is/acts arrogant to hide a low self-esteem. But, what if in fact the reverse were true: A person acts self-deprecating to keep her/his ego in check. So then, arrogance is not a mask that hides the weakness, but rather, is a strength that needs to be diluted.

Just a theory.

  • Yeah, I really think that is true! It sounds more likely- I have to admit that I am guilty of acting self-deprecating to make reduce my ego (because I really am too arrogant!).

I've been meaning to ask you for ages: I read American Psycho and saw that you have too. What did you think of it?
